Summary: This movie IS the original sin
Review: After not liking the previews for Original Sin I decided not to watch it. I had to sit through the torture that was watching this film because it was movie night with my co-workers, and the movie was picked by the person who's turn it was to pick the movie. I think he expected hot scenes with Angelina Jolie because of the title, especially since he did not bother to find out what it was about. All I can say is that although I understood what the film was trying to convey the vehicle by which the msg was being delivered was boring, slow, and sometimes what they said did not make sense to what was happening. In some parts, it was as if the words did not carry as much conviction as needed for whatever was happening at the time.

I would have liked to walk out of the movie, as did the two people sitting besides me, however we stick to whatever movie was chosen by the "movie picker of the week." So as one of the people who watched the movie with me had to say: Sitting there not being able to leave was like being killed internally by microscopic fire ants, slowly and tiny bites taking you apart piece by piece....

Summary: Terrible Remake of Truffaut's "Mississippi Mermaid"
Review: Maybe they would have been ok with this remake of François Truffaut's "Mississippi Mermaid" if they hadn't also decided to rewrite it as well. Where I am especially insulted is that it was rewritten so as to dumb the whole film down so that I, as the "average" American, would find it less quirky and original than "Mermaid" and more like typical Hollywood drek written for the masses for big box office. I don't think they got their big box office (thankfully) but this is as unpleasant to watch as "Mermaid" was a delight. A brother to the female lead (Jolie) has been written into the script as a villain and the film goes downhill from the point the brother first appears in the film. Banderas and Jolie both have acute problems with picking good film projects for their considerable talents, a trend that unfortunately continued for both of them with this film. Finally, in any mail order bride book or movie, did you ever think you'd end up with Antonio Banderas or Jean Paul Belmondo as a husband or Angelina Jolie or Catherine Deneuve as a wife? I certainly didn't. I was willing to go with that preposterous notion because "Mermaid" was so good but wasn't willing to go with it here. Really, we'd all be mail order brides and grooms if we could get these kinds of results through placing a mail order. My advice: buy "Mississippi Mermaid" instead.

Summary: A guilty pleasure
Review: I ended up seeing this DVD based on an Amazon review, and I was not disappointed in the least. The film definately fell into the "so bad it's good" category, and I could not turn away from it. Banderas, whom I've loved since his Almodovar days, was wonderfully enticing and convincing as the obsessed lover, and Jolie was devilishly wicked (reminiscent of the Milady character from the "Three Muskateers," but with more of a heart). The location was lavish, the costumes were gorgeous, and the story had some nice surprises. I'd actually recommend this film and will probably see it again. :)

Summary: One bizarre, guilty pleasure!
Review: This is the kind of movie you should watch when there aren't any distractions around, because if you pay attention, it really sucks you in. I thought Angelina and Antonio had absolutely scorching chemistry, and in this movie you get to see plenty of both of them (and I do mean plenty). Yes I know a thousand of these kind of movies exist, still I found myself in total suspension, never knowing what would happen next, never knowing just how far and how low "Luis"'s obsession with "Julia/Bonnie" would take him. From the moment Luis looked into her eyes, he began to be filled with the poison that was Julia. Once a sensible, prosperous coffee plantation owner, as he became more entangled with Julia, the more she tried to free herself from him, which only fueled his obsession with her. And how about "Billy", a ghost from Julia's past? He was also obsessed with her and hell-bent on keeping her addicted to him (or should I say, supporting him). I have no qualms at all with the sex scenes, but I could have done without the scene with "Billy" and "Luis" kissing, and I thought the blood and vomit was totally out of place in this kind of movie...it really didn't need those kind of shock tactics to keep viewers interested. Also, the scenes with Julia/Bonnie and the monk in her prison cell were kind of creepy. All in all, this is a worthwhile rainy day rental.

Summary: Yes, it is as bad as you've heard!
Review: Wow, this one is right down there with Showgirls and Ishtar. Bad script and bad acting usually don't get you far. Why an academy award winning actress has to degrade herself to this degree with sex scenes that are completely not neccessary I don't know. As long as she wants to take her clothes off, I'll watch but at least choose a decent movie to "perform" in. The lack of chemistry between Antonio and Angelina is amazing considering the explicit nature of the scenes.

Summary: Had to see it more than once.
Review: So now I own it! Forget Antonio, and that's not easy to do, the lushness of the Cuban plantation and the wonderful music do a great deal to hold this movie together. True, Luis seems a little less wordly than you would expect a rich, prostitute user of pre revelutionary Cuba to be, but Antonio is able to carry that off. One of the most believiable scenes is Luis, drunk and longing for Julia, is bent on finding her to kill her. You hope that he does! The story is a bit strained but I grew up on this kind of love hungary "film noir" movie. All in all, it is intertaining and isn't that what this is all about? If we wnated plausable stories we wouldn't be watching a to be intertained but to be educated.
I think this movie did educate, don't get me wrong, the love scenes between Julia and Luis were VERY educational and believable, i'm sure many would have loved to change partners with Antonio or Anjolina! I picked up something new every time I saw it. The DVD is what is needed to watch this movie and appreciate what the story is all about. One last thing, did anyon, besides me, pick up on who is singing the song at the end?

Summary: A very sexy movie
Review: Being a huge Angelina Jolie fan, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this movie. I wasn't disappointed. This movie, while far fetched, was very enjoyable. Angelina Jolie's character, Julia, is cunning and sexy. And umm, YUM, Antonio Banderas is in the film too, what more can I say? These two actors provide the sexual tension lacking from many of todays movies. If you are looking for a true to life movie, this probably isn't for you. Also, if you are opposed to some flesh, this movie definitely isn't for you. But if you are looking for a sexy escape from everyday life, Original Sin may be just what you are looking for.

Summary: This Movie Was Bad
Review: The only thing that was remotly good about this movie was Angelina Jolie getting naked countless times over. whenever the movie slowed down (which it often did) the movie just had her get naked and they thought it would save it. Such a horrible stupid, corny film.
