Rating: Summary: Nas and DMX do a unbelieveable job with having no acting exp Review: Nas and DMX do a unbelieveable job with having no acting experiance before this movie. Belly is a stylish urban drama about two childhood friends who stand on opposite sides of the law. A visually stunning, brutally honest film from critically acclaimed music video director Hype Williams. Method Man, T-Boz, and Taral Hicks co-star. Other movies I recommend if you like this one after you rent it or buy it is Exit Wounds with Steven Seagal and DMX as well as Ticker with Steven Seagal, Nas, and Dennis Hopper.
Rating: Summary: Belly Review: Hype Williams "Belly" is an entertaining movie. DMX (Tommy) and Nas (Sincere) who make there first acting appearances, come out strong, I have noticed a couple of other reviewers shooting them down but as far as I am concerned they both dropped stellar acting performances. Music is one reason why I really like this movie, all throughout there is blazing songs from some of my favourite artists, mostly hiphop with a bit of reggae. I particularly liked the trip to Jamaica, just felt that added to movie. Louie Rankin who played drug kingpin Lennox was an intresting character and his last stand was memorable. It seems only natural to have still relatively unknown actor Tyrin Turner (Menace II Society)in this film and though his role as Rico was small I enjoyed it, didnt actually know it was him because of his hairstyle till later. Earl Simmons acting also carried this movie for me, because he played his role well, naturally and was able to make his character change as needed. Also Hype Williams doesnt glorify whats going on, instead he shows the other side of the coin, the movie is dark, but there is a ray of hope (I dont think some people have noticed that). I like the contrast between Sincere and Tommy, at one point they seem to be seperated in that one wants to get out and the other sees no way out, when it comes down to it though both do what they have to find there out, in Sinceres case its defending his life and in Tommy's its turning a new page. This is not some great thought provoking movie, one that makes you feel as a viewer that you have learned alot, what it is however is a story of street life, friendship, relationships, drugs and much more. Glad to have "Belly" in my collection, recommend it to people who love hiphop and enjoy this kind of movie
Rating: Summary: A Gut-less movie. Review: This is about some homeboy and his friends dealing Cocaine in the hood around the nation and causing crime.A really illogical and confusing movie, but this has got to be one of the worst movies i've ever seen, i could not bear to "Stomach" this mess any loner. It rips off many great flicks like " Goodfellas", "Scarface", " Godfather" and "Casino", this would have to be Button ( or should i say " Belly" button) pushing lowest common demoninator filmmaking. The movie is only good if you like " Foolish" and " 3 Strikes", this will give you a serious Belly-Ache.

Rating: Summary: This Was Really Good!!! Review: I seen pieces of this movie a while back and I thought heck I should see this movie sometime....so I did and now I am here to share it with you all. This movie has a good plot and it's well thought out and for Hypes first directed movie(correct me if I am wrong) I think it is really good!!! It's like a rap song brought to life with witty comments and funny things that happen. It's a very hardcore movie and I think it opened up a lot of doors for rappers to get into movies....well mostly for DMX....oh yea and that Nas guy does a good job too...haha...Peace out folks!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Nas and Tboz can't act. DMX saves the day. Review: While I am not one of those people who think all rappers can't act I don't think they all can either. Here is a perfect example of a rapper who can and a rapper who can't. Nas is one deminsional and cardboard as the anti-hero. He constantly talks about going back to Africa? Huh?! I think we are suppose to belive by his unexplained desire to go back to the motherland we are suppose to believe that he is deep - his character is as deep as a thimble. DMX however, saddle with a truly bad script and a sad and misguided cinematographer rise above the mire and puts in a truly credible performance. Tboz is unsympathtic as Nas' girlfriend. These characters want you to feel compassion for them because they are too lazy to use their skills for anything other than drug dealing, the tired writing doesn't make you feel anything for any of the characters. They try to top the infamous ending of Scarface with a nonsensical killing of a jamacian drug kingpin by some mysterious painted woman. Its over the top and unbelievable in its violence. My husband likes it, but its becuase he thinks its funny and this isn't a comedy. Don't waste your time or money. Catch it on cable if you just have to see it.
Rating: Summary: Inspirational Review: The speech at the end nails what I want in this world. Sure, alot of people don't want to hear about it, or just don't understand. Ignorance is bliss, and so on...
Rating: Summary: Not all dat bad nor great Review: Well hey, I gotta give credit to X and Nas tryin to act, but can't they do a film that's more positive? I mean I'm tired of seein drugs troughout the whole movie, and they come up with a weak message at the end. DMX is like a straight up ryde or die do or die thug in this movie, where Nas tried to send a message in da whole movie and does a pitiful attemt. And the script is poor as well. But at times, it's good 2 see a nice black hood movie, but in my opinion, a menece 2 society was much better. I suggest a rental, or see it on T.V. or record it rather than buy. If u want a good hood movie, get Menece 2 society, or Boyz in da hood.
Rating: Summary: May be the best Black movie ever. Review: A searing look at Black urban negritude, hope, and despair. One man's journey toward mastery of his life, another's sad descent downward, toward ultimate redemption? Two brothers, and many lost souls in and out of urban and suburban worlds. A masterpiece. Visually superior; there is no other movie out there that can even touch its color, images, and texture.
Rating: Summary: Belly Review: This movie is alright. It's pretty much like watching one long Hype Williams video, especially the beginning. None of the people in the movie can really act, and the movie is short on plot. Yet, there are some elements of the movie that are worth watching. The music being one, the Jamaican scenes another, and some wonderful body shots of DMX. Overall, it's cool. Nothing special like "Menace 2 Society" or anything, but it's cool.
