Rating: Summary: Had me dancin' on the ceiling Review: I saw the film at the movies 5 times and have probably watched it 20 times since buying the DVD! This film is awesome and analyzes temptation which fashions Buns and Knowledge's life. Everyone should see this movie because it is about life not just gangsters or some other stereotypical evaluation of this movie.
Rating: Summary: THE MOVIE WAS ALL THAT Review: BY. BABY GIRL. I THOUGHT THE MOVIE WAS THE BOMB. NAS CHARACTER SHOWED INTEGRITY. HYPE WILLIAMS CAN DIRECT MUSIC VIDEOS JUST AS WELL AS MOVIES. MUCH LOVE. YOU HAVE TO SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT. NAS DID IT UP AND SO DID DMX.
Rating: Summary: The movie was tight. Review: BY. BABY GIRL Nas, DMX, Taral Hicks, and T-Boz did it up. Everyone should see this movie. Nas was the best. His character showed excitment and so did DMX. Much LOVE
Rating: Summary: DMX blows it up Review: DMX and NaS follow in the footsteps of 2-Pac and become actors. There acting is good but 2-Pac is still a better actor.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS ONE OF THOSE MOVIES YOU ONLY NEED TO SEE ONCE. Review: THE PREVIEWS OF THE MOVIE DIDNT CONVINCE ME, WHICH MADE ME NOT WANT TO SEE THE MOVIE RIGHT AWAY. IT WAS THE CONVINCING OF SOMEONE ELSE THAT MADE ME GO. AND MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, I ENJOYED IT! THE STARRING ACTORS SUCH AS NAS, DMX, AND T.HICKS PLAYED THEIR PARTS; BUT WHEN I HEARD THAT TION WATKINS WASNT THERE TO REHEARSE WITH EVERYONE ELSE,IT SHOWED. I COULD'VE PLAYED THE PART JUST AS BAD. OTHER THAN THAT THE MOVIE WILL BE ADDED TO MY COLLECTION AT HOME. HYPE DID MUCH BETTER THAN MOST ON HIS FIRST TRY AT THE "BIG SCREEN".
Rating: Summary: Probably one of the best black films of 1999. Review: This is a masterpiece directed by one of the unknown directers who will soon be noticed for a long time. Its got Nas, DMX, T-boz, Method man and many more known stars. Its wicked and if you haven't seen it you better and if you don't you missed out.
Rating: Summary: The movie was absolutely pointless! Review: The movie was not good at all and I think that it stunk! The only thing it has going for it is it's all star cast! Definitely a thumb down! And don't player hate because I'm Zela from No limit and I love rap/hip-hop baby! Mad shout out to my boo Tyson!
Rating: Summary: A gritty masterpiece that is full of eye candy. Review: A masterpiece that is full of eye candy and good old violence. Hype Williams will be a huge star in the future. A landmark achievement in terms of camera angles and visual representation.
Rating: Summary: da bomb Review: I saw the movie and it is the bomb DMX and nas are great they do a great job Belly is the best movie.
Rating: Summary: Hype Dog gets an A for effort, but BELLY comes up short. Review: Queens, N.Y. is the setting in this somber tale of two friends stopping at nothing to get dough in the hood. Rap artists Nas Escobar and DMX star as Sincere and Tommy Bundy along, with R&B singer T-Boz of the group TLC and Taral Hicks as their respective wifeys. Belly explodes on to the seen with a fabulous first scene which looks and feels more like a hip-hop video rather than an urban drama. Mr. Williams proves once again that he stands alone atop the video world with his eye-catching cinematography. Sincere and Tommy walk into a club with the honies bangin and the music pumpin, while the lights give them the look of being in a photo-negative while they walk in slow motion. They both walk into a stall in the restroom, and in a scene stolen from the classic Godfather scene in which Al Pacino blows away a Mob Boss and a police commissioner in a small restauraunt in Little Italy, they grab some heat from the stalls and start wetting the place up and grabbing the clubs proceeds. The next thing you know they peel off in a dropped S500 Benz with sparkling chrome wheels, dark tints and paper thin tires. Unfortunately that is pretty much the whole movie. Hype's downfall was trying to cover too much ground in his rookie effort. If he stuck strictly with the thug genre, this would have been a classic. He tied in subjects such as a Jamaican drug-lord, a journey back to Africa, and the teachings of the Mulim faith leaving you to abandon the reality of this flick. Our two protagonists chain smoke blunts of chocolate in every other scene leaving you with the idea that their acting might have been a little better if they filled those blunts with fake gunja. Nas was especially burnt and you could tell that he and Williams are smoking buddies because Nas seemed to play himself. However Earl DMX Simmons does have his moments showing similar charisma to that of the late Tupac Shakur at times. Ms. Hicks tries as well but comes up short, and especially bad was T-Boz, who in one scene sees her boyfriend Nas shot and proceeds to do one of the worst acting jobs I've ever seen. Method Man also appears as a thugged out mercenary with riddles but it's hard to believe that this joker is an assassin. All in all, if you're a hip-hop fan it's worth it just for the haunting cinematography in the Belly of N.Y. as well as the plethera of your favorite artists, but obviously, by the gross receipts many people, even many hardcore hip-hop fans passed this one up. To his credit, Williams encountered many obstacles dealing with Artisan entertainment who objected to many of his desires along with constraining the film's budget. If William's hands were untied, he had the opportunity to make movie history. Unfortunately for all Hip-Hop fans around the world Hype is not atop the movie world. He did show flashes of potential though but as usual, it's a story of what could've been.
