Summary: MUCH BETTER THAN I EXPECTED
Review: I WAS BORN IN SOUTHERN WEST VIRGINIA LESS THAN 100 MILES FROM WHERE THE STORY IS ABOUT AND IN THE SAME TIME PERIOD AND I STILL LIVE IN SOUTHERN WEST VIRGINIA. IT WAS LIKE GOING HOME AND WATCHING OUR OLD 8MM HOME MOVIES. WE SHOT ROCKETS UP AND PLAYED ON "SLATE DUMPS." THE ACTORS REALLY CAPTURED THE WEST VIRGINIA DIALECT. THEY ALSO MADE ME WANT TO GO TO MYRTLE BEACH AGAIN.

Summary: Incredible, inspiring - Hollywood are you listening?!
Review: I too like many other reviewers saw the dismal marketing for this movie and thought, sounds okay, but probably boring. I had one advantage in inspiration though - October Sky was filmed in the small town in Tennessee next to mine. I wanted to see if they had truly captured the beauty of our area. I was astonished. Not just at the beauty of East TN on film, but at the movie itself. It is an incredible achievement. I haven't felt that good, that uplifted after a movie since...I don't know when. Hollywood, have you read these reviews?! Do you notice a trend here? Is anyone out there listening?!

Summary: Inspirational, truly well-made film
Review: Everything about this film was exceptional. All four young men gave incredible performances, but especially noteworthy was the talented Jake Gyllenhaal as Homer Hickam. Even though he just about tore my heart out on more than one occasion, the film is not overly sentimental but a very real representation of what one must do in order to achieve one's dreams. Chris Cooper and Natalie Canerday as Homer's parents also did an outstanding job. The production values and period detail were truly excellent. I too cannot recommend this film highly enough. Do yourself a favor and watch it with a young person you care about.

Review: October Sky was an inspiration to me and my entire family. Its a great movie that demonstrates the value of hard work, friendship, family, and teamwork. This is a must see for anyone who ever dreamed they could be more than they are.

Review: I admit it!! My eyes welled up with tears the first time I saw it. Even though the Dad has his faults, the end of the movie just goes to show you the power of having a loving father and mother in the home. No other success can compensate for failure in the home!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review: Better than Titanic, Star Wars, West Side Story, I can't think of one better. I saw it in the theatre, watched the video, I like it more each time and want to see it again. If a movie like this can make a 52 year old combat wounded VietNam veteran cry, it has got to be good! Do yourself a favor, be nice to yourself, if you only watch one movie a year or in ten years, watch this one! Everyone else has told you what it is about, but there is the part of the movie that defies explaination that you will understand once you see it! Double my rating on this one - 10 STARS ! Best movie, best acting, best directing, best sound, best bet!

Summary: Surely deserved better marketing when released.
Review: Hopefully someone from the studio reads these things because after seeing this film i wonder who the marketing genius was who failed to adequately promote such a wonderful movie. If there ever was a film that today's kids need to see, this is the one. In the year of the return of mindless slasher films this movie shows that a good story can make a great movie. Kudos to all the actors and the director. One movie that should not be missed by anyone, especially those who long for a simpler time in this fast paced, computer driven world.
