Summary: A dark look at a hidden agenda and evil turned pure
Review: Tony Kaye's "American History X" is a work of art. It is one of the more brilliant stories of our time. However, the story does not make the movie. The story is simple. The procedure is flawless. Everything in this film connects so perfectly that it makes me wonder how it did not achieve more critical appeal. From start to finish, there is neither a wasted scene, nor poor portrayal of Kaye's idea. Everything fits as it should. For starters, the movie opens and closes on a beach. Nothing is unimportant. After close viewing, the first beach is in B&W and the same beach later is shown in vibrant color. All the while it is accompanied by a beautiful score that not only shows the dark life of our hero, but also the beauty of nature and life in essence. When you think about it, black and white is so ironic for the memories of our pro-Caucasian, anti-Negro neo-Nazi. That in itself seems to be hidden brilliance. The dialog is realistic and never overacted. Ed Norton should have

been nominated for best actor for his role in this film. You can see all the emotions of his character just by looking in his eyes. Edward Furlong proves to us that he CAN act. Also, AHX has some of the best cinematography that can be found in these days of flashy camera angles. The cinematography actually makes sense in portraying the drama and seems necessary in all of its usage. Where was the academy when this movie was up for nominations? Apparently kissing up to big whigs like Cameron and Spielberg. Not that I dislike them, they are just overrated. AMX is WAY underrated. By far one of the best films of the year. Check it out.

Summary: This film is a MUST!
Review: American History X is a MUST see. This film is very graphic, griping, and will open your eyes to some of the causes of hate that is flourishing in this world. After viewing this film, you cannot help but think about it . . . constantly . . . for days afterwards. It is THAT powerful. Edward Norton gives a stellar performance and you can FEEL his rage, his hate. You actually feel the skinhead that he has become. His time in jail allows him to transform his hate into compassion and love and it is ironic how this is actually accomplished. In fact, all of the actors were excellent in that you could "feel" what they were going through as well. The casting was excellent.

I would love to see this film as a mandatory requirement for all students in this country - I believe it would have the powerful effect of reversing someone's hate and/or prejudices.

Summary: Childhood innocence examined
Review: A frighteningly realistic film about redemption from evil. Sadly, redemption is not enough, as is clear from the (predictable) ending. The dinner table scene with Derek's father was one of the best of the movie- it showed how someone becomes infected with racism in a seemingly harmless way. This film is a keeper...

Summary: WHO ' S BAD ?
Review: Don't get me wrong ! I sincerely think that the subject of AMERICAN HISTORY X is one of the most important matter to discuss nowadays. I cannot stand the arguments of any extremist political or social groups, leftist or ultra-conservative. But we're here to give an opinion about a movie and not to have a philosophical meeting about morals. So, in my humble opinion, AMERICAN HISTORY X is a very poor movie with a great subject and outstanding actors.

The script of AMERICAN HISTORY X is a collection of clichés one can find in thousands of Hollywood movies since the thirties. Just imagine, in the character played by Edward -DEREK- Norton, James Cagney or Humphrey Bogart. After having spent three years in jail, Bogie comes back home and realizes his younger brother has become a potential public danger. With the help of his parole officer, he'll try to save him from the streets. Or imagine Gary Cooper, a former hitman, coming back home only to discover that his son, let's say - Montgomery Clift -, is the fastest gunman of the town. Will he be able to convince Monty that duels are a no-future occupation ?

Good subjects don't necessarily make good movies specially if there's only a yes man to direct. So, if you want to study the evolution of the right-wing neo-nazis groups in today America, it would be a good idea to see a few documentaries on the subject, and there are pretty good ones to be seen, rather than to buy AMERICAN HISTORY X.

A pretentious DVD.

Review: This movie will leave you thinking, it will leave you stunned, and if you are a Neo-Nazi it will make you think twice about being in that crowd, This was without a doubt the best film of 1998. I highly recommend this masterpiece.

Summary: A Movie that makes History...
Review: This movie is so splendid, and so profound, that while watching it you can't help but get totally immersed in it. Edward Norton gives the BEST performance of his life, as a neo-nazi fresh out of prison, and the story of how he got there. His younger brother (Edward Furlong, Terminator 2), has been drawn into his older brothers world of hatred, and it is Norton's job to stop it. So get immersed in this splendid movie.

Review: I thought this would probably be another "perfect world" movie filled w/ liberal propaganda, but, rather, it simply gave us a look into the nature & reality of hatred. I still think a lot of this is blown out of preporsion regarding all of the racial hatred. I just don't buy it

Edward Norton is incredible, just as he was in Primal Fear; I think this is one of the most powerful acting jobs in recent memory. And I agree, the b&w shot of him proceeding his murders is one I won't ever forget.

I could have gone w/ a little less moral at the end, but overall this is an excellent film.

Review: If you are looking for a story about white supremacy, then this is the movie for you. If you are looking for a story about how different views drive families apart, then this is the movie for you. Or if you are looking to just watch a good movie, then this is the movie for you. American History X is one of the best movies I have ever seen, and Edward Norton and Edward Furlong compliment each other tremendously. Don't be frightened by the topic of this movie, because once you watch it you will be glad you did.

Summary: What A Movie
Review: This is by far the best movie that i own on dvd and i own a heck of a lot. Edward Norton was so amazing and i can not beleave that he did not win the acadamy award. This movie is not for people faint of heart it contains quite a bit of racisal slurs also there is a rape scene and some other nudity, and finally it is very i repeat very violent but all tastfully done. There is one scene in this movie that i did not like as much as the rest of the scenes in the movie, the scene was when Edward Norton curbs a black man. It is very disturbing but i do beleave it is very important to the film. Enjoy I guarantee that you will!

Summary: A moving Movie
Review: I saw this film last year. I wrote a review to say how much I loved it. At the end of the review I put that I thought Norton's character needed more redemption. However watching again made me realize, it's just right. His character is so believable. If the change had been too sudden, it wouldn't have been. I had a video night last night and we watched the film, now most of my friends are going to buy it. I think its's wonderful, so deep and touching. The film has so many levels. It is visually stunning.
