Rating: Summary: A GOOD FILM Review: I FIRST WATCHED IT AT SCHOOL IN MY ENGLISH CLASSROOM, WHEN I WAS IN 7TH GRADE. I LOVED HOW IT SHOWED A DIFFERENT SIDE OF LEO. OUR TEACHER LET US WATCH SO WE WOULD UNDERSTAND THE NOT SO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND PEOPLE OF THE WORLD AND WHAT CRAZY EVENTS IN LIFE MAY HAPPEN TO YOU IF YOUR NOT CAREFUL. WELL IT WAS EXCELLENT!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Great Book/Movie Review: I read the book first and then saw the movie, both were fantastic.Author Peter Hedges captured the small town, Iowa life perfectly. This is one of my kid's favorite movies, mine too. I loved seeing the familiar High School names used, products like Anderson Erikson Dairy products etc.. See you at the 20 year Valley reunion Peter.
Rating: Summary: Man is his mum FAT! Review: I just want to say that Gilbert's mum is HUGE, and apparently that's all her, like no padding and stuff, so she's one brave FAT chic! I think DiCaprio put in a very talented performance, as it must be hugely difficult to act like that if your not kinda thing. i think it's really sad when Becky leaves, but it's really cool when she comes back!
Rating: Summary: excellent movie Review: i like this movie very much. johnny depp is brilliant as always and the supporting cast give great performances too. it's a little sad, romantic, funny and very moving.
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Review: Wow, Leonardo must be good in this, even the multitudes that can't stand him like him in this movie.Personally, I love him and as much I love "Titanic", his best acting is as Arnie. He represents all the Arnies in the world who do not have anyone to tell their story. His acting is gifted from above. If you don't like "WEGG", then you have a snake where your heart ought to be.
Rating: Summary: Arnie is my hero!! Review: This is, without a doubt, one of the best movies I have ever seen! The characters are so real, especially Arnie. Leonardo did a fantastic job and I think he's so awesome. This is definetly a movie worth seeing. Even if you aren't a big DiCaprio fan you'll surely fall in love with Arnie Grape.
Rating: Summary: Leo plays the part perfectly Review: This film was one of leo's greats. He plays it wonderfully and deserved more acknowledment than he did for "whats eating gilbert grabe"
Rating: Summary: Puts a smile on your face Review: "Gilbert Grape" is a great American film directed by a foreigner, however, lacking the glib superficiality of Alexis de Toqueville. This movie is funny, sad, and cathartic. It doesn't rely on plot but characters, and allows the viewer to sympathize and relate. Leo DiCaprio proves he isn't just the king of the girls in this stellar role that rightfully merited an Oscar nod. Of course, everyone fools around, making fun of mentally retarded people, but Leo is somehow convincing, a compliment to his acting strength. Furthermore, this movie embodies the necessity, like its small town loneliness, obsession with death and deformity, and expansive fields, of change and moving on. Throughout there is the ever present American norm of preservation of grudges, grievances and disapproval. It is such a brilliant representation of American life that it basically enthralls the viewer when he realizes the family life is also a realistic moving tapestry. Love the dinner scenes! What a potent, wonderful film this is, that causes us to acknowledge ourselves, communities and families in a reciprocal way.
Rating: Summary: A beautiful, heartwarming film Review: I watched this movie for the first time long before Leo was famous. His portrayal of Arnie,an autistic teenager is breathtaking, and absolutely perfect.I know this because at my school there was an amazing autistic boy in my class. This autistic boy acted in almost identical ways to Arnie, breathing life into boring lessons!I read that Leo chose to play Arnie in such a happy and positive way, rather than portraying a miserable, hopeless character.I am so glad he did because this film made me realise how much fun and love autistic children can bring into a family, even though raising them must be hard.Obviously every autistic person is an individual, however,so other people may not see the similarities. All the actors in this film did a wonderful job.I feel that everyone should experience this film,as it restores faith in human nature.
