Rating: Summary: One of Jennifer Lopez's best movies EVER! Review: Selena is one of my favorite movies, partly because of Jennifer Lopez being in it, and the fact that the story was very well told and had amazing performances by the cast. Jennifer did a really great job portraying the Tejano superstar and her performances on stage were phenomenal ( I'm not sure if that's how you spell it). I really got into this movie with the drama and the music. This is a really good movie to watch anytime. It doesn't matter if you're a fan of Selena, Jennifer, both, or neither. All audiences can enjoy it. It will always be one of my alltime favorites. I would definitely recommend seeing and buying this movie because it's very enjoyable and fun. If you're not a fan of Selena or Jennifer, you will probably have a different opinion after seeing this movie. Trust me, you're going to love this movie.
Rating: Summary: Lopez at her very best!!!!!!! Review: I actually didn't see this film until about 6 months ago when it was on tv late one Sunday night. After watching it i was very impressed and went out straightaway the nexy day and purchased a copy on dvd for myself. Jennifer does an outstanding job portraying Selena, so good in fact that whilst i'm watching it i actually forget it's JLO and think it's the real Selena! She perfected Selena's dance moves right down to a T. The Astrodome recreation is perfect and very close to the real thing. I like the film because every scene builds on from the previous one. Every stage of Selena'a life is documented including her most triumphunt moments such as when she won the Grammy, when "Como La Flor" went to number 1 etc. I highly recommend this film to any Selena fans out there- go out and buy yourself a copy right now, you won't be disappointed!!!
Rating: Summary: Touched For Life Review: This film and story will stay with me for the rest of my life, I decided to watch this since I knew the basic story of Selena, she was successful but her career and life was cut short due to being murdered, I had only heard I Could Fall In Love, so I decided to watch it when it came on tv, I found the story to be truly captivating, I cried alot at the end like I had become a fan of Selena by just watching that film, I have now heard alot more of her songs and plan to buy the albums, and her last concert, I may not have much knowledge of Selena but I can appreciate a truly amazing talent, this film will really stay with me forever, I can't explain exactly how I feel but knowing that the world lost such an beautiful talent saddens me alot, however I would still like to know more on her since I don't know much please tell me where I can or how I can find out moreabout Selena
Rating: Summary: Not Sex, Love, and Rock 'n' Roll - - Love, Hugs, and Tejano Review: Despite my dislike for Jennifer Lopez, her portrayal of the slain Tejano superstar, Selena, is a beautiful tribute to a woman who could have offered much more had she not been taken from us. As is typically true for biopics, the film is light on insight (sorry, kids, but you won't really discover any greater truths here) but is filled with tender emotion and a look into a glamorous life from not-so-glamorous roots. This film presents Selena as the pure-hearted talent that she was. Like Titanic, we all know how the movie ends, but what makes Selena stand out is the tender dialogue- both humorous and romantic. Granted, Lopez's acting in certain scenes creates a soap opera ambience, but the timeless quality of such actors as Edward James Olmos keeps the film in a natural perspective. The beauty of this movie is truly the final scene, a testiment of her fans' undulating love for her.
Rating: Summary: Selena Review: This was a very good movie. I never had heard of Selena until i saw this movie, Jennifer Lopez does a wonderful job, i hightly reommend this movie
Rating: Summary: Portrait of a superstar Review: Many know that Selena is my all-time favorite performer and this film is a beautiful (thought not thoroughly accurate) tribute of the slain Grammy-winning Tejano Queen. I don't usually enjoy Jennifer Lopez performances - acting OR vocal - but this being her first breakthrough role she does quite well; this 1997 film came out before her diva-esque image took over and she became a glitzy woman who won't tip bellhops after carrying up some 20-something bags.
Rating: Summary: the angel selena Review: this movie makes me sad! selana was a beautiful singer just becoming popular when i was in junior high then she was tragically killed and her star burned out as fast as it came the movie shows the hardwork of her life growing up traveling and singing with her family only to finally hit it big find love marriage and soon a baby but sadly she was killed by a lunatic obsessed fan jennifer lopezs best acting job by far is in this movie she becomes selena from her gorgeous smile to her funny infantile manner and beautiful voice this movie shows u who selena was an angel
Rating: Summary: amazing woman an amazing portrayal Review: I wasn't familar with the real Selena before this movie (I was a few months short of being 9 years old when she died) and my whole family is mainly white and all my parents listened to when I was growing up was country. But I saw this movie in 97 when it first came out and I loved this movie. I still love it now almost 18 but it does make me a little sad to think that she was just starting to rise up to the top and fufilling all her goals and then she was killed. I saw a taping of the real Selena in concert and it made me love this movie more when I saw how dead on they got to the outfits to the little hand moments when she was performing to just the whole presence. So dead on in fact, in a few scenes I doubt you could tell the difference between Jen and Selena. Being the first thing I had ever seen Jennifer Lopez in, it is still my favorite I think only she could pull it off I can't even imagine anyone coming close. I think if they didn't get Jen as Selena it wouldn't be convincing thus not being so popular. It's a great portrayal of a great artist and I recommend anyone watching it that hasn't. But if you have but don't own it, I recommend buying it.
Rating: Summary: Are you serious? Review: I just saw this movie for the first time on VH1. Lemme tell you, this has to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Don't get me wrong, No one, and lemme stress, NO ONE, could have done a better job than Jen Lopez playing the part of Selena. IT was dead-on perfect, she did at least earn the nomination of a Golden-globe. Right down to the moves and mannerisms of a typical "chicana" from south texas. Edward James Olmos, was out standing in the role of her father. Which, I believe, accurately portrayed him as he is: a controlling "stage-father" who tried to live vicariously through the lives of his children because of his own failed career. The story that I saw in the film seemed to be a very sanitized version of what and who Selina was through the eyes of what AB wanted us to think who she was. I mean really???? Who wrote this script? I can just imagine him laboring over the script and TELLING the director some sort of fabrication in order to pass out what he wanted the audience to believe about selena. Judging from the script, it was Selena's life according to AB. Jon Seda's part as Chris? Dead on typicall South Texas Tex-Mex adolescent who couldn't express his feelings to save his life. Aloof and dull. I should know, I grew up surrounded by them. Trying to act tough and never being able to articulate anything much deeper than what was in front of their plate. Don't stone me just yet, Selena's music and life are a true tragic fairy tale. Her influence on Latin music and Tejano music will definately be felt for decades to come. She was an unbelievably talented star whose life was cut much too short by a severely mentally ill person. We'll never know just how much of an impact she would have made, had she lived to see the Latin explosion that came in 97-2000. I'm mean, we ARE the majority minority now. I grew up in Corpus Christi TX and still see the impact that she made on the entire border states, latin and anglo cultures. I also think that this was a chance for AB to step on his soapbox and vent about how unfair he was treated as a Latino and how Hard it was being latino in South Texas. These are all relevant points to make, but make them when they're doing a movie on YOU AB, not when it's focused on your late-daugher. Her life is truly tragic, but I can't help but feel like AB's intent was only to cash in on his late daughters death. I mean, seriously, she'd only been dead 5 years when this movie came out? How many more "exitos" can you try to milk off her career man? That's very unorthodox and just plain sad. Let this poor woman's soul rest in peace. It is very sad to see such a talent ripped off the planet. Even sadder to see such a crappy film emphasize only what AB wanted everyone to believe. Do yourself a favor and rent this movie, don't buy it. If you think this movie was the best of the best, just ask yourself, "do I watch too much Telemundo?" And do you still write dedications to selena webboards with meassages that address her as if she's still alive? ex: We still love you!! What if she doesn't have DSL in heaven?
Rating: Summary: Selena!!! Review: This movie change my life! Is a great film and i no have words to say but... I Love Jennifer Lopez and she surprise me in this film!
