Rating: Summary: A true American story Review: ...the overall effect of the film overcomes its faults. To be blunt, you need a heart of stone not to be touched by it. Bruce Willis can be a devastating actor when he wants to, and here, he clearly wants to. You would think there would be a surplus of films about war orphans, but this is one of the few. The fact that it is a young girl adds to the poignancy and multi-layered dimensions. Got lumped in with the other Vietnam films of the time like Platoon, Full Metal Jacket and Hamburger Hill, when in fact it has only a few wartime scenes, and is in fact more like the brilliant Coming Home.

Rating: Summary: worst movie about vietnam ever Review: A good attempt at post war but failed in many ways. the past faze shots are so fake its unbelieveable. ...the best post vietnam is 'born on the forth'. NOT this movie. Bruce Willis plays a Vet but the acting was overdone that it look fake. It works for DIEHARD, but not here. The part is beyond him as he tries to get all the attention, as well as screen shots. Emily Lloyd didnt get enough time thanks to the almighty bruce demand to be the center of attention. The ending is somewhat touching but the rest is boring and a waste of time. Save ur time and money by watching Born on the Forth.take care all

Rating: Summary: Welcome Home Review: A surprisingly good film. I expected the usual "Vietnam Vet is crazy, and nobody understands him" film, but this was actually quite a pleasant surprise. Remarkably well acted by Bruce Willis (a surprise there as well) In Country is about a girl searching for information about her father who died in Nam. Her veteran Uncle Emmit (Willis) is unwilling to help, but she continues searching, eventually talking to Emmit and his other veteran friends. Truly a well crafted film, not hokey or overdramatized, with good to great acting all around. Based on an equally excellent book of the same name.
Rating: Summary: Americana with a tragic background Review: After-effects and steps taken to heal the traumas of war. Great acting, writng and directing. Serious but not at all dreary.
Rating: Summary: Sufferable--stereotypes rule over a poor plot. Review: Horrible act of misplaced smugness, with a torturously slow plot that drags like a badly imitated Southern drawl. There is no denying Emily Lloyd's beauty, but scenes deserved to be re-cut where she totally forgets she is supposed to be outside Lexington, not London. All the great Southern stereotypes maul this film and we wonder what exactly each scene means to the big picture. Willis phones in an understated performance, but then when doesn't he? A brilliant collage the film is not, and you can feel a tension between Lloyd and Willis' performances that reads like an open battle of Hollywood ego. Why Springsteen's "I'm on Fire" plays during all of Lloyd's jogging scenes is a mystery; why not "Born to Run?" With tramps like this dud, we should have been born to do the same.
Rating: Summary: A true American story Review: I just finished reading the novel last month. Recently, I rented the video. From the looks of it, "In Country" isn't a very famous film about Vietnam such as "Born on the Fourth of July" or "Apocalypse Now". This movie was made around a time when Bruce Willis was spawning his big screen career. His character, Emmet, is silent yet eccentric. He's haunted by the war. I'm surprised to find out that Emily Lloyd is from the UK. She did a good job playing a 17 yr. old Kentucky girl. Most of the time when Hollywood turns a novel into a movie, they distort it greatly. However, this is probably one of the few films that stays true to the novel as it does to America.
Rating: Summary: A Simple Movie With a Powerful Message Review: In Country is one of my all-time favorite movies. The plot to the movie is simple enough--a teenage girl who's just graduated from high school is wanting to find out more about the Vietnam War and about her father who died in the war before she was born. The movie quickly becomes so much more. You find yourself truly caring about these characters and what they went through in Vietnam. Bruce Willis does an exceptional job playing the young girl's "mentally alienated" uncle. The movie is really about the importance of family and the bonds that last beyond the grave. The ending is so powerful that it leaves me in tears every time.
Rating: Summary: Bruce Willis gives the role of a lifetime Review: In Country was the most spectacular movie I have ever seen. Bruce Willis was wonderful(as always)as a disturbed Vietnam vet. All I can say is that how Willis didn't get an Oscar for his portrayal is beyond me. I loved this film and highly recommend it to everyone, especially for Bruce Willis fans(like me).
