Summary: 'Ordinary People' go 'Home for the Holidays'
Review: A beautifully photographed film with an incredible cast of wonderful actors ... and a very heavy-handed script about a supremely disfunctional family. The plot offers no real exposition or resolution, treating the audience as unwelcome guests who have gate-crashed a private family gathering; we interrupt a drama that has been unfolding for many years, witness the latest exchanges of unpleasantness and angst, and then are asked to leave prematurely. Too many characters are left unfully explored or developed. For example, does the mother not wonder why her oldest son knocks his father down?! What causes the youngest son to suddenly conquer his doubts concerning emotional commitment? Is there a reason for the father's nocturnal singing activities?The DVD offers an excellent anamorphic picture and remarkable sound. Worth a look just for the cast, but the main theme of a family in relationship crisis was more successfully explored in the dramatic "Ordinary People" and the comedic "Home for the Holidays" (which featured "Myth" bookshop owner Cynthia Stevenson in the role of Holly Hunter's younger sister).

Summary: Good actors trapped in a hopeless mish-mash
Review: Although this film contains some decent performances, it just drifts along aimlessly for an hour and an half, without ever giving a full explanation as to why any of the characters behave as they do. You want dysfunctionalism? This film has it! As another reviewer stated, it's pretty much a pointless affair, with the only redeeming quality being some fine acting. The plot, (what there is of it), has to do with family turmoil coming to a head over the course of a Thanksgiving holiday, but as the film creaks along to it's rather abupt end, none of the story lines are resolved, and you're left asking what happened to the rest of the movie.

Summary: a great soundtrack through and through
Review: David Bridie and Rufus Wainright on one CD? To fans of them it is a dream. This is where i first found them both (The music really grabbed me when i watched the flick). David Bride and John Phillips are from the Aussie band "Not Drowning, Waving" and this soundtrack sounds a bit like the NDW soundtrack to "Hammers". The addition of 2 great Rufus' traditional covers and Bing Crosby keep you in visual movie mode. This very mellow and introspective music, so if that's what you like, I recommend it highly! jeff@deco.net

Summary: pleasure to watch
Review: Excellent acting throughout the film. Plot line is dramatic and touching and drives the film at an excellent pace. The real reason to watch this is for the superb performances of, surprisingly, Noah Wyle and Michael Vartan (defintely a new talent to be watched very closely).

Summary: If you want a dysfunctional Thanksgiving Family movie
Review: go with Home for the Holidays instead. I caught Myth of Fingerprints on Lifetime and fell asleep before it ended. Why was I watching? Well, it's the whole car wreck thing. Kooky kid sister was annoying and trying way too hard. But the prize for annoyance is tied between Ms. TMI (too much information), the girlfriend of one of the brothers and the bug up her butt older sister. Ms. TMI likes to announce that she's having sex as often as possible, blah blah "let it all hang out" cakes. She's like one of my mom's cousins who makes me long for old school Irish Catholic repression of my grandparents generation.

Summary: Sorry about the above mistake
Review: Hi. I mistakenly attributed the great vocals on this album to Beniamo Gigli, he does, in fact provide nice vocals on the album, but I was referring to Rufus Wainright in my glowing praise. He is as wonderful on this album as he is awful on his own solo effort. BUY THIS INSTEAD!

Summary: Where's the rest of the movie?
Review: I actually went to Blockbuster (I hate the one in my area) to find this movie because I'd heard it was pretty good and Julianne Moore and Noah Wyle are two of my favorite actors. So I get home and I start watching it. The characters were unique and well written, but they seriously needed to work out their issues, especially Warren and his father. In the scene where his father is dancing with his girlfriend just cuts after Warren shoves his father to the ground (you'll see why he did it if you rent this movie)! I was hoping to see how everyone else reacted, because it seemed like an integral part of the scene and I expected Warren to start working out his daddy issues, but it doesn't seem to happen. And the movie ends with Warren leaving and not actually bringing it up! Now that may have been the point, but even if it is, there's still a major writing flaw. A major part of writing anything is to have some sort of conflict that changes the character. How has Warren changed? He's still disgruntled and terrified of his father. The only things that salvaged this movie were great performances and well written characters. The story as a whole tanked.

Summary: the myth of fingerprints
Review: i merely saw this movie because of michael vartan who by far is the most beautiful man alive. then, as i saw this movie, it moved me and made me realize that michael vartan is not only beautiful but also extremely talented. the polt was a bit dry but michael seemed to light up the screen every time he was in the scene. thankfully, michael vartan now has a television series and we can all see this amazing actor strut his stuff every sunday. alias at 8. watch it. you will love it! i gave this movie 4 stars, only becuase of super-talented michael vartan.
