Rating: Summary: It was a terrific movie but sad at some of parts. Review: It was one of my favorate movies I have seen in my life. It also had outstanding sceenery.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful love story Review: I believe that Mr. Redford was correct in having the woman leave at the end. It was a love story like Bridges of Madison County. Divorce is so easy today, She would not and could not stay because of the love she had with her daughter, and her daughter loved her father to much. I really enjoyed the interaction with the horse by the male chacter(Mr. Redford)I would have enjoyed more. I felt the"Down on the farm" sequence was essential to the movie, it showed how the mother and daughter learned how to comunicate with each other. I have purchased two of the movies (one for me and one for my daughter as a gift.) I think Hollywood should do more family movies like these. Thank you, Mr. Redford for your insight.
Rating: Summary: Relaxing, warm romantic experience, uplifting and inspiring. Review: I happened to watch this movie on a "snow day" when I was "iced-in" and ended up watching it 4 times! Redford shows himself as a class act once again in this relaxed, 'take your time' dramatic slash romantic film contrasting the fast big city life of a magazine editor (Kristen Scott Thomas)with the relaxed atmosphere on the Montana ranch of the "Horse Whisperer" (Robert Redford) whose therapeutic skills are sought out for a horse badly traumatized in an accident involving the editor's daughter. The "down home" atmosphere of the rancher's family and the unselfish, very caring approach of Redford's character provides treatment not only for the ailing horse but also for the daughter (not to mention the members of the viewing audience!!). I found this movie extremely refreshing with much room for personal reflection. A must for any truly passionate film aficianado.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I love this movie! It is sooo touching. It is a heart warming tale of a girl (Grace) and her horse (Pilgrim) it is really sad. I hate when Gulliver and his rider die, it made me bawl out tears because I love horses soooooooooooooooooooo much . I would defenitly give it a 2 thumbs up.
Rating: Summary: Pure cinematic perfection. Poetry on film. Review: The other reviews have covered most of the virtues of this film and need not be repeated. This movie is about as good as it gets. It is much more than a "horse story", a fact that seems to have eluded the reviewer from PA (12/14/98). Mr. Redford was for years seen as nothing more than a pretty face. However, the films that he turns out suggest he is something much more. He is an artist and his movies are indeed works of art. The reviewers here are unanimous in the view that this film is pure excellence. All except the reviewer from Nicaragua, that is. Were that person here, she/he would be able to vote. Talk about scary.
Rating: Summary: The psychology of the traumatized horse is captured exactly. Review: I am Lynn Marie Harvey, one of the author contributors of "Our Best Friends: Wagging Tales to Warm the Heart." Besides breeding dogs for over 50 years, my family has always kept horses. I am a member of the American Horse Shows Association & what is known as "an A circuit show rider." Horses are often romantically portrayed on films, such as in "The Black Stallion." In reality horses that are traumatized due to ignorant handling, abuse or accidents most often have to be put down. They must be put down because their behavior, just like Pilgrims's behavior, poses a danger to humans. "The Horse Whisperer" offers hope to horse owners that their beloved companions could possibly be rehabilitated if an accident were to happen, such as a traffic accident in which a horse trailer overturns. "The Horse Whiperer" realistically presents the horse. He is an easily frightened herd animal who must be reassured by his owner, not mastered by brute force. The relationship between human and horse is one of trust and nothing else.
Rating: Summary: Very disappointing - Monty Roberts is the real one! Review: Robert Redford was oustanding, as usual. The "hype" and anticipation surrounding this movie was the best part! I have read Monty Roberts' book, and am very impressed with his methods. I was looking forward to seeing some of these methods used with horses in the movie. It's too bad that this movie was titled "Horse Whisperer". It should have never tried to take that title from the real thing - Monty Roberts. I think the horse characters might have had 15 minutes in the whole movie. The rest was just another love story with a very sad, injured little girl as a twist.
Rating: Summary: Henrik Riis (hriis@hotmail.com) age 28 Review: I have to give enormous credit to Robert Redford for this outstanding movie! Normally I wouldn't try out acting as a film critic but when it comes to The Horse Whisperer I feel that I have to. I saw the movie three times in the Theater and it got even better the second and third time. This is my first movie ever to be seen three times in the Theater! The Horse Whisperer is a deeply moving film that compares to nothing else that I have seen come out of Hollywood. It doesn't make use of any high tech special effects that we have gotten so used to ( in order to tickle our toes ) - it doesn't need to! This movie is so simple, pure and decent as were it of a different time - a time long forgotten where ideals stood high and no one would attempt to make a movie unless you really had a good story to tell - the Horse Whisperer does. Especially the love scenes in the movie are unique - everything is not painted out like in so many other movies nowadays - no, it leaves something for your fantasy, which makes the scenes so much stronger. I really cannot recommend this movie enough - anyway if however one should be disappointed it must be because one is lacking the true fundamental feelings that arises within the heart - love, pain, sorrow etc. Robert Redford has dared going up against the trendy filmmakers in Hollywood who only manages to touch our heart - feelings - in a very superficial way. Ones you leave the Theater the movie you just saw is no longer with you. The Horse Whisperer is not like that it will haunt you - that is of course in a positive way! I will make sure to get this film on DVD as soon as it comes out in Denmark.
Rating: Summary: Scarlett Johansson is amazing Review: Scarlett Johansson, (who played "Gracie"), is a startlingly excelent actress with unlimited potential, and she is definatly Oscar-Award material, if not academy awards. She is the most underrated actress in the world, but she is simply amazing.
Rating: Summary: Makes me want to move to Montana... Review: I would compare this story to Bridges of Madison County. A little slow but nice story line, about a stressed out lady from NY going to Montana. She learns to slow down and enjoy the beauty around her and she stays faithful to her family. She listened to her head instead of her heart.
