Rating: Summary: Excellent human-relations story Review: This is a wonderful movie for adolescents. As a high school English teacher, my colleague and I develped an entire literature unit around "Horse Whisperer." From the moment of the horrifying accident scene, the kids are hooked on this film and willingly discuss a myriad of issues relating to it. Plot, characterization, conflict, setting, theme, irony, etc. all lend themselves well to "The Horse Whisperer," not to mention the personal issues of career vs. parenting, grief, healing marital fidelity, and so forth. My students love this movie!
Rating: Summary: No even half as good as reading the book ! Review: Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie but I have to say if you've read the book, the movie doesn't do justice. For a 2 hour and 45 minute movie, I feel it could have been more like the book. They focused on too many other details rather than showing more of the two falling in love. The movie almost made Annie seem indecent, where in the book it goes into greater detail of her feelings and you want what she wants. I was dissappointed after viewing the entire movie. When it reached the end I felt I wasted those three hours. My suggestion... BUY THE BOOK !
Rating: Summary: Robert Redford was outstanding in this movie. Review: I think the Horse Whisperer was a five-star movie. It was such a delightful but romantic, warmhearted movie. I will watch it again and again. Also, I think Robert Redford is just as sexy as every.
Rating: Summary: A down to earth, feast for the soul thru sight & sound. Review: This beautiful film takes one away from the gloss of the city & back to simpler times. It touches everyone who is an animal lover & anyone who wants a bit of magic in their life. There are people like this who are capable of healing. Anyone who has ever been to Montana knows the beauty of the place & the people depicted . I was also thrilled to see the dance hall in the film. It still stands today where we used to go on vacation & played out of the rain. Our cousins were very much as the working family in this film. The place was called Springhill .I love it !! I think you will love it too!
Rating: Summary: reeking of Hollywood sham Review: The old Little House on the Praire view of the west, with Redford shot through six inches of cheesecloth and nothing but handsome, straight-talking honest folk in sight - no racists, or world wrestling federation fans in 4X4s, or gun nuts. This idealized version of Montana is contrasted with the city, with its neurotic vegetarians. (The movie, incidentally, is a paean to the beef industry.) Anyone who really lives in the country (I don't mean on a sprawling ranch like Rob Redford) will recognize the Hollywood sham straight off, but people must have their myths I suppose... unbearable.
Rating: Summary: More a 3.5 star effort Review: I'd say this is the most visually gorgeous movie I've seen in a long time. The scenes between Redford and the horse are SO lyrical and lovely that you could throw out the movie and just leave in those shots! Beautiful, beautiful cinematography. I really loved the daughter in this movie, which reminded me somewhat of the daughter in Stepmom. The actress who plays her, though, does a STUNNING job giving her a bitterness that most adolescent actresses miss when playing these sort of parts. In fact, her character's relationships with her mother and Redford was so compelling that it quickly overshadows the romance between Redford and Thomas, which honestly has little chemistry. However, as much as I loved her character, I HATED Redford's acting as the Horse Whisperer. He plays the Mystical Healer with as much cliche and vanity as she plays the daughter with anger and pain. Kristin Scott Thomas's acting style is understated and subtle; yet, to Redford's wooden smiles, she's by contrast a spasm of passion. I still highly recommend the film. If you swoon to Redford, this will probably work for you. Otherwise, you may find Redford's self-aggrandizement to be a crutch to this film.
Rating: Summary: A masterful acheivement for Robert Redford! Review: I wish it were possible to tell Robert Redford personally how much I was touched by this film. Every detail from the casting (especially Kristin Scott Thomas) to the original score was perfectly done. Anyone who has a love for the western lifestyle and breathtaking scenery of the American West will want to watch this film again and again.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Family Video!! Review: I have read the book 2 times and watched the movie 4 times. It is one of my favorite movies of all times. It has such a powerful message of helping those less fortunate than others. It is a message of making someones dream come true, where as they thought the dream had been shattered forever. I REALLY ENJOYED THE MOVIE! I think Redford did a terrific job & that he needs to do more like this!
Rating: Summary: At last a video worth while looking at! Excellent! Review: Captivating; modern yet timeless; beautiful scenes of the landscapes in Monatana - therapy to the soul; truthful acting; romantic yet lots for the imagination to complete ( no explicit sex scenes - good values are portrayed); respect for aninmals and human beings - it describes a mature attitude towards people - respecting them to grow in their own time without forcing anything on any one.It also speaks of the much needed patience for others which lacks in this materialistic and hectic modern day society. Overall an excellent film worth buying and watching again and again!
