Summary: Cary, Audrey and Stanley- All together and what a treat!
Review: As an ardent admirer of the films of director Stanley Donen, I cannot to begin to tell you what a genuine treat it was to hear his commentary with screenwriter Peter Stone on this DVD. It is rare privilege, to be able to view "Charade", a film made 36 years ago, while listening to two of its main contributors sharing their behind the scenes thoughts and memories. Of course, let us not forget the extraordinary, delightful pairing of Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn (need I say more?)and strong supporting cast of with James Coburn, Ned Glass, George Kennedy and Walter Matthau in this classic film. I have no complaints on this one, except I could have listened to much more of the recollections of Mr Donen and Mr.Stone

Summary: I second the first review!
Review: Amazon did indeed refund me for this DVD, but as above, be aware. This DVD is made from the same old lousy public domain print that you see on PBS every few months. This is a great film, and deserves a great copy. I'll be ordering the Criteria version soon (after x-mas shopping), and hope that lives up to expectations. This one doesn't even deserve to be on videotape!

Summary: Charade
Review: Bottom line is you get what you pay for, DO NOT BUY this version, it wasw made from a very bad copy of the movie! The ones that have played about a million time trough a projector. Spend the money and get the criterion version.

Review: If Alfred Hitchcock had directed a film with Audrey Hepburn, this would have been it! Very funny, stylish, and oh-so-Audrey. Entertaining. A real classic.

Summary: Top-drawer treatment for a top-flight movie
Review: After years of cruddy off-brand VHS transfers, CHARADE finally gets its due as Criterion comes through with a dandy DVD sure to please the many fans of this caper comedy.

The transfer is sparkling, and the commentary by Stanley Donen and Peter Stone is both informative and hilarious.

You can't go wrong with this one!

(Please note: this review applies only to the wonderful CRITERION edition of this movie, and not to the cheap hackjob versions that keep surfacing periodically.)

Summary: Lack of Closed Captions ruins this title!
Review: Sorry charlie, "English Subtitles" aren't useful. Closed Captions have been a standard for years for a reason. This titles lacks them on DVD-- while the MCA VHS version has them intact.

Criterion has forgotten the most basic home video feature (after picture and sound).

Summary: BEWARE!
Review: Do not buy this DVD! This is a very bad print and the master contains video drop outs. If I can't return it for credit and buy the Criterion version, I will burn it and chalk it up as a reminder never to buy a low cost version of anything worth watching. I am sorry, Criterion, I will never waste my money on lower quality versions again.

Summary: FABULOUS!
Review: I LOVE THIS MOVIE! It is a classic. Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant are perfect together. This flick is a great combination of romance, comedy, and mystery.

Summary: Well crafted star vehicle
Review: The Criterion DVD is an EXCELLENT restoration. Well worth the money compared to the quality of other transfers. A witty script and great star chemistry from Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant.

Summary: CRITERION--YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN!
Review: I just watched this DVD and listened to the commentary. This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and it's such a treat to see it with the great picture and sound restored. The director's and writer's commentary was insightful and funny. I think commentary tends to be more interesting if there are two or more people discussing the movie. The playful banter (at least I hope it was playful) between Donen and Stone held my interest for the full two hours. Keep up the good work Criterion! I'll keep buying them as long as you keep making them. Anybody know what's next from Criterion?
