Rating: Summary: Outstanding Film. Great Actress! Review: If you want to see a film that is the debut of a wonderful actress, see Barton's performance here. It is breathtaking. This film is a wonderful, mystical experience about the trajedy of rejection and indifference and the redemptive power of love.
Rating: Summary: Australian/English director John Duigan rarely disappoints Review: ... and he certainly doesn't here. The film is full of his characteristic touches.
Rating: Summary: Quite possibly the best movie of 1998 Review: This sleeper gem got lost in the shuffle of many less worthy films (lizards and asteroids, anyone)? Hands down, this is one of the most astonishing films in recent memory--funny, sexy, tragic, frightening, and by the time you get to the jaw-dropping twist ending, breathtaking. Also one of the finest films ever made about the strange, haunting world young girls live in this side of "Alice in Wonderland." The perfect double feature with Tim Burton's "Edward Scissorhands"--and that is meant as very high praise.
Rating: Summary: A brilliant critique of US middle class white family life. Review: This is a film you can watch many times and come away with a deeper layer of critical insight into American, upper middle class family experience. Moral questions are raised about the rights of children, the poor and the disenfranchized. It is also a funny film that invites us to laugh at ourselves. I found the film delightful and I intend to add it to my video collection.
Rating: Summary: Promising but dissatisfying... Review: This movie starts out pretty well, as a spoof of suburban life. The friendship between Devon, the girl, and Trent, the lawn mower guy, is well portrayed and touching at times. But the movie's tone is inconsistent, and many situations end abruptly. The final sequence is a very strange choice; it just doesn't fit in with the rest of the story. Not highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: A great movie about friendship between a grown-up and a kid! Review: This movie shows how important a friendship between a grown-up and a child can become, when there is nobody pays attention to the kid. This movie should show that friendships like that aren't strange at all!
Rating: Summary: A must see!! Review: This movie was everything I want in a movie... It was tense, funny, and disturbing. I highly recommend this movie!
Rating: Summary: You forgot a piece of lettuce, Mrs. Stockard.... Review: A fascinating plot showing how innocent life can actually be when removing the political, social, and moral prejudices adulthood seems to subject upon us all. A frighteningly realistic portrayal of suburban life. Great cast, exceptional cinematography, and shocking ending that finds your jaw somewhere in your lap.
Rating: Summary: A Must-See Film Review: Great to see a film that takes chances in this day and age, an incredible film.
Rating: Summary: Don't Drink The Water... EXCELLANT Review: What an excellant film. Showing society and it's scenarios through the eyes of a 10 year old girl. I could have gone without some of the more disturbing pieces of the film, but overall the film was validated by the very surprise ending. 5 stars all the way
