Summary: First of all....
Review: First of all....if one can say that they really can like a film like this, then I did....definitely not for the story line, but for the film's style and the way it was presented. This film takes a look at a small segment of our society, those who follow the warped beliefs of Nazism and Hitler, and brings it to life. This definitely wasn't Oprah or Geraldo, but a serious look into the lives of one family and how those beliefs impacted upon it. The film follows how the sons of the family developed or incorporated those beliefs as their own and how the rest of the family worked to change them or stay away from them. There are some scenes that audience members may find difficult to watch but even with your eyes closed, you still could sense that scene strongly. Should you see this film?...definitely! Can you learn from it?...maybe. It will not teach you sensitivity or help you understand how one learns to be hateful...what it does do is show you very vividly...what hate is. If you walk away from this film with anything...it is an acceptance that there is hate in our society and there are no easy ways to prevent it, change it or destroy it. That doesn't mean we should accept it...this film just brings it out in a very vivid way. Bottom line....if you have ever wanted to see a film that you might consider walking out of due to the violence of it...this is one that might just do it for you.

Summary: powerful and captivating
Review: This movie shows that no matter how strong ones beliefs are that they can change. No person was better for this part than Edward Norton, he gave an outstanding performance. I think anybody who is prejudiced should see this movie because it shows how ignorant a person could be, it also shows that it is always better to like someone as a person and not the color of their skin. And hatred is something so aweful that it can kill you emotionally and physically. This movie had a good and bad ending but it just goes to show you that can happen when racism is involved. It is so sad what goes on in this movie but it is reality to some people, and the people that are like that should see this and wake up, because being racist will get you no where!

Summary: One of the best movies I have ever seen.
Review: This is one of the movies that touched me more than any others have in quite a long time. It puts a human face on skinheads, not glorifying them yet showing how a young person can be warped by a racist father and what racism can do to a family. Derek Vinyard had to learn the truth about racism the hard way by being betrayed in prison and he began to question his beliefs after a black man is the only person who befriends him. He begins to understand how futile and destructive hatred is only to pay for his mistakes in the end. At times this movies is difficult to watch but I think it is important for everyone to see. Ed Norton definitely deserved the oscar for this film and was cheated. Anyone who watches this will see how racism only destroys families, hurts others and destroys one's self in the end. It is brutal yet honest and it is what good filmmaking is all about it. I would give it ten stars if I could. Simply brilliant.

Summary: American history eggs
Review: A graphic and disturbing portrayal of being a skinhead(egg head). About the most disturbing aspect of this film is that you can't help yourself empathising with anti-hero derek through his eloquent monologues. Ignore the ill-fitting score and some of the more stylised shots that would look more at home in an old spice advert and just emerse yourself in one of the most chilling films of recent times. Remember, you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs.

Summary: Could've been great. Only OK
Review: When I heard that Ed Norton was going to play a skinhead I couldn't wait. To be fair he did great with what he was given, but unfortunately he wasn't given much.

All of the characters, even Norton's, were two dimensional. They were there to serve the plot. It's fine to have a movie that says racism is bad, but a really great one would've made you agree and sympathize with the skinheads and racists before it showed you the violence and hate that come from those views.

I might have liked it more if I didn't have such high hopes coming in. As it is I can't help but feel that the director/studio wasted a great opportunity with one of the best and most fearless young actors in movies.

I knew that racism was bad going in and after it was over I hadn't learned anything new.

Review: Wow! This movie was so awsome I had to start it over again right after the first time I watched it, then I had to purchase it the next day. The acting was unbelievably true from all points on the screne. If you want to watch a one of the greatest films about hatred from all races this is the one for you. The movie is truly one of the best of all times. I wouldn't even waste time renting it just buy it so you can watch it over and over again.

Summary: Fight the real enemy: hate.
Review: Wow...I wasn't too keen on watching this film based on its premise, but it is truly one of the best films I've ever seen. Not many films would dare to peer into the cancer that is white supremacy, yet show that there can be a redemption of sorts. The most thought-provoking scenes occur during Derek's (Edward Norton) transformation in prison. Here, he finds that everything is not as he thought it was, and that some injustices are very real. He eventually befriends a black inmate who unconditionally treats him as an equal (despite clearly knowing Derek's racist views), and soon learns that his friend is serving 6 years for a mere theft that has been trumped up to "assault of a police officer", while his own sentence for murdering two black men is lesser. And yet this does not come off as some preachy statement on the injustices faced by blacks who commit crimes versus whites. The film levels the playing field quite admirably. Avery Brooks does a fine job as the Sweeney, a black teacher who recognizes the blind hatred in Derek and consequently in his younger brother Daniel (Edward Furlong), who is swiftly following in his brothers footsteps. Sweeney, reflecting on his own youth, sheds light on reverse-racism in growing up black. Both Edwards (Norton and Furlong) deliver intensely real performances.

This film, like no other I have seen in recent years, so well conveys the concept that the only real enemy is not to be found in another person, but in the blind, untempered hatred within us fueled by our fears, insecurities and misunderstandings.

Summary: .
Review: This movie is not without its problems, and a few of the criticisms in the negative reviews a ways back are valid. And I do not merit any movie, ever, for its "social importance" or whatnot. But the reason I *do* give this film 5 stars is because it is absolutely intoxicating. It is compelling and powerful from start to finish. There are some holes to be poked and some nits to be picked, but the pitch perfect quality of the performances and the unflinching brutality of the content and script more than make up for it. The climax is ... incredibly impacting. If you feel even the slightest inclination to see this film, I highly recommend you follow it through.
