Summary: Just plane bad
Review: Hmm it rains frogs!! Just a little on how bad this was. a bad move for Tom. Just plane bad! Boring! Don't waste your time!

Summary: Awful, miserable film.
Review: Despite the fact that I give this film only 1 star (and then only because there is no zero option) this is a truly remarkable film. It has some of the best acting I have ever seen, combined with excellent directing and filmmaking. Despite these, it still manages to be an awful, miserable film.

In a fair and just world it would take Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best whatever Actor and Worst Film all in one go. It came across as mundane, boring, depressing and, after 2 hours of waiting for it to make some kind of point, frustrating.

I watched this last night with my girlfriend and a friend, Will. Warning bells started ringing around 2 hours into the film when we realised that the thing still wasn't really going anywhere. After 2 and 1/2 hours we were compelled to check the remaining time and were horrified to discover that there were 40 minutes of this drivel left. My girlfriend went to bed because she just couldn't take it anymore. Will and I hung on because we considered ourselves to be real men who could take anything. Then, at around the 3 hour mark, just when we were on the point of eating our own hair, 6 million frogs dropped out of the sky. We were gobsmacked. Had the world gone completely stark raving mad? The point and justification of the past 3 hours of vitriol seemed to be solely that, apparently, it all really happened once. Great. Fantastic. Ninja. So what?

Summary: The frogs were a relief!
Review: I don't know if I liked this movie or not, either. The intensity of the background music and the various plots kept me on the couch watching this thing simply because I just couldn't figure out how this was going to end. The acting was excellent and the cast is well-known. I can say this, my husband and I talked about it for almost 2 hours after it was over - it seems to hit home somewhere in everyone who watches it. I literally felt a physical relief when the frogs arrived.

Summary: A compelling film but not for everyone
Review: This a movie you either love or hate. We almost stopped the movie, but then decided to give it a chance. The best actor was the girl who was molested by her father. She is a wonderful actress and did a supurb job with her part. I have such mixed feelings about this film. It was bizarre as well as compelling... and I made it through the entire film. The foul language might be offensive to some. I don't think I would see the film again...once is enough. It made me very nervous and uncomfortable at times. Where does the title "Magnolia" come from? I must have missed the connection in the movie. Also, the frogs were horrible... biblical meaning or not, I was disgusted. I can't say anything bad about the acting, because everyone did a great job, but the movie was not what I expected and it was quite long.

Summary: The movie that never ends.
Review: Actually Magnolia does end... after 3 hours and 9 nine grueling minutes. Watching Magnolia is a test in endurance. Magnolia is truly a pretentious film (in the same way American Beauty was) which is evident in its cutesy beginning and absurd ending. Sandwiched in between is a mess of a movie. From Magnolia's lack of editing and its over-the-top performances the director succeeds in simultaneously boring and frustrating this viewer. Lost in this mess of a film is the simple premise that we cannot run away from our past and our past will continue to shape our future. The director takes 3 hours and 9 minutes to make this point. The characters are supposed to be sympathetic but are not. The script is suppose to be thought provoking but it is not. Magnolia is niether thought provoking nor entertaining. The pseudo-intellects should love this movie. If you were a fan of American Beauty you should enjoy Magnolia. However, if you are an avid film goer who demands quality you should be able to expose Magnolia for what it really is... a massive (3 hour 9 minutes to be exact) waste of time.

Summary: The best film of '99
Review: The best film of 1999 and one of the best films of the year. A superb and continuously engaging and compelling mosaic of the lives of sinners, and those suffering for the sins of others. A must-see for any true fan of great films.

Summary: I wasn't prepared for this...
Review: I wasn't prepared for how deeply and profoundly I was affected by Magnolia. Much like PT Anderson's Boogie Nights I found myself not wanting to look away and possibly missing what comes next. Though the event that leads up to the film's resolution is something on the level of mythology, I couldn't help but to be drawn into the lives of the ensemble cast. From top to bottom Magnolia is one of the best most powerful movies of the past few year's

Summary: magnolia
Review: This is the first time in years I've taken the time to write a review, that's how much this film stinks. I'd give this film a 'zero' but Amazon limits the choices from 1-5. This movie is a waste of time. The beginning starts out with a review of odd circumstance, as if this work should be watched with that it mind. It doesn't help. The frogs at the end does absolutely nothing for this film, either. Artsy!? Not hardly. Tom Cruise can still play the young hot shot he's been trying to perfect in Top Gun, Jerry Maguire, et. al. I heard he got an Oscar nomination for this?? What, was this another bad year for films, like the year Fargo came out? Do yourself a favor--miss this film--use the time to dig a ditch, spread fertilizer, or clean the toilets at the airport. You'd be better off.

Unfortunately, I'm at the end of the reviews and almost no one will see this.

Summary: BILLIANT
Review: Some of the reviews im reading here are pathetic.

I keepreading that 'Cruise steals the show' that is a lot of .... I would not say that there is just one main part, each character is just as important as the next and each is focused on the same amount of time. Another thing people are saying 'its too long'. NOWAY! The length is good for this type of movie.

It is brilliant, i am actually writing this as i am watching it for the second time. Honestly i would call this a suspense film. For most other movies you always feel this 'great sensation' of suspense at the very end of the movie. But this did not happy with this movie, i felt this sensation throughout more than half of the movie. I could not look away, and if anything i was hoping it would not end.

So those are just a few things i thought i should share. I would consider this being one of my favourite movies and if you dont go see it, you have no idea what you are missing out off. YOU WILL NEVER SEE ANYTHING LIKE IT. It is a near masterpiece.

Summary: Like an exteded soap opera
Review: This film is pretty good. The performances were excellent, I especially liked Tom Cruise and Phillip Baker Hall but this has to be one of the most overlong movies of all time. It takes forever getting to where it's going but still, it's far from boring. Although it is a bit overrated.
