Summary: Cinema, not Documentary...
Review: Is it full of historic inaccuracies? Sure. Is it an accurate portrayal and timeline of the events as they occured? From time to time. Was it a thoroughly intriguing journey, seen at "ground level" of what is arguably one of the most notorious "crash and burns" stories of our time? Without doubt. Did Gary Oldman and Chloe Webb accurately portray Sid and Nancy? In essence, YES. The soundtrack (provided by ex-Clash member Joe Strummer), the lighting, and settings serve to push you (I have to admit, for me sometimes unwillingly) through the fall and then plummet of Sid and Nancy. The movie was in turn serious, grotesque, cartoonish, erotic, embarassing, fascinating, and beautiful. All of it seemed appropriate. Throughout, I felt I was in a seat, right behind Sid and Nancy's, on a wild roller coaster ride with them. I just seemed inevitable that it ended the way it did. The story never leaves the rollercoaster tracks. The world just seemed to rush by faster and faster, until it is just a blur. You can't help but feel uncomfortable as you watch the lives of these two characters reduced to a hopeless,"from high to high" existence in room 100 of New York's famous Chelsea Hotel. (Watch for Iggy Pop and his wife in a quick cameo in the hallway at the Chelsea) You realize that Sid Vicious is a modern "Everyman" representing every "famous" and non-famous junkie caught in a great downward spiral. The movie provided, for me, unforgettable images. For all of the other elements, this movie is in the end a love story. These two tragic characters are left with only the deep love for each other and addiction. The love was not enough for Nancy and too much for Sid.

Review: this movie has one of the greatest love stories i've ever seen. it happens to be surreal and disurbing while we follow the two through their 21-month relationship. sid and nancy is one of the most realistic movies i've ever seen.

Summary: Never trust a junkie...
Review: This movie was amazing. Anyone who loves the sex pistols (or just Sid) will appreciate this one. It gives a great look into the 70's punk scene in Britian. Oldman does an incredible job playing the role of Sid as well as Webb's portrayal of the irritating, junkie girlfriend Nancy. It's a heartbreaker for sure, but it's definetley worth it.

Review: I love this movie! If you keep and open mind you will really appriciate this explosive and incredibly well acted movie. The CD also has a Documentary of the real Sid and Nancy and after watching the movie it's really chilling to see the real Sid and Nancy. It just shows how good the acting was in the movie. It really goes beyond acting Gary Oldman and Chloe Webb were for this movie Sid and Nancy. How they never got nominated for an Oscar is beyond me.

Summary: The best it's been seen!
Review: I was astounded after I purchased the Sid And Nancy DVD. Not only did the film live again in it's colorful prime, but the widesceen allowed me to view the film completely. In addition to the marvelous looking print, there's commentary by Chloe Webb(Nancy), Gary Oldman(Sid), Julien Temple(The Great R&R Swindle), Abbe Wool(screenwriter), among others. Probably the best commentary I've heard on a Criterion disc or any other disc for that matter. There's also actual footage of the real Sid and nancy, a telephone conversation with Sid, and a makings of documentary following writer/director Alex Cox during the making of his greatest film ever. This was the first DVD I've purchased and compared to the rest I've bought, still the best.

Review: Wonderful movie!Very hard to find in my area,unless you order online.Gary Oldman amazingly is a dead ringer (no pun intended) for Sid Vicious at the beginning (although in most of the film he looks nothing like him,except for the hair).The only I didn't like what how unclear they made his death at the end.If you don't know much about Sid,the ending is confusing.They way Nancy died was confusing,too (You can't really tell whether he stabbed her,or if she ran into the knife).But it does add mystery to the movie at the same time,which is why I rated it a 5.

Review: Gary Oldman's portrayal of Sid Vicious (né John Simon Richie) is perhaps the greatest in a long line of rock star biographies. This is ironic since the real Sid Vicious was virtually talentless, a heroin junky at twenty, possessed by a bizarre urge to smash those around him, "blessed" with the inability to feel pain, had a childish, disturbed ego and was only a replacement in one of the most reviled, mocked, despicable rock bands to have ever existed, the Sex Pistols. Who would have thought such an unsavory character would have made such a good movie? Call it the "Raging Bull" syndrome, where a less-than-exemplary figure can illuminate and entertain. You don't have to care about punk, rock'n'roll, anti-authority figures or pop culture to find this movie fascinating. Brilliantly acted, strongly directed, told with power and poetry, "Sid and Nancy," simply, rocks. Besides Oldman's powerhouse, legendary performance, Chloe Webb gives an equally amazing performance as Nancy Spungen. What a horrible, horrible, horrible person. If you have any doubt of that, check out interview footage with the real woman. Blech. Evil, foul, dangerous, nasty, classless. At least Sid was good-looking--ha, ha! Fans of punk in general, and the Pistols in particular, also will find much in this movie to admire and disdain. The clothes are perfect, from Sid's T-shirts and Ramones buttons to Johnny Rotten's syringe-festooned dinner jacket. The songs are good, although the actor playing Rotten does only a fair job singing and his accent's all wrong, as are the crowds in the performance scenes: mohawked kids that seem to be from 1981 or so (check out "24 Hour Party People" if you want to see a movie that gets the audience's look right). ULtimately, all this doesn't matter. This is a sobering, harsh film; certainly not light entertainment. I do recommend it to people who might be turned off by punk rock; believe me, this is a movie for those who like strongly-acted, character-driven films. Cox has taken a minor footnote in rock'n'roll history and blown it up into a full Romeo and Juliet tragedy. Despite Sid and Nancy's obnoxious, immature, irresponsible and hurtful lives, you'll find yourself moved at this film's conclusion. Bet on it.
