Summary: Absolutely Beautiful!
Review: This movie is SUPERB! The casting is PERFECT! The story is not only true, but as inspiring and fun to watch as anything I've seen. I saw it three times in the theatre and now have it on DVD. The kid that played Homer is a spectacular actor--every subtlety, every emotion--he WAS Homer. To the director, writer, cinematographer, cast and producer, my hat is off and I stand in reverence to the beauty you've created.

Review: "October Sky" is one of the great films of the 1990's. Cinematography is excellent, acting is excellent, direction is excellend and the only criticism one can have is that the fime has an ending.The film is suitable for the entire family and is very entertaining.

Summary: the best family movie of the 90's
Review: There isn't a better family movie than October Sky. It was enjoyed by all three of my sons who range fron 10-18. My sons have asked to read the book. What better recommendation is there than that. The movie captures the Sputnik moment and helps kids of the 90's to understand their parents' generation better. But even more importantly, it lets kids understand that anyone can make a success of himself if he is focused and will try hard. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie the first, second, and third time I saw it, and so did my kids. The characers are terrific. The four heroes, the Rocket Boys, led by Homer Hickham spend weeks developing their rockets, scrounging material, and testing their science by trial and error. The movie provides some subplot relief with typical teenage problems including girls, parents, and being made fun of at school, but the movie, like the Rocket Boys, stays focused on the main event, launching a successful rocket and competing in the national science fair. Even though you feel you know the ending before the movie finishes, it keeps your attention because the characters are human and you can identify with them. If you are looking for a movie for you and your kids or parents to enjoy together, this is it. It may be one of the 10 best family movies of all time not just 90's.

Review: The story line is interesting and suspenseful. The video quality is excellent. Lots of dark scenes come through nicly. The Dolby Digital soundtrack is great, really envelopes you in the movie. I rented this one, so I didn't have a chance to review the extras. Anyway, a disc worth owning.

Review: October Sky is based on a true story about a boy and his friends who are inspired by Sputnik and Von Braun. They are determined to make a spaceship of their own go into space. The only problem is that they live in a coalmining town and Homer Hickam's father is the head of it. Homer begs his dad to let him launch rockets on company property, but his dad won't let him. The rocket boys have to walk miles to get off company property and launch their rockets.

Review: Based on a true story about a group of boys who grow up in coal mining town with no real hope of a better future, then the Russians launch the first satilite into earths orbit and the space race is on! Inspired by the glowing dot flying over head the boys decide to build a rocket of their own. This was a wonderfully excellent movie. I was motovated and touched by the achievements and distresses of the heros. This is a story that reminds me why America is the greatest nation in the world!

Review: The laugh-a-little; cry-a-little; feel-pretty-good-about-everything movie of the year. This movie proves that big budgets, bloodshed and general destruction aren't required to make movies worth watching. Are you paying attention Hollywood? Judging by what is being charged for VHS, I think you are.

Review: I have viewed this movie with more than 250 of my high school physics students. Each of them has rated this movie as one of the best they have ever seen. Our first viewing was when it was first released in the theaters. 190 students gave it an honest and sincere standing ovation. I just hope the creators of this film know how much the viewing public appreciates such great work. From casting to every minute detail. If movie awards were given by people who watch movies, this film would surely win picture of the decade.
