Review: This film quite simply is in my opinion the best ever made. Shindler's List can come close, but that dealt with an issue from the past. This film touches you just as much, if not more, and it deals with the very real, present-day issue of racism. Edward Norton's performance was much better than his in Primal Fear, but I consider that performance to also be one of the best ever by any actor. This film is undoubtably a must see for all. So quit reading these reviews, and just go see it, NOW!

Review: this was a really really great movie. i bought it but wasn't sure if it would be good because of all the negative media attention it got, but when i saw it i was blown away. this movie should have got more recognition, and edward norton was brilliant, and should have won an oscar. he was better than all the other actors combined

Summary: Real life view of how racism can destroy a family
Review: This is a great film that does not glorify racism but shows it in a true to life format. Edward Norton gives a very believeable oscar nominated performance as Derek, a white supremist that learns to see people as who they are, not what they are. The film changes between color and black & white formats to distinguish between past & present, which makes it easy to follow. Definitly a film that will spark thought and conversation in all of those who view it.

On the contrary, this movie is an exploitation of a very serious issue confronting America. Hate does not need to be commercialized and thrown in the faces of the sheep-like youth of the USA. Review: Not the greatest movie, but you will be hard pressed to find a better acting performance than that given by Edward Norton. When I watched the Oscars, I was thrilled to see Roberto Benigni win the Best Actor Oscar, but having since seen Norton's performance for the first time, I can honestly say that he was robbed at the Oscars for the second time in as many nominations. See this film, if for nothing more, because it contains a truly great performance by a truly great artist.

Summary: By far one of the most powerful movies of 1998
Review: This movie was by far one of the top ten for 1998. It left you feeling a little sick to your stomach but left you a good after taste. It was very powerful in the message that it sends out to the children and parents alike of the white youth of american. Very few movies porty white youths in the manner. It is good to see someone take a look at the white youth inside of always focusing on the bad things of the minorty.

Summary: A Brilliant film!!
Review: Yesterday, I went to the local video shop and took out the film AHX without having any idea what it was about. I was totally unprepared for what I was to receive. It's been a long time that a film has moved me to experience more than one emotion at the same time. Anger, because of the violent killing of one of the black burglars. Sadness, because of the moving moment when Dr.Sweeney asks Derek Vinyard if he had done anything to improve his life. Humour, because of the grudging reluctance on Derek's part to see the irrepressible Lamont as a human being. I thought the performance given by Edward Norton was one that will never leave my mind and the film falls into the category of impact films such as Taxi-Driver, Made in Britain, Do the Right Thing, Jungle Fever and of course, Malcom X. But there were few things that I wasn'nt happy with. It bothered me that there was no rebuttal against Derek's powerful and challenging speech. Here was an angry intelligent man articulating a lot of stuff but there was nobody, say, of Malcolm X calibre, to offset some of the things he was saying. Especially at the dinner scene, Derek says so much but Murray (Elliot Gould)appears speechless, which makes him look inept and weak. I desperately wanted him to say or do something. Even if it meant the scene ending with a physical fight between the two, at least it would give some satisfaction that Murray stood up to him. The other thing that got on my nerves was the depiction of the black gangs. At the beginning of the film, we are introduced to two black youth committing an act of crime, later on in the film we see one the of the youth elbowing Derek in the face, in a game. And then later, Derek indirectly gets his own back by brutally killing the same youth in the most barbaric way possible. My point is that what comes across is that the contempt black males have for the law and for whites seems manipulated in such a way to justify Derek's heated rhetoric. The liberal outlook of Dr. Sweeney with his 'two PhD's'and the raw anger of the black gang, is not enough to counteract Derek's diatribe. Having said all of that, the cinematography was creative (Kaye's past in the advertising industry certainly helped) - the contrast between the black and white scenes juxtaposed against the coloured scenes, the musical score was aptly appropriate successfully heightening emotional tension. And I look foward to seeing more films directed by Tony Kaye and definitely films which features Ed Norton. De Niro and Pacino - move over please!
