Summary: Truly Graceful
Review: Delightful rendering of adult romance in this entertaining but slightly overlong drama about an injured child, her harried and concerned mother, a damaged horse, and the man who becomes their saviour.When young Grace and her beloved horse Pilgrim are severely maimed in a tragic horseriding accident, it appears that they are both psychologically damaged beyond repair. Against all the odds, Grace survives this accident. Going against all veterinary advice, Pilgrim is not euthanased. The frantic attempts of Grace's mother Annie to heal Pilgrim, and by extension to heal Grace and their somewhat disjointed relationship, draws the 3 of them into the orbit of Tom Booker, a gentle rancher who possesses a unique and powerful gift with both animals and people. Set amidst the spectacular scenery of the Rocky Mountains, "The Horse Whisperer" is a splendid tale which extols the wonderful healing powers of love - whether it be the love of a man and a woman, the love of a mother and daughter, or the love between a girl and her horse.

Summary: romantic study in contrasts
Review: The USA is really two countries which co-exist in almost the same space. There is the country of educated elites (I hate the term, but can't think of a better one) who run the media and the universities and the government and have lost touch with the traditional culture and its values. This country is concentrated on the coasts. The other country is made up of the people who grow the food and build things and do most of the actual work. This nation exists mainly in the heartland. Neither group has much use for the other and don't communicate much except when a member of the elite has to pretend to be of the heartland to get elected. The scene that brought this home to me was the one where the editor from New York and her daughter sit down to dinner with the family in Montana. The family says grace, something which clearly startles the New Yorker as she scrambles to adapt to something that is alien to her but is as natural as breathing to her hosts. However powerful the romantic attraction that develops in the film, the cultural differences would be too much even without the inevitable personal baggage of their past relationships and present obligations. Spendid acting. Visually beautiful.

Review: Why did the price on the Horse Whisperer DVD go up recently? It's a great movie and I was set to buy it, but then you raised your price. At this price - plus shipping and handling - I might as well just buy it at the store. When you run a sale on this movie please let me know. Thank you.

Review: Thought this was a well-written, extremely well directed movie - and would watch it twice just to see the sizzling dance scene again. Must go now and take a cold shower.

Summary: Great movie!
Review: Although this movie is 3 hours long, it is very entertaining. Kristin Scott Thomas is great as Annie MacLean, an uptight, big city (New York City) woman and the mother of Grace, played by Scarlett Johannson. Robert Redford also gives a good performance as "horse whisperer" Tom Booker, even though his sex-symbol days are long behind him. (This is a MUCH better movie than 'A River Runs Through It', which Redford also directed.) Dianne Wiest gives a dim performance as a frumpy rancher's wife. The shining stars of this movie are definitely Kristin Scott Thomas and Scarlett Johannson. Very worthwhile.

Review: I had no desire to see this movie after seeing "A River Runs Through It" (which Redford also directed...terrible movie). However, I borrowed it from a friend and was pleasantly surprised. It's a great movie from start to finish...and I was glad to see that there were no extra-marital sex scenes between Thomas and Redford (as one might presume after reading the description on the box). Worth every penny and every minute.

Summary: A long trip to find healing.
Review: There are times in life when you go looking for a solution and come back with more complicated answers than you started with. No one can say why our lives can be perfect one minute and thrown into tragedy the next. Perhaps "The Horse Whisperer" can give some clues as to why we may in fact need to go through the most difficult time in our lives to find out what we truly want. This epic was adapted from one of the most acclaimed novels of our time. In this story, a horse named Pilgrim leads Annie and her daughter Grace into a new world to discover who they are and what they can overcome. Grace has an extremely traumatic accident which leaves her both emotionally and physically scarred. A perfect snowy winter scene turns into a nightmare as two horses and their young riders careen down a steep slope and collide with a truck on an icy road. Unlike her friend, Grace has miraculously survived and seems to recover physically, yet both she and Pilgrim have deep emotional scars. Grace becomes cynical and her mother tries desperately to snatch her daughter from the morass of self pity which is consuming her. Annie (Grace's mother, played by Kristin Scott Thomas) seeks out a rugged rancher (played by Robert Redford) to assist in Pilgrim's recovery. In the process Annie finds out what her own heart needs to learn. Her final decision will affect everyone she loves. To watch this movie requires patience at the beginning as the plot moves slowly, but the ending is not what you expect and is worth the wait. The scenery and the intensity of the chemistry between Robert Redford and Kirstin Scott Thomas puts this right up there with "Out of Africa." If you love horses, the country life and want to escape for a few hours, this just might be the movie you are looking for.

Summary: A Spirtual Look Into Hope and Sadness
Review: I LOVED this movie. I must say that it is the best movie I have ever seen in my life. I decided to watch it because I love horses and romantic movies, and when I saw it, I was hooked. In fact, I ended up buying the book, the soundtrack, and the video! Now I watch it all of the time. It was a very sad movie, but the fact that Grace and Pilgrim overcame their fears and their terrible tragedy was so touching I cried. I also enjoyed the mystery and intrigue of the affair between Annie and Tom Booker. In the end, Annie goes back home to her husband and child, but is she really leaving Tom? The actors were superb and the horse did an amazing job also! I thought that this was a spiritual and touching movie that everyone should enjoy with their families and friends!
