Rating: Summary: Someone's Story Review: "The Champ" is the story of a child caught in a situation that, like a tidal wave, tosses him in places that are at times frightening and places that he does not neccesarily want to go. It has elements, in that respect, to "E. T." and "A. I.", but unlike those two films, this motion picture is not symbolic--it could really happen to someone. "The Champ" springs from the same well as "A Street Car Named Desire" and "Kramer vs. Kramer", it is the story of people and their passions--and how those ambitions lead them to and away from one another. To specifically review the DVD, I would strongly urge viwers NOT to overlook the commentary feature, as John Voight and Rick Schroder give great insights to an excellent film. Speaking of Schroder, while Henry Thomas and Haley Joel Osment were and are outstanding child performers, Schroder, because he did it so well and at a younger age, has my greatest admiration. Is five stars enough?
Rating: Summary: A great 'tearjerker'... Review: ... and one in which a child actor (Rick Schroeder) manages to upstage every adult actor in the film! Admittedly, everyone in the movie is a bit 'too' sincere/earnest/honest, a quality the media would like us to believe vanished forever with the 1970's (it doesn't sell products), but which is actually timeless and has gone nowhere. The issues this movie deals with are timeless as well (divorce, father/son relationships, etc.) and are still completely valid today. An excellent 'family' film (which means you, unless you were born in a test tube). Occasionally bordering on melodrama but never once crossing the line, this film is a great antidote to the soulless, empty pieces of corporate desperation being marketed as "movies" these days. Recommended!

Rating: Summary: Movie that kept the family without short of tears of joy Review: A day to day happening of a typical family, in between them left a kid to decide his torn love for the parents. The man who wants to prove a point to his ex-wife that he too could provide financial security to his son, but not short of sparing blood in his attempt.I saw this movie in 1982 for atleast 3 times and it is still fresh in my mind.

Rating: Summary: where's this DVD Review: I couldn't have been more than 7 when I saw this in the theater and I remember it like it was yesterday. I'll never forget the usher in the theater walking the aisles handing out tissues. Cannot even tell you what I would pay to have this on DVD to sit and watch w/ my mother like I did some 19 years ago.
Rating: Summary: a wonderfully entertaining movie Review: I cried a lot but I enjoyed it a lot too. I can't wait until it is available on video.
Rating: Summary: Tear jerker!!! Review: I have not seen this movie in about 5 years, but I remember watching years ago over and over and bawling each time.
Rating: Summary: I Haven't seen The Original But This Remake is Very Good! Review: I haven't seen the original movie that starred Wallace Beery and Jackie Cooper but I saw this remake starring Jon Voight and Rick Schroder and I thought it was a very good movie with great acting from Jon Voight and a young Rick Schroder (Billed as Ricky Scroder back then). It is a tearjerker filled with some sad moments but it's such a good movie and I recommend it.
