Summary: Scary
Review: I saw this movie when I was realy little and in one word it was SCARY, maybe its because I didn't understand it but boy oh boy it freaked me out, if you have children that scare easily don't let them watch this movie.

Summary: Bubble-tastic
Review: I saw this on the cool TV1 as the weeks' featured "Groovy Movie." I wanted to see it because Mary Katherine Gallagher had performed a monologue from the film! It was pretty good and fun to watch, with a few laughs. Not meant to be funny, but JT's 70's hat was a cack, as was the sight of him running on the beach in an astronaut's suit. It was of course sad too, because he lived such an abnormal life. I was sooo frustrated though, cos the video I taped it on cut out just before the end, so I don't know what happened! Then I check out all the other reviews and they're raving about how great an ending it was! Unbelievable!

Summary: It is a tape when you saw all your other tapes
Review: I thought that this video was not bad, but not the best.... I saw this when I was sick, and made me think what it was like living all away from people, well it is about a boy who never had a breathing system and had to live in a bubble to live, it had a ok love story..... This is a ok tape for the price it is at

Summary: The importance of this early example.
Review: In this film that predates AIDS, there is an important insight that somehow never carried over into HIV and AIDS discourse. The teenager with the severely compromised immune system was not enclosed to protect us from him, but to protect him from us. Although this move did not portray an infectious agent but a genetic problem, it is an important reminder. In all the paranoid constructions associated with AIDS in America, we seem to have collectively forgotten the simple reality that people who are sick need care. A culture is judged by the way it treats its young, its old, and its sick. Our culture is more concerned with money than real morality, and the so-called religious right is anything but. This film should be revived, even if only for that one insight.

"These are the days of miracle and wonder
And don't cry baby don't cry
Don't cry" -Paul Simon, "The Boy in the Bubble"

Summary: Great story, low quality dvd but worth purchasing
Review: It is great to see this movie again after so many years. The story is still great.

The quality of the DVD is not great but for the low price and a great story it is worth the purchase.

The quality of the picture is very old, poor quality. It looks as if the master copy did not age very well. There is also a bad spot in the software and about 1 minute of the film is scrambled. The DVD package is a simple cardbord box and plastic insert.

A good economic purchase.

Summary: Rivetting, and sensitive performances!
Review: John Travlota gives a rivetting and sensitive performance as Tod Lubitch; a boy forced to live in a plastic insolation chamber due to a deficient, or lack of, immune system. Despite numerous challenges, frustrations and obstacles, Tod Lubitch never gives up and continues to reach for what seems unobtainable, he dazzles would-be taunters with his keen wit and charm, successfully wooes the ever popular girl of his dreams, and helps design a spacesuit to wear that will enable him to leave his "bubble". Without giving too much of the plot away its worth saying that this movie is a collector's item.

I believe that the person who wrote the review on November 23, 2004 misread the review by the person in Atlanta. The person not once states that Tod Lubitch has AIDS or HIV, but expresses concern over how society treats those who are sick; our elderly, young, poor etc. And how health care has quickly become a luxury rather than a privilege. Not one person in our rich Nation should go without adequate medical coverage.

Lastly, much can be learned from this movie by those who are open-minded and receptive to it. One of the most important messages it delivers is that with a little kindness, compassion, and acceptance one can overcome just about anything.

Remember, it much easier to judge and hate than it is to love and accept those who seem different.

Summary: Meledramatic Story would have benefit with more info on SCID
Review: Like Todd in this movie my son has severe combined immune defiency (SCID). Alot of people don't know what SCID means but they understand the term 'bubble boy.' I wanted to see this movie out of curiosity. I was curious what life with a SCID would have been like prior to the cure being discovered 25 years ago. Since my son was born, he has had a bone marrow transplant, and is doing quite well. The road has not been smooth, but we are hopeful for the future. Chances are my son will live a normal life just like every other kid.
This movie would have been more interesting if they would have focused more on the illness itself, along with its effects on Todd and the rest of his family. The love story was cute, but it took away from the seriousness of what exactly was reality for Todd. I suspect some of the story was exaggerated to make a more interesting story. Due to my own experiences I am totally familiar with the sterile world that Todd lived in, and I found it amazing that anyone could live in that kind of environment for a prolonged period. We were in that environment for 5 1/2 months, and it drove me crazy.
John Travolta did a pretty good job as Todd. The other acting was good though a little meledramatic, almost typical of a television movie. One good thing about the DVD was the price. At $7.99, you can't go wrong, and even if you don't like it, it doesn't break the bank.

Summary: Good movie, hard to find
Review: This is a really funny movie. I'd definitly rate it in my favorite 25 of all time. Don't get this movie because of it's plot, though, but it is a really good movie to see if you just want to laugh for 90 minutes.

Summary: Wonderful Movie!!!
Review: To start things off I will watch it over and over. John Travolta is a wonderful actor and portrayed the story of this boy wonderfully. It is very sad how he had to live so isolated in this plastic housing just so he could survive. It was kinda sad how the girl next door took him for granted but finally came to what I think love him. The only thing I didn't like was the ending. I wish they would have said whatever happened to him, or how he's doing or something. What became of him after he came out of the bubble. I think the ending isn't fair since it left me questioning. But like I said I will watch it over and over. : )
