Summary: So sad
Review: I just watched this on VH1 the other day and, while I've seen it before, it just breaks my heart when I watch it. Selena was a true talent. Had she not been killed, she would most likely be one of the biggest female singers in the world today. At the time she was murdered she was just breaking into the English market and joining the ranks of Celine Dion and Mariah Carey. She and her family was robbed of many years of success and joy that was sure to come her way. The movie shows such a happy woman who deserved only the best life had to offer. Jennifer Lopez does an outstanding job bringing her back to life in this film. But that's no surprise since Lopez is one the best actresses of today. Lopez doesn't get the credit she deserves in my opinion. Her work on film is brilliant. She really lights up the screen.

Summary: I Thought I Was In Control, But I Lost It
Review: I thought I could watch this fine movie and maintain my emotional composure throughout, even knowing how it was destined to end -- but at a certain point, I just lost it and wept like there was no tomorrow. It probably hit you too, the moment when Chris said to Selena, "I've been thinking about what you said, that night by the dumpsters." Witnessing a romantic lead character verbally prostrate himself in that fashion, watching him hang his entire array of emotion to twist in the wind, simply blew me away.

The first half of his epiphany, "I've been thinking about what you said," was a bit trite, and that innocent phrase lulled the viewer into a sense of calm, with no suspicion as to what would follow. But then when Chris put the hammer down, when he delivered that stunning kick to the solar plexus of the psyche, when he erupted that volcano of a movie line -- "That night by the dumpsters" -- I gasped in shock, reeled with disorientation and literally wondered whether I could continue as a functional human being. This was genuine drama, folks, the Real Thing of Theater. "That night by the dumpsters" is the sort of movie script line that bursts, that explodes as a supernova might do, just once every 30 to 50 years or so onto the silver screen. (It is difficult for me to keep from weeping, just telling you about it.)

Please, please, when you watch this film, brace yourself, prepare yourself for that pivotal, magic, monstrous moment when Chris beggingly addresses J Lo, "I've been thinking about what you said, that night by the dumpsters." If you know it is coming, if you are warned about it, then you can fortify your emotions in advance, and not forfeit a great portion of your emotional soul in response to that utterance.

Rosebud. Here's looking at you, kid. To be, or not to be. That night by the dumpsters.

I just got it for Christmas today and watched it just before writing this. I love her songs, especially "Dreaming of You". I've loved that song since I saw the movie last year in Spanish class. This movie will be worth your money.

Summary: Viviras Selena!
Review: First, I was skeptical about Jennifer Lopez's big-screen debut as the slain Mexican-American singer Selena Quintanilla. The movie was heartfelt, realistic (Selena did come to life!) and I loved all the characters, especially Abraham Quintanilla (Edward James Olmos), Marcela (Constance Marie) and Chris (Jon Seda), who all contributed to bringing Selena's spirit and music to life. I also give huge props to the Young Selena (Rebecca Lee Meza). The film had me in tears at the end and the storyline was sentimental and sweet, not trashy. A very well-produced, great movie! I don't care if people though that because Jennifer Lopez was Puerto Rican, she shouldn't have been playing a person of Mexican lineage, but she did a wonderful job to bring Selena's music and spirit back to life! I like the fact that Selena's father Abraham was the executive producer of the movie so he could be positive to sustain the dignity and memory of Selena. Viviras Selena!
