Summary: You can not say a bad thing about this heart warming film.
Review: This film is one of the sweetest I have seen in a long time. Just hearing the song 10,000 miles makes me want to cry. It is a wonderful story of a father and daughter coming together after the death of her mother. Jeff Daniels was execellent as the father. The daughter then taking care of some baby geese and teaching them how to Fly Away Home. I can promise you that this is a film to watch.

Summary: This is a GREAT Family Movie, but...
Review: This is a wonderful movie, one I've seen several times on VHS. In fact, I was all set to buy it on DVD when I learned the aspect ratio was 1.33 to 1. In short, no widescreen. As a result, I won't spend the money. This is too expensive if the format has no appreciable visual difference from the VHS version. If a movie is filmed in widescreen, and the director is in any way good, then said director is setting up the shot so as to use the the full frame. Otherwise, why bother to film it in an aspect that isn't the TV standard of 1.33 to 1 in the first place? I've noticed this problem showing up with several DVDs recently, including the soon to be released collection of Kubrick's work. (Which I hear HE authorized and supervised, which REALLY mystifies me.) Anyway, it would seem logical to assume that if someone made the leap to DVD, more often than not they want the widescreen formatting, especially with the clarity of picture DVD offers. Talk about not utilizing a technology to its logical limits... But all the same, I recommend this movie if you haven't seen it. Great stuff.

Summary: Again and again...
Review: Beautifully filmed, heart warming story. I've happened upon it several times on cable, and each time I do I think I will go on to something else. Instead, I catch myself watching it... again! It's a breath of fresh air in a time when most movies focus on who has the most "fire-power".

Summary: This movie will make you want to fly! Awesome!
Review: Fly Away Home is a movie for the true aviator. Here a father teaches her daughter how to fly an ultra-light. Think about this film, the next time you step aboard a commercial airliner. The song sung by Mary Chapin Carpenter, 10,000 miles, my own true love, is set for take-off. The music certainly goes to the roar of those big jet engines on your way up to the endless sky and a journey of thousands of miles.

This movie gets 5stars all the way.

Summary: A Wonderful Movie for All Ages!
Review: Amy Alden is 14 years old, and has lost her mother to a car wreck, which is the beginning scene of this movie. Amy is sent to live with her strange and odd father, who left the Alden family when Amy was only five years old. She doesn't like it at first, but grows to like it when she discovers geese eggs in her backyard. She sets off to raise them, but she realizes then that they must be set free - just like her.

Summary: Delightful coming-of-age film for New Zealand's Anna Pacquin
Review: Carroll Ballard certainly knows how to make a heart-warming story come alive. He has got such naturalistic performances out of his actors, Jeff Daniels and Anna Pacquin in particular, that the whole thing is absolutely believable. You can see Anna grow up before your eyes. The photography and music are first rate too. Here in New Zealand the Zone 4 release is in widescreen which just adds to the pleasure.

Summary: Family Movie
Review: A great story of a 13 year old girl that is forced to deal with the loss of her mother and having to learn to live with a creative nature-loving father that she doesn't know. Anna Paquin's character's dynamic transition from a grieving child to a courageous teenager is simply amazing. The movie will hold you and suspense and produce goosebumps, with an occasional laugh. It is a great movie for the entire family.

Summary: Superb cast, smart writers make this a must-see
Review: This is one of the best movies I've seen in years. I think Jeff Daniels should have won an Oscar as best actor for his work here. Anna Paquin is equally wonderful here, and the supporting actors/actresses are great. I own this video and I've made sure all of my friends have seen the movie because to me it is a great example of what movies should do for us -- it is inspiring, funny, moving, all of those things, and just plain wonderful to watch. My favorite scene happens early in the movie, when Jeff Daniels' character takes out his glider and his daughter watches his flight from the front lawn. The music really makes this scene wonderful, too.
