Summary: Skinhead?
Review: I have seen this movie about twice. This movie is very vivid in showing how skinheads are. All though some skinheads aren't really rascist such as the ones who started and are a part of the groups Anti-Racist Action, which was formed to stop the stereo-type that all skinheads were racist nazis who killed people of other races and the skinheads who started adn are a part of S.H.A.R.P (Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice) which has the same purpose as ARA. This movie may make you feel uncomfortable at some parts but I highly reccomend it!

Summary: When hate boils over
Review: First things first, this movie is not a joke. The content is incredibly serious, and the scenes that are shown within reflect this.

Edward Norton plays the role of Derek Vineyard, a misled youth with a mind to persuade, who falls into the white supremacy scene. Derek learns the racial hatred from his father who was killed in the line of duty, while fighting a fire at a Compton drug den. Derek's intense hate coupled with Norton's almost terrifyingly real performance, helps the audience see that there is some basis in the rhetoric that is presented in racism. I was scared at how convinved I was of Norton's performance, and deep thought is requied to try and overcome his sway.

The plot is so gripping, you can feel the emotion around you while you watch scene after scene filled with nothing but hate. Norton truly deserved the nomination he got for the role, and I was surprised to see that he didn't get it.

All in all, I don't want to spoil the plot in the review, you really need to see a movie of this calibre by going in cold. I would recommend this movie to anybody who hasn't seen it, and all I can do is hope that everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. It is a moving tale.

Summary: American History X (Review)
Review: American History X truly focuses on what racism is really like today. In this film, you see what life is like through the eyes of present day skin heads, as well as the consequences for their actions. Edward Norton is spectacular in this film, as well as all the other main actors. The way the movie is planned and laid out, the message is sent out very well. I tip my hat to this film.

Summary: An absolute must see
Review: I recently rented American History X, not expecting a whole lot out of it. I never went to see it in the theater because I thought it would be just another movie chock full of senseless violence and vulgarities.

What I did not expect was the gripping performance put on by Edward Norton, the graphic (yet not gratuitous) depictions of racially motivated violence, or a storyline so powerful that it actually moved me to tears.

If you cannot stomach graphic violence, i would not recommend this movie; but I highly recommend this to anyone interested in a powerful movie that actually has a message, not to common in today's films. Worth every penny!

Summary: Life is too short to hate
Review: I first saw this movie on cable about 2 weeks ago, and it was one of the best movies I've ever seen. A man who was a skinhead after getting the wrong message from his father goes to jail after getting caught committing racist crimes. While in jail he meets an African American prisoner, and they become friends. He realizes racism is wrong, and he finally gets out on parolle. He returns only to find out that people think of him as a skinhead king, and that his little brother had become a skin head himself. He spends the movie trying to convince his brother that racism is wrong and to be tolerant of others differences. There are many powerful flashbacks to his racist days, as well as backround information on his family. The movie preaches a good message. Life is too short to hate, you should love.

Summary: Exellent Portrayal of Racism in Todays Youth
Review: This movie, at first, shocked me. Slowly towards the middle i realized that this is exactly what I see every day. Basicly whites hating blacks and vise-versa. It also explain better to me how people so easily can over-look the most simple way to resolve a problem without violence. Despite how most people would classify this movie, I thought it was great!

Summary: After school special leftovers, anyone?
Review: I love Norton. He's why I rented this movie. Let me just say, I'm glad I didn't buy it. At times I felt moved by the performances, but at other times I seriously felt embarrassed for the filmmakers.

For example, I couldn't help but giggle when the Nazi's challenged the black kids to a game of basketball. "Not for money, for the court." I mean, come on! When I think of Nazis and Gangsters playing b-ball I expect a punch line, unfortunately there was none. I can just imagine a Hollywood dope writing this script from his summerhouse in Sun Valley Idaho, completely ignorant of the subject matter taken on by the script.

Furthermore, I can't think of a recent movie with more continuity problems. You mean to tell me that a Nazi so crazed with rage as to murder three minorities can be enlightened simply by a casual acquaintance with another incarcerated man that happens to be black? Maybe I could buy it if I could see the struggle, but there was none. There's a point in the movie where Norton just isn't racist anymore, and only God and the screenwriter know why.

Don't get me wrong, it isn't a bad movie. But when tackling this extremely heavy subject matter, one should be prepared to do their homework. Don't just create a dozen stereotypical antagonists/protagonists and see where it heads, the apparent strategy of AHX's filmmakers.

Summary: Edward Norton is absolutely brilliant
Review: Edward Norton is an absolute chameleon. He may be the best actor in America now. The word "riveting" is, for once, totally accurate: you cannot take your eyes off of Norton. As for the movie itself (what other actor could have done this role, I don't know), it's like this: Have you ever seen Nazis, I mean real, full-blown, skin-headed Nazis who worship Hitler and the whole nine yards, and asked yourself "Where the hell do these people COME from? Do they look like this ALL the TIME, or is this some kind of costume they put on on Saturdays or something? Don't they have PARENTS, for God's sake? What in hell is their HOME LIFE like? Do they HAVE homes? How did they ever GET like this? Don't they have MOTHERS or FATHERS? etc" This movie answers all those questions very convincingly, very plausibly. It's a fascinating look inside a certain culture, a rare voyeur's-eye-view inside an American Nazi's household. Even shows you, quite plausibly, how someone goes from being a normal schoolkid in a middle-class neighborhood with a kind of an Archie Bunker-type Dad to being a full-blown, murderous Nazi who feels no shame whatsoever in having a huge swastika tatooed on his chest and is brazenly proud of murdering blacks. Another great thing about the movie is that the kid, despite all of the above, is NOT an idiot. When spouting his views, he brings up all the points that mainstream politicians make all the time -- views which must be addressed, which cannot simply be dismissed as the rantings of an ignorant fanatic. (i.e. the kid is well-informed regarding how much money taxpayers in the State of California spend on medical care for illegal immigrants, etc.) A really powerful film. It will instantly make Edward Norton your favorite actor.

Summary: Incredible
Review: This film has more to say, contains more truth about the human condition and our ability to hate each other and ourselves, than everything else that has come out of Hollywood in the past twenty years.

Coming from a fiercely jaded person growing up in the eMpTyV generation, desensitized to most everything the world can throw at me, this movie made me cry.
