Review: Don't let the fact that there are six video tapes in this set intimidate you. I found myself watching all six in one evening (even though I planned to watch only one). Jane Austen's talent for romantic comedy are brought vividly to life. The costumes, the scenery, and the talented actors, take us to that place we thought we would only find in the pages of Austen's novels. Like the book, we cannot wait to see what happens next! My whole family enjoyed this movie and I recommend it highly. You will watch it over and over again.

Review: I believe that I have seen as many versions of Pride and Prejudice as anyone can, besides having read the novel countless times. Though this A&E/BBC production takes some liberties in elaborating on certain parts of the original novel, it only adds to the appeal of this cinematic adaptation, especially for those who might be intimidated by Austen's language, or who may never have even heard of the book. Watching this version, I felt agan the thrill of excitement at seeing the duel between these two lovers. I still love the original BBC version too, but I have both now and alternate between watching one or the other of the two, and reading the book. Though at first I though Jennifer Ehle could not do Elizabeth Bennett justice, I found that she, like Greer Garson, became more attractive to me as I watched more of the film, as opposed to Elizabeth Garvie who was simply lovely. I believe that this was a much more rewarding kind of casting, as we seem almost to see with Mr. Darcy's eyes. And as for those who say that Colin Firth is not attractive, you need stronger glasses than I have!

Review: Wow. I can't even begin to describe how awesome this movie is. I got it for my birthday and the first thought I had was "oh. Five hours." I watched it the first time by virtue of the fact that I had seen A&E/BBC's version of Emma and absolutely adored that. Truthfully, I didn't think I'd make it through the first tape, but on the contrary, after the 6th and final tape I was disappointed that it was over already. It prompted me to go out and read the book, which I found to be just as charming as the movie. The actors are excellent, the presentation of the story excellent, the costuming is excellent, the music is excellent, and, well, you get the idea...

Summary: A superb adaptation of Jane Austen's masterpiece!
Review: I've seen all three cinematic portrayals of this book (assuming there are only three), and this is my favorite. It's a lot more faithful to the book than the Greer Garson Hollywood version, and I also found it superior to the late 70's PBS production (although the PBS version had better casting in certain roles --- their Jane and Elizabeth were more attractive, I thought). Still, this latest production was excellent, worth watching repeatedly!

Summary: Sights and sounds for the heart and soul
Review: After having read all 58 of the reviews for this movie (with nary a naysayer in the bunch), I find there is little else to add except to comment on the deep ardor for the film that these viewers share. I believe that because this movie elevates morality and decency to a plane that hardly any if even one person under 50 today can recall, it strikes a nerve or meets a felt need in all of us for a return to higher cultural standards. It is such a refreshing sight to see a young woman behaving in a modest, feminine, and respectable manner in her attitudes and actions toward a man she cares about. Elizabeth Bennett would be a wonderful role model for women of the 90's. We women set the moral tone for civilization and men will as a rule live up (or down) to our expectations of them. To see chastity and virtue prized is so satisfying to the soul that hungers for some sign of it...anywhere--especially in movies. I hope that by purchasing this film series, my dollars will be casting votes for more movies of the same ilk to be produced in the future.

Review: I have seen all of the movies made based on this book. This one is the tops. Here is a movie that will melt your heart and delight your spirit. This is one you can watch over and over and never get tired of. If you liked the book, this is the movie for you. If you don't know the story and like Victoian novels, this is the movie for you.

Review: I was very happy to find this series on DVD because I won't have to buy another copy of it on tape. I had practically watched a hole in two VHS copies. The acting is superb -- Colin Firth gives me goosebumps. One of the best period pieces ever.

Review: The story is fun, the characters are right out of a fairy tale but the extremely poor video quality is a distraction. Someone should buy the BBC and A&E some decent video equipment.

Summary: I loved it except for one thing...
Review: This is the only film version I've seen of the wonderful novel, but I thought it was very true to the book. Almost all of the characters were like I had pictured them. The exception was Mr. Darcy. I personally thought that he was too serious, especially at his own estate. I had not pictured him so suave and self-assured when he met Elizabeth's aunt and uncle. Also, when Elizabeth was upset over Lydia eloping, Mr. Darcy didn't seem really alarmed. When he says, "Good God, what is the matter?" I pictured him to be more suprised and concerned. In the movie, the line seemed like it was said merely out of civility. Otherwise, this movie is superb. Yes, I cringed at Mrs. Bennet's rudeness and I raised my eyebrows at Mr. Collins' stupid speeches. Elizabeth's confidence and manner were excellent. The characters come to life - definitely watch this film.
