Rating: Summary: Flawed Masterpiece. Review: Still worthy of 5 stars, although all we are left with is the incomplete cut. The original director's cut is seemingly lost for good. This version suffers somewhat from uneven, jerky pacing, but no matter. It still manages to compete with the best of Romero's 'Dead' Trilogy for billing as his greatest cinematic achievement. Like 'Night...', this film succeeds because, not in spite of, its' humble resources. Slow as it occasionally gets, there is a certain dreamy, depressive quality to the film that fits the theme perfectly. John Amplas is unforgettable in the title role and I find myself watching it over and over again. This easily tops my list of greatest vampire films of all time (and that's figuring in 'Nosferatu' and 'The Vampyr').

Rating: Summary: Romero's Best Review: The DVD edition of this film is more then worth the money for the commentary by Romero, special effects wiz & co-star Tom Savini and Martin himself John Amplas alone. This being one of my favorite movies, it was great to hear what went on behind the scenes while they were making it. This version, as well as the Collectors Edition VHS also features the original trailer, which has Martin trying to explain himself to the camera (" I want to be like other people....I do things I don't necessarily want to do."). "Martin" itself is a very disturbing film, and does something that most horror movies don't ever do~makes you actually care about the main character, and leaves you thinking about it long after it's over.
Rating: Summary: One of the finest work from director:George A. Romero. Review: The first time, i heard about the film was reading a article based on Romero`s films and later from last year, buying it at a place, where they had all kind of films are used and new for sale. I brought it without watching it. Am very glad, i did. This movie is something very unlike than anymovie, i seen. Thought the videotape was very bad picture quality, i didn`t care, i was into the movie. John Amplas as the title role-Martin and Lincoln Maazel as Cuba, thier performances are one of the best things of Romero`s Work. Very well written and some very suspenseful moments and humour also. DVD quatily is impressive with the picture quality and sound in mono. Excellent and Very funny commentary track by Romero, Amplas and Tom savini, also has a small part in the film. Romero said in his commentary, there is a Three hour version is lost or something stole that print of the film, maybe the thief is very lucky to keep it a Collection of his own!. Very good tralier also. Today Romero`s film is his most personal film to date and it also a midnight classic of it`s own. Today who didn`t seen the film, rent it or buy it, you will won`t regret it. Grade:A.
Rating: Summary: Martin by George Romero Review: The movie stars John Amplas and even has a special appearence by Legend Makeup effects man Tom Savini (Dawn of Dead, Night Of the Living Dead to name a few). The movie also has an appearance by George Romero himself as Father Howard. Amplas has been in alot of Romero's movies but Martin is the only movie where he is the star and it's by far his best acting and by far his best role. Ive always like George Romero's movies, their full of action, great camera angles, eerie music, and some gore too, the biggest complaint though and this is BIG!! is that George always find a way to screw up his movies. He always likes to kill of several main characters in his movies, just when we are starting to understand or like them. From Night of The Living Dead to Day of the Dead , George always winds up killing our favorite characters,Barbara, Roger the policeman/swat in Dawn, Captain Rhodes in Day of the Dead etc. Martin is no exception, I was visually entertained through out the whole film, the great camera shots, the dreamlike scenes in which Martin is with that girl he bites and the housewife he meets in his little world. Oh yes , I forgot to mention Martin is a wannabee vampire who doesnt have fangs but has a strong fetish for blood, he is one sick puppy. But taken his surroudings it's a little understandable. He has some human elements to him but most of the film deals with his addictiveness toward human blood and woman. His Grandfather suspects he is a vampire like Nosferatu and constantly watches Martin. Martin has some 70's nostalgia to it like the music. When I saw the cheap ending where Martin's Grandfather killed him, though, I said "Oh no" George did it again, he put a bad ending to a good film. However to his defense, I know George kills off his characters on purpose, though you would think he would kill of the annoying characters and not the good ones. My advice to anyone seeing this movie is expect more of the same in his other movies, great from the beginning and middle but kinda lets you down in the end. A good film from a great ,yet stubborn director.

Rating: Summary: Awesome, Amazing, A great classic worth purchasing! Review: The movie starts off kinda slow, but be patient, it just gets better and better. The box in comes in has a 'sheet' that opens and there's an awesome photo of MARTIN holding a wine filled broken glass, as it drips down his hand. An instant classic, you won't know what to expect. Plus, there's a Romero Cameo, as George Romero plays a preist. Great Movie, buy it today, watch it tomorrow!!!!!!!! Whether you're Gothic or not, you'll love it.
Rating: Summary: Unique And Original Horror Classic Review: The new DVD of George Romero's MARTIN is a great and long-overdue presentation of this horror classic. It's full-frame (the correct aspect ratio) just like the old VHS, but the image and colors are much sharper. This film was made just prior to "Dawn of the Dead" and it is very low-budget, but it is a true original and one of Romero's best. Romero was always most successful in his low-budget guerilla-filmmaking days and MARTIN stands out even moreso today as a great film especially when compared to all the big Hollywood-hyped cgi computer-effects laden trash coming out today. John Amplas plays the troubled teenager who has been raised to believe he is a "nosferatu". Since he really isn't, he uses a syringe and razor blades to carry out his murderous deeds. Tom Savini appears in a small role as does Romero himself (as a priest). The DVD contains the very interesting trailer (Amplas as Martin talking to the camera interspersed with scenes from the film) plus a commentary track with Romero, Amplas and Savini). A must purchase.
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Vampire Films! Review: This 1978 gem from director George A. Romero stars John Amplas as Martin. The film focuses on Martin's confusion and torment as he searches for victims to fulfill his hunger for blood. Although, we are never really sure if he is an actual vampire or rather if he is simply delusioned with flash backs he created, which I think is primarily the impression that is hinted through the film. I found this film compelling simply for the fact that it is not the regular gore and violent filled vampire film, but is rather a look into Martin's disturbing mind, and eventually comes out feeling almost like a drama. If you have never seen Martin, I highly recommend buying this film on DVD. It is well worth the money, and it includes a commentary by the two stars, as well as George A. Romero.
Rating: Summary: Romero's pick on vampires Review: This is one of George Romero's most underrated pictures. A brilliantly photographed and wonderfully directed modern vampire story with a very good John Amplas in the title role. Asking about this movie Romero often claimed this as his best and most personal picture, so you are probably wrong when you identify this great director only by his Zombie films. By the way Lincoln Maazel is the brother of Lorin Maazel who is a very famous conductor !
