Summary: An amazing, shocking and provocative movie!
Review: This is movie about the blood, the sweat and the tears that we perhaps never would have seen if it hadn`t been a movie called "In the name of the father". It tells it`s story roughly, how a father and his son goes from worlds apart to a deep respect, and how the IRA and the british government work hard to make them all disapear, so that noone will ever know how the irish dailylife actually is. When you commit a mistake, a crime, you don`t really see how your deeds can and will affect the ones you care about. Never the less, the false accusation, the false judgement in this movie is bound to provoce. Enjoy this piece of fine arts!

Summary: Review of "In the name of the father
Review: "In the name of the father" is a movie based on a true story about the Northern Ireland conflict. After some trouble with the IRA, a young man from Belfast, Gerry Conlon, has to move to London. Together with some friends, Gerry Conlon, gets judged for a crime he didn't commit. We follow their struggle against the English legal system. We enjoyed the film and strongly recommend it to everyone who wants to see a good movie about the Northern Ireland conflict.

Summary: A nice film, nothing more
Review: This movie gives one a good look at the way Irish is treated by the British goverment, and how innocent people can get convicted of crimes they didn't do, just because they are Irish. The fact that this movie is based on a true story makes it more interesting, but it is nevertheless a pretty dull film. I think it would have been better if they shorted it down a bit.

Summary: Far out man!
Review: Review of In the Name of the Father

This film was exellent first of all because it was based on a true story without being too dramatic or clichè-ridden, which stories from "true life" often are. It gave us a good - and we think also realistic - picture about the situation in Northern Ireland and England at the time. ( the 1970`s ) And also how corrupt the system can be. Even though we can`t understand what it is like to be held in prison for like 15 years you know. For something he did not even do. Get it? But the actors were brilliant and gave us a fairly good idea about how terrible it was. This film was far out man, and groovy as hell.

Summary: A great movie from the Northern-Ireland conflict
Review: This movie is about Gerry, who was arrested for a bomb-attack in England in 1974, that he didn't have anything to do with. The story develops into a witch-hunt, with all of his family and persons he has been in contact with getting arrested. The fact that these are events that actually have taken place, makes the movie really capturing. The story is great and so are the actors. The setting and surroundings also are extremely well-made.
If there was anything to set one's finger on, that has to be that the title of the movie wasn't all that suitable for it (In our very humble opinions). This because there isn't really anything to connect to the title until the closing scenes.
But all in all, this is a very recommendable movie that really captures you. Well worth watching!

Summary: PERFECT!
Review: This is such an excellent film - I can't put into words how much I loved it! I would recommend it to anyone - if they can handle some foul language. It's so intense - I love it more and more each time I watch it, and each time I cry harder and harder. I just can't say enough good things about this movie!

Summary: Great movie
Review: The only dissapointing factor of this movie is that it's not totally true. The victims which were the father and his son were portrayed as such when we are not totally sure if they were indeed involved in the Ira. All in all though a great film. Daniel Day-Lewis is just a brilliant actor and one of my favourite.

Summary: The IRA Trilogy.
Review: Three films that stand out in terms of explaining the movement of the Irish Republican Army are Michael Collins, Bloody Sunday and The Name of the Father, viewed in that order. Michael Collins explains the 1916 Irish Rising against British rule and the subsequent assassination of Collins for making a deal with the British to allow them to keep the North, a problem that still exists to this day, albeit calmed down somewhat because of the peace agreements. Bloody Sunday is about the armed assault by British Paratroopers that shot up a catholic peace protest in 1972. It is like watching Saving Private Ryan in the streets. That court case is still ongoing today. The Name of the Father is in Britain and is worth seeing again because of new events.

In 2005 The Prime Minister apologised for one of the worst miscarriages of British justice - the jailing those accused of the Guilford IRA bombings. This film is about what happened. Eleven people sent to prison over the attacks in Guildford and Woolwich in 1974. They were subject to such a horrific political ordeal and a deep miscarriage of injustice. The wrongly convicted were members and friends of two Irish families living in the UK at the time - the Conlons and Maguires. Although the Conlon father and son never did meet in prison (like they do in the film) it is still pretty much an accurate portrayal or police brutality and the corruption of the justice system.

In many ways the film has been deemed "inappropriate" along side other films such a "Bloody Sunday" because apparently they do not add anything of value to restoring peace, but the truth is that this kind of material has been censored in Ireland and the UK until the 1990s when for the first time the party of Sinn Fein was allowed a voice to represent Catholics in Northern Ireland - Jerry Adams was actually allowed to appear on the news and talk.

The problem is that the government is not responsible for the courts which allowed people to be subjected to the kind of ordeal that these two families went through, scapegoats for a political body that wanted to keep censoring the full extent of the troubles in the North.

This is a well-made movie with some great acting. Riveting stuff through and through and one of the best prison/court dramas who can get your hands on. In light of the Prime Minister's apology, this is work looking into again.

Summary: Incandescent and savage film!
Review: The tension state and the indignation will involve you and all your senses with this unfair process when an innocent Joseph Condon and his father are blamed of a murder they did not commit .
based on real facts and designed with superb artistic and art direction and a kinetic script , the film is simply ravishing . Emma Thompsom makes an unforgettable role and Daniel Day Lewis confirming his masterful magnetism and his charismatic presence , and showing his Academy Award was not a random fact .
Jim Sheridan has made until now a real masterpiece ; and the Hollywood attitude with this film was another unforgiven mistake .
But the time which is the supreme judge will put in order that unhappy decision . Remember for instance , Citizen Kane against The grapes of wrath , Dr. Strangelove against My fair Lady or the Judgemnent at Nuremberg to name just a few .
A classic film!
