Summary: Tear jerker!
Review: We have rented this movie before, but never had time to watch it. Then tonight it was on TV, and I decided to watch it. I'm sorry I didn't watch it before! It's such a wonderful story, and the acting is great. It's starts with Shelby(Julia Roberts) getting married, goes through the lives of her and five other women, and ends with her dying. There really is no main theme 'till the end, other than the same women are in it. I cried at the end when she died, but realized how special it was! Men might even enjoy this one! A must see.

Summary: WIll make you laugh & cry!
Review: This is one of my favorite movies of all time. Everybody in it was amazing! I thought Shirley MacLaine made the movie--she was hysterical! I know a lot of people have commented that Dolly Parton is not the greatest actress, but the thing about Dolly is--nobody cares! She's the kind of person you just love and want to watch regardless of what she can or can't do. Sally Field was amazing, and Julia, Olympia & Daryl also gave strong performances. The chemistry between these women was incredible! Would like to see more movies like this made.

Summary: fun, escapist and undemanding entertainment
Review: This is essentially a two-hour chance for each actress to display her acting chops. All of them do very well, especially Roberts and Fields (who gets a dramatic monologue in the middle of the film that practically screams "Oscar"). Dukasis and McClaine have very good chemistry together, and Dolly Parton prooves that singing isn't her only talent. The only minor glitch in this movie is Darryl Hannah, who by herself, isn't terrible, but when sharing the screen with such charismatic performers, seems to shrink into mediocrity. This a slick, formulaic dramedy that does work.

Summary: Great performances in this charming movie!
Review: I especially enjoyed Shirley Mcclaine's performance as she lights up the screen in her hate-the-world manners.I thought the guy who played Darryl Hannah's husband did a great job,he made me laugh so hard!I have seen him in other movies but i'm sorry to say i do not know what his name.I have always thought Julia Roberts was a great actress and she sure proves how talented she is in this movie. This movie will make you laugh and cry and have a great time,so go out and see this movie!

Summary: One of the Best Movies Ever Made
Review: I have seen this movie over 10 times and I enjoy it every time I watch it. Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Dolly Partin, Olympia Dukakis, Shirley McClain, and Daryl Hannah give stellar perfomances. It is not a fast-paced, full of action movie, but a slower, interesting movie about the lives of six Southern women.

Summary: A Powerhouse of Acting, A Picture of the South
Review: Stellar performances across the board help to encapsulate the essence of Southern quaintness. This movie emphasizes the importance of networks of support -- family, friends, community -- in facing our daily trials and life-altering events. The acting in this movie is so phenomenal, that it requires multiple viewings, focusing on specific characters during each viewing, in order to fully appreciate the film. Most recently, I've enjoyed the compassionate bluntness of Dolly Parton's character Truvy. To all who buy this video, enjoy.

Summary: ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME !!
Review: This is diffenately one of the best movies I have ever seen. It is truely one of a kind. I dont think I have ever cried so much during one movie. The all star cast is absolutley amazing! I truely cant say enough good things about this video, except to say you have got to see it !!

Summary: Unoriginal, but charming.
Review: I admit it, I wasn't crazy about this film when it was originally released. I original thought it was nothing but a lessor (albeit well-acted) clone of the superior TERMS OF ENDEARMENT. Recently rewatching the film, I found out that my initial recations were wrong. Well . . . at least partially wrong.

This is a good film, but not great. It's charm makes up for it's well-worn story. MacLaine (Oscar winner from TERMS) is good for some laughs, and Parton finds the right mix of sexy and sweet in her sassy role. Sexy blonde bombshell Hannah is also surprisingly effective as a mousy wallflower. However, it's the pre-fame Robert who is the stand out in what could have been a thankless role.

I am a fan of Sally Field, but her casting is a main problem. She plays the controling mother role more as an annoying big sister and her "powerful" hysterics in the cemetary seen more suited to her role in SYBIL.

Still, it's a good movie. It doesn't deserve the following it has and, as Maltin says, it's no TERMS, but it's fun.
