Rating: Summary: It's a great movie!!! Review: I think that all of the actors in What's eating Gilbert Grape did a wonderful job. This is an off-beat movie but definatly the best I've ever seen. The characters allow you to relate to them and I think that that is what pulled me in. You feel so sorry for poor Gilbert. Leonardo DiCaprio did extremly well! I highly recommed seeing this movie!
Rating: Summary: A heartwarming film about brotherly love and family loyalty. Review: What's Eating Gilbert Grape is my favorite movie. I have seen it dozens of times and I never get bored with it. The reason...Leonardo DiCaprio. Never mind "Titanic". If you want to see DiCaprio at his best, this is the film to see! As many times as I watch it, his portrayal of Arnie, a retarded soon to be 18 year old boy, never ceases to amaze me! His performance is captivating. DiCaprio becomes Arnie. This film is an extremely touching story of family loyalty, albeit dysfunctional family loyalty. The title character is played exceptionally well by Johnny Depp, but it is difficult to focus on anyone but Leonardo DiCaprio. The best scenes in the film are those between Depp and DiCaprio. Gilbert is Arnie's primary caretaker. His love for Arnie is undeniable but marred by frustration and on occasion, resentment that he has been saddled with the burden of being his brother's keeper. He sums it up best with the line, "Somedays you want him to live, somedays...you don't". Gilbert is not as cruel as that makes him sound. It's just that he has no life other than Arnie and a "going nowhere" fling with a married woman. His two sisters are kept pretty busy taking care of their obese Mother, whom Gilbert describes as a "beached whale". It all takes place in a small town where it seems just about all of it's residents want more out of life. Gilbert learns there is more to life when he meets a free spirited young woman who is passing through town. Naturally, this further complicates his already complicated life. I will most likely watch it dozens more times. What's Eating Gilbert Grape is a beautiful and moving film.
Rating: Summary: Its Gilbert!!! Review: I loved it!! Leonardo DiCaprio never fell out of step. Johnny Depp was a great actor in it. It was a movie that finally showed small town and real life.
Rating: Summary: Wow, as dynamic as it is real! You will fall in love Review: I was surprised how much I enjoyed this film. Being a diehard sci-fi fan I don't usually go for drama. But in the end I would say its the best movie I'v ever seen. Once you see it you'll agree. Every character is so real. You can identify with all of them. The story is so dynamic, everybody changes. Leonardo Di Caprio (whom I hated in Titanic) is so convincing, you would swear they got a real autistic person to play Arnie. Johnny Depp made a great Gilbert, the role seemed made for him "shimmering [he] glow[s]". The story displays some of the problems that tear our families apart, and in contrast, in the end it shows all the values and loyalties that make up a caring family. Endora could be anywhere USA. This story is just so intense and dramatic, that you can't help but fall in love with it. I did.
Rating: Summary: GREAT Review: This movie was the best. You can laugh, you can cry, you realise what Gilbert's going through and his problems. It's one of the best movies by Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp. It's life in a small town with lots of problems.
Rating: Summary: IT WAS A FANTASTIC MOVIE. I LOVED IT. Review: What's Eating Gilbert Grape was one my first favorite movies by Leo. I thought he played one heck of a role. He did wonderfully well playing the part of Arnie. The movie was sad in alot of ways, and fantastic in the rest. I watch this movie alot, and I probably will always watch it when I have the chance.
Rating: Summary: Leonardo DiCaprio's best performance! Review: I was kinda leary of watching it because of the title. But as anyone knows, you can't judge a movie by it's name. So I sat down and watchd it and I thought that was the most touching movie I have seen in a long time. Leonardo DiCaprio was a pro in his role.
Rating: Summary: Excellent study resource Review: 'What's eating Gilbert Grape' is a film I am studying for year 12 English, yet is one of the best pictures I have ever seen. It has a multitude of social characteristics each character. It cannot fit into any category such as comedy, romance, drama comfortably, as it includes it all! The issue in this film is dominately change. The dysfunctional Grape family (Gilbert in particular) who live in the remote town 'Endora', encounter a great deal of change as they battle out their inharmonious lives, as demonstrated by Becky who bonded with Gilbert in the week she broke down in her journey around the country. END
Rating: Summary: An Excellent movie with an Excellent ACTOR!!!!!! Review: I think Leonardo DiCaprio is very giflted with his acting. He takes it serios yet he has fun with it. In Whats Eating Gilbert Grape he experienced something new at what he tried and yet he succeded at what he did. I like he learned how to be that person and he probably had a good time with the restof the actors/actresses. Jonny Depp also did very well. He took the job of acting a guy with a lot of feeling to what is going on. So I think actually this is one of my favorite movies of all time. END
Rating: Summary: Great movie! Review: Seen this movie about 5 times already.I love it because Leonardo plays a retarded 17-going-on-18 year old boy.He said he spent a couple of days at a home for retarded kids to play this part and I think he did wonderful.Putting lots of character into his character, makes the story more believable.Get this movie. You'll love it!! END
