Summary: It was wasteful of words.
Review: This movie could have gotten to the point faster if it had been more concise. It was also hard to follow because of the language. It also would have been nearly impossible to understand if the play had not been read first. The acting was good because each actor accurately portrayed the characters as Shakespeare had described them.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: A good story, not a bod movie.
Review: The story had more details than the film, but the film wasn't that bad. I thought it was pretty interesting. The two parts I noticed that were left out were the clown's conversation and someone jumping into the grave. I also think the music was better on the film.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: It was a good movie and it helped me understand the play.
Review: I liked the movie better than the play, but in the movie it did not have the gravediggers conversation and it did not have Hamlet falling into Ophelia's grave. But in the play it did not sound like Hamlet was insane, but in the movie, they put all his emotions into it and made him to be insane. But I liked the movie alot and it help show me better understand the play.

Summary: I enjoyed watching the movie,I can't wait to see it again.
Review: The differences b/t the movie and the play was that, the movie was easier to understand, even though it left alot out. I would even consider watching it again. The only thing I still don't understand it why they used that type stuff for posion, and why Ophelia died without telling Hamlet her true feelings toward him so he would stay there with her.

Summary: I felt that Hamlet was an average movie worth watching.
Review: This movie version of Hamlet was a good interpretation of Shakespeare's play. I felt as though it was as good of a presentation of the play that can be made into an interesting movie. Although, many of the significant parts of the play were cut from the movie. For example: most of the first act, any mention of Fortinbras and other minor but still significant parts. That is why I give this movie three stars. However, I feel that it is probably the best movie of Hamlet that is out there and I think that it is a good extension to reading Hamlet, in that it helps to understand parts you might have misinterpreted. All in all, this was worth watching if you have the free time.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: A good story but boring movie.
Review: Over all the movie wan't that bad. They left out some of the parts that were in the play, like the part were someone jumped into the grave. They also left out the clowns conversation while they were digging the grave. This is a pretty good story, but the film was a little boring.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Good acting yet long pointless story line.
Review: I rated the movie as a three because the acting was great, but it wasn't a very good story. Mel Gibson did a great job depicting the grief and anxiety Hamlet felt. Nevertheless, the story was very long and over emphasized.

Summary: A Hamlet Worth Watching Again and Again
Review: A Northwestern prof of mine once said "Zeffirelli thinks one of his pictures is worth a 1000 of Shakespeare's words." Yes, Zeffirelli cuts and moves text when he does Shakespeare (Romeo & Juliet, Taming of the Shrew, Hamlet). However, the text chosen makes such good sense. Just try challenging text snobs to list what has been moved within this Hamlet -- they can't. [For the curious: "Get thee to a nunnery"]

Then there are the elitist comments about Mel Gibson being inappropriate for Hamlet. Ignore them. He is realistic and believable. Be honest--Branagh lost it when the chandelier impales Derek Jacobi's Claudius.

The rest of the cast is the most consistently strong of those available on video including Hamlets as diverse as Olivier, Branagh, Derek Jacobi, Kevin Kline, and some Russian. Ian Holm's Polonius and everyone's reaction to him is priceless. Helena Bonham-Carter's Ophelia actually had wits to lose unlike most Ophelias.

Watch Zeffirelli's Hamlet. Own it. Enjoy the sword fight. Watch it again. Please note -- I was definitely NOT paid to write this.

Summary: It rocked i loved it!!!
Review: Mel Gibson WAS GREAT HE GAVE A STAR PERFORMANCE STOP CUTTING THE MOVIE DOWN IT WAS TRULY AS GOOD AS IT GOT CHEERS FOR ALL THE CAST MEMBERS!!!!

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Horrible!!
Review: If I had a zero star choice, that's what I'd choose. This does not mean I don't love Shakespeare, I saw a way-off-broadway student production and they were absolutely great. "Suit the action to the word, the word to the action" is Hamlet's own words to the player, and he should have been there to coach Mel Gibson and Co. Every show of aggression in the film came as a shock- not a surprise. Very unsettling when you feel whatever emotion there is should not amount to this. The whole effect was very artificial, and that includes the acting, the filming, and the cast. The only saving feature was the set and costume, and they don't do nearly enough saving.
