Summary: As Introduction to Buddhism
Review: This is a beautiful little film from Bertolucci. It is not an action film. If you are looking for Keanu Reeves blow stuff up, try Speed or Point Break. What this film is is an adventure of the human spirit. It is also a fine introduction to Buddhist thought.

Summary: KEANU REEVES IS THE ONLY GOOD THING IN THIS MOVIE
Review: The only reason why I bought this movie (from amazon.com of course) was because Mr Reeves was in it.He did an excellent job as Siddartha. I especially liked the bit when he tried to show his followers that eating was alright and they walked away disgusted at his 'hypocracy'. He's a very dedicated actor - true to his craft. The weight loss was phenominal for the fasting scene, where his hair had grown all long and matted. UNREAL. The modern day bits were totally BORING!!!!! Boring boring boring. Just fast foward through those bits.

Summary: a beautiful and touching telling of a great philosophy
Review: i think for one thing that it's one of the most beautifully shot pictures by storaro,such a wonderful texture and feeling.and as far as bertolucci's directing and writer of the story goes, its the most poignant story of life death and the important things in life like, "compassion for all beings",not just people,whales, dolphins or whatever.the score was awsomely appropriate and touching score by sakamoto.the acting by fonda and isaak had a lot more depth and feeling than most people give it credit for,and if reeves was miscast he still put forth one hell of an effort,which i think was about as good as anybody could do.there are a few parts that yank a tear every time,like my favorite speech by the character lama norbu(if thats the spelling)that's near the end at the great tree when he's talking to the children that ends with "he could see beyond the universe",and "he was then called the buddha,the awakened one".anybody with a brain or a heart should buy it,rent it,study it,or live by it.it would be a much better world.so i guess i liked it! p.s. the white kid was great too,he had a look of understanding surpassing his years.......thanks

Summary: Incredibly stupid
Review: That has to be one of the worst films I have ever seen. Although the cinematography is wonderful and the retelling of Siddartha's story is, at times, interesting, the part of the film that takes place in modern times is simply awful. The characters are either boring or painfully inconsistent; The boredom of Fonda in this role is surpassed only by the tedium of Chris Isaak. And,from what I could take from the picture, the future Lama has decided to reincarnate himself into three selfish yet English speaking children. What a disappointment, particularly from Bertolucci. I could not believe this was from the man who gave us The Last Emperor.

Review: Taken separately, the two storylines might have been interesting films, but together is just an overblown, confusing mess. Isaak and Fonda seemed passive and a bit brain dead.

Summary: A great movie with alot of underlining meanings of Buddhism
Review: At the time when my wife and I watched this movie, we hadn't a good idea about Buddhism or it's teachings. Through watching it together, we both became familiar with some of the basic teachings and were both warmed by the many scenes that happened during the movie. We both learned from many of the underlining messages, and both really enjoyed watching it. A definite must see if you are in search of 'the miraculous' as P.D. Ouspenski said of his search, or if you just want to watch a great, warm movie.

Summary: An enchanting movie introducing Buddist concepts.
Review: I recall this tale was based on a true happening, a young Seattle boy was believed to be the reincarnation of a Tibetan Buddist Yogi. As the boy and his parents are introduced to Tibetan Bhuddism, the life of the Bhuddah is also shown, beautifully, respectfully and in a way that the Western world can understand. I recommend this to all who wish to gain an appreciation of world religions and cultures.

Review: Cast: Ying Ruocheng, Alex Wiesendanger, Keanu Reeves, Chris Isaak, Bridget Fonda Little Buddha is both an enjoyable and educational movie. This movie has two story lines. One is about the quest of a group of monks, to seek out the reincarnated spirit of a great Buddhist teacher, Lama Dorje. And the other is a retelling of the story of Siddhartha, and how, having reached enlightenment, becomes the Buddha.
During the first plot line, Lama Norbu comes to Seattle in search of the reincarnation of his dead teacher, Lama Dorje. His search leads him to young Jesse Conrad, Raju, a boy from Katmandu, and an Indian girl. Together, they journey to Bhutan where the three children must undergo a test to prove which is the true reincarnation. After finding his teacher the monk then meditates and dies. The second story is about Siddhartha and how he became the Buddha. It traces his spiritual journey from ignorance to true enlightenment. Young Siddhartha lived a carefree life in the palace. His father, Kind Suddhodana, is shielding him from all unpleasantness such as elderly, sick or dying people. Gradually however, Siddhartha begins to get curious about the world out there, and one day sneaks outside the palace gate. Siddhartha comes in contact with suffering, desires, and death. This movie really opens your eyes to the basic concepts of Buddhism and the theme of reincarnation. I really liked the costumes and scenery in this movie, because they cam across well along with the theme. The music also added that extra effect needed to keep your attention throughout the movie. There was extremely good acting in this movie, especially by the children. Although this movie was well-written and well thought out, there was no emotional depth or appeal. The running time on this movie is also a little too long, which is not aided by the ragged transitions. And the characters never really connect with the audience, so the viewer's attention span is greatly tested. But overall I really enjoyed this movie and the themes it presents.

Summary: Keanu Reeves: Worst Actor EVER
Review: This movie was terrible. The story was great and I love the culture but the movie itself was horrible. The writing was cliché. Keanu Reeves was terrible, (well when ISN'T he?) The only good part of the movie was the sets and the child actors. The child who played Jesse was alright, the child that played Raj was the best, and the little girl was alright. I would not EVER recommend this movie to anyone. If you're looking for a cliché, horribly acted, Keanu Reeves movie, then this one's for you. If not, RUN from it at the movie store.
