Rating: Summary: I Loved This Movie Review: This was a great movie i thought. Denzel Washington gave a great performance and you really started to feel bad for him. You start to think that this is really happenning because of the realism.
Rating: Summary: heartfelt, sincere... Review: John Q (D. Washington)'s son collapses on the ground...now needing a heart transplant and no one is able or will pay for it. "John" works and is a full-time employee, however was forced to work part time hours. In the meantime his insurance is changed without him knowing, therefore his insurance will not cover nearly enough for a heart transplant (his insurance will only cover 20G of the 250,000G+ needing to cover it). Because he works and he is with his wife and because he has insurance, the state will not help.He is at his wits ends and finally decides to do something about it and take over the hospital. With no intentions of hurting or harming anyone. And the hostages inside soon find that out. His only demand is for his son to be on the donor's list. I enjoyed the film immensely. Very heartfelt, very sincere and deserves to be lookedat. With our insurance companies and HMOs the way that they are in this country, so many things are not paid for and yet millions of dollars go into insurance, etc. The only downside to this movie is that I hope a few people don't get unhealthy ideas.
Rating: Summary: Best movie ever! Review: I think that John Q was great,it was like so real.It was a sad and happy film. I think that the fact that he was willing to give his life for his son was a great idea to put in the movie. The movie was so intense and made you think about every detail. Almost everybody in the theater was choking when at the end Mickey said "goodbye" and John said "it's not goodbye it's see you later".From my point of view I thought that John Q was the best movie I had seen in a very long time. In other words it is the best movie ever!
Rating: Summary: John Q fails to adequately address our health care dilemma Review: There is no doubt but that Director John Cassavetes has the best of intentions. The health care crisis in the United States challenges everyone of us. Denzel Washington portrays John Q, a blue collar worker who lacks the financial wherewithal to pay for his young son's immediate need of a heart transplant. The hospital administrator (Ann Heche) has the thankless task of explaining the reality of the boy's predicament to the dumbfounded parents. She might want to help, but money doesn't grow on trees. John Q. is an honest man who works hard and always plays by the rules. How could this be happening to his family? The heart surgeon (James Woods) has already donated his own services and can do more. It is obvious that the boy will likely die in the very near future. John Q pulls a gun on both the hospital staff and their patients. Robert Davall is the police hostage negotiator who hopes to avoid bloodshed. This is where the story truly starts to fall apart. We are confronted with a man who decides to take the law into his own hands. He seems willing to risk the safety of other human beings. After all, how many lives are endangered merely by the violent closing of a major emergency facility? If John Q. is permitted to break the law, will this not encourage others to do likewise? There is much discussion between the gun toting father and his hostages regarding the plight of the poor in receiving minimal health care. However, these dialogues don't begin to sufficiently deal with the incredible complexities of this gut wrenching issue. Our heart strings are tugged at, but our intellects are left unsatisfied. Is "John Q" worth seeing? I'm afraid that it deserves a mere three stars. Only the gung ho fans of its star studded cast should go out of their way. This movie will be long forgotten by the time the next Oscar nominations are considered.
Rating: Summary: Very moving look at a father's love for his son. Review: I almost didn't go see this movie because of a review saying that it was not that good. Well, they were right. It wasn't good, it was great! Denzel never disappoints. His portrayal of a caring, loving and hardworking father and husband is both Oscar worthy and heart-wrenching. Kimberly Ellise is great in her supportive role as Denzel's wife. I was very moved by the theme of love between father and son. Although the dilemma with HMO's was something that needed to be exposed, I still think the heart of the movie was "love."
Rating: Summary: PAINFUL FOR ANYONE WITH A HEART Review: I am a true Denzel Washington fan so I have to start by mentioning that his performance was as usual, stellar. Washington has the rare ability to use his facial expressions so vividly and accurately to express his feelings as the character he is portraying...almost to the point of not even having to say anything at all. As a parent of a small child, however I found this movie to be too painful to watch. I got through it, but just barely. Bring lots of tissues, and a strong shoulder on which to bawl your eyes out. I would not recommend this movie to anyone with a child. It is just too difficult to imagine.
Rating: Summary: Denzels done it again Review: Denzel has made another hit. this movie was all kinds of things drama, comedy, action, family. it had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next like if john would die, if mike would get his heart fixed. robert duvall did an excellent performance along with ray liotta and ed griffin. i reccomend this movie to everyone. the best denzel movie ever!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: great movie Review: John Q is a story about a father trying to keep his son alive while playing baseball his son falls on the field and later finds out he nned a heart transplant and his insurince company won't cover the cost of the surgery. Every angry about that Danzel trys to find a way to pay for the surgery that his son needs so he takes the hosiptal hostage. The reason I enjoyed the movie is because it shows how much a parent would go to save their childs life. Danzel gives a great proformance as John Q. So if you want to see a great family movie i recomend this one for you.
Rating: Summary: A Good Tear Jerker Review: I liked the movie but I am a realist. There is no way one person could have held the entire ER with one gun and not be overtaken by all the people standing around, especially when John Q is talking on the phone with his back to the group. Other than that, it was a real tear-jerker. You could hear sniffling all over the auditorium. While I feel sorry for the John Q character's situation, I hope this movie doesn't encourage the type of behavior he displayed.
