Summary: Raw...Yes
Review: I agree with the spotlight review that calls this movie "Raw, Real, & Unflinching." That is a perfect description. Sure, it may be a different cinema style than we're used to, but it's a painful & haunting movie. Your heart will weep for the characters!!

Summary: Unbelievably BAD
Review: I cannot believe Halle Berry won an academy award for this crap. This was one of the worst films I have ever seen. It has no plot, terrible acting, no pacing. It just goes on and on, with meaningless scenes interupted only by meaningless sex. ... Billy Bob is practically sleepwalking through the whole film. Only Peter Boyle is mildly interesting. What a waste of time!

Summary: LOST RESPECT FOR HALLE IN THIS MOVIE.
Review: I first saw this movie on VHS and must say that i was VERY disappointed in Halle Berry not performance but how she degraded herself. I was a fan of Halle before this film (and still am) She is a gorgeous actress with a lot of talent. Starting with Swordfish i knew she was headed for disaster. Monster Ball's plot was very predictible and left too many holes which lead me to believe that the writer was either too lazy to answer the holes or didn't know how to approach doing so. I read that Angela Basset was offered the role first, but turned it down. I heard the movie was graphic and explicit, but i didn't expect it to be what i saw. Personally i thought Puffy Sean Combs and Heath Ledger should of got the oscar! They're performances were short, but it was well done. Billy Bob did a great job acting, but i sensed he was just being himself. Halle. What really killed her was the explicit "interracial porn" scene. And what the hell was the deal with showing her put the parrot in (or out) of the cage when it happened? Plus her shrieking made the scene even worse. It wouldn't have been that bad if they were under sheets at least. I think this has labeled her for the future years to come. Although i was amazed of how beautiful she looked without much makeup, and her acting was a bit overdone but good, I did lose respect for Halle. It wasn't the nudity thing either. I believe if you have a beautiful body and want ot show it why not? But when you degrade yourself by performing in a "porn" in front of millions of people just for an oscar is not acceptable. If the scene was with Heath Ledger instead of Billy Bob i think that the story would have been more interesting and the sex scene would not have been that bad because he is more around her age(and is cute). The Scariest thing out of all of this is that during the time she was Married to Eric Benet!!! I'm like dude how could you even let your wife perform in something like this? O well. I couldn't even begin to see Vanessa Williams or Angela Basset perform in something like this.

Summary: halle is awful and loose
Review: man this movie could have rocked but halle kinda ruined it for me .i mean she is a horrible actor and her false preformance combinded with her loose desision to get nude gave off a sour aroma to the whole film. she deserved the oscar but certainitly not for this movie. Do not buy this is all you want is to see halle because her preformance doesnt live up to anything. Absolutly awful.

Summary: Good Movie
Review: I especially liked a very attentive direction and screen writing that fully reveals personalities in small, seemingly unimportant events and circumstances. The story is very unsettling and perhaps that is why many a reviewer finds it difficult to accept this movie.

Summary: Monster's Ball-- A Good, but Forgettable Film.
Review: You know, I feel about Monster's Ball the same way I feel about L.A. Confidential and Traffic. These films are very good and very well-made--don't get me wrong--but they aren't the type that you go back to time and again. Monster's Ball was really good, yes, but who will really be talking about it in five years? While watching it, I often was wondering, "What has really happened?" The reason why this film is not one you would want to watch over and over is because it includes no emotional vigor and you also can't learn much from it after you've seen it once or twice. Once you've seen Monster's Ball, you've gotten what you can from it. The writing is good, sure, but unless you find yourself in a situation precisely like the one in the film [see 21 Grams], you cannot apply or link anything from the film to real life. This, if personal preference and emotion are not present either, renders a film useless to you, the consumer. That being said, the acting and casting are, of course, exceptional. This cast is full of big names [Halle Berry, Billy Bob Thornton, Heath Leger, etc.], but it doesn't crumble under all of those big names [see Gangs of New York]. Sorry to say, this is the type of film you enjoy in the theatre, make the mistake of buying three months later, watch it once, and then it is doomed to sit on your DVD shelf for the rest of time, collecting dust.

Summary: Leontyne Price is a better singer than Britney
Review: Leontyne Price is a better singer than Spears.

This is a hideous movie about racism. It includes a far-too graphic sex scene. Berry actually won an Oscar for this?

Summary: Leontyne Price is better than Britney Spears
Review: Leontyne Price is a far better singer than that pop tart Britney Spears. And how can you call Justin Timberlake's latest CD a classic? His voice is a bad falsetto.

It's a shame that Halle Berry had to take off her clothes in this movie. Do actresses now have to appear nude in their movies in order to win Oscars?

Summary: It finally dawned on me why Halle Berry got the Oscar!
Review: Anybody who could pretend to be, ahem, aroused by Billy Bob Thornton is definitely an Oscar-worthy actress.

Summary: Amazing. One year later...
Review: and there are people who still think Halle Berry is an Oscar-level actress. That's truly mind-boggling. I watched this twice again to make sure I missed nothing. Nope; still a performance way below par for someone with Billy Bob's talent, and vast overacting, doing the best she could with her very limited range, for Halle. Is it just me, or is anyone else completely sick of seeing Halle Berry in mediocre films, magazine covers, just anywhere? Apparently talent still means very little in Hollywood, which is a damn shame.
