Summary: I LOVE MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS!
Review: I personally think that Meet Me In St. Louis is the best show on this earth. If you don't have it, get it! There's Margaret O'Brien, who is such a charmer as little Tootie and Judy Garland is in love with the boy next door. I'm eight and I think this is the best show on earth. It's got great songs too! I love Tootie!

Summary: Magic on screen
Review: This is one of those films which I had the pleasure of seeing in my younger days, and to this very day, even though I've seen it once, it still remains in your heart and mind. Every song and character remains loveable and heartfelt. You feel as though you're transported to St Louis at the turn of the century - this is one of those rare films that does indeed bring you back in time and you can almost smell the scents and taste the decor. Judy Garland proves again and again why she is a legend. Every time I hear the song "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" I immediately think of this film and Judy Garland. It is Judy Garland alone which makes Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas my all time favorite Christmas song, as well as one of those all time sadly/sentimental happy songs. Gorgeous and magical film making.

Summary: The greatest American musical ever made!
Review: This remains my all time favorite musical, and one of my favorite movies (my all time fave film is The Wizard of Oz). Judy Garland, the greatest performer in film history, turns the world around with her portrayal as Esther, the proper-song belting-boy crazy daughter in the Smith family. Another eye catcher is Margaret O' Brien, who won a special Academy Award at the age of 7 for her role as Tootie, the youngest child of the Smith family and the mischevious charmer who won the heart of America in this classic. The greatest film ever done by Judy Garland, and the best musical in history! A classic!

Summary: Beautiful clothes but.....
Review: People actually WANT to wear those corsets? That is the part that shocks most of my friends that I have introduced the movie to, if only for health reasons. It just shows fasion victims have been around for ages.

I love everything about this movie; the singing, the dancing, the acting, the way the ladies in the family manipulate poor old Mr Smith. Another comment that I have had is about how the kids are allowed out onto the streets unsupervised at night (oh for our lost innocence). Buy it, Watch it. Love it.

Summary: Not the same
Review: They completely took a good classic play, and turned it upside-down, pulling out such classic songs as "Whenever I'm With You", and "The Banjo". They also rewrote too much of the play for judy garland.

Summary: A delight for all ages.
Review: I totally agree with the lady talking about how girls knew how to dress back then etc. I love those dressed they wore with the slim waist, billowing skirts and lovely bonnets with beautiful colours. I wish people would still dress like that! And I wish men would still open doors for ladies and be the gallant people we see in all those old movies. What has happened to our men! They've become rude and ungallant and taken to wearing baggy shorts and earrings. Those old dresses rocked! But seriously, women's lib hooey. I think it's the men who need liberating.

Summary: A Timeless Masterpiece
Review: Not only is this one of Judy Garland's best films, it's one of the best musicals ever. If you have an old video, buy this new one, with the restored sound and picture. Just beautiful.

No one before or since matches Judy Garland in this film. As in "The Wizard Of Oz" Judy's performance is so perfect it's easy to overlook with such a great supporting ensemble.

Classic songs, beautiful Vincente Minnelli direction, and Judy Garland at her "MGM Musicals Queen" peak! - who could ask for more?

Even people who don't care for Garland love this film - she's perfect. And so gorgeous to look at and hear.

A must have for anyone wanting a film that has everything for the whole family and is a perfect escape from today's crazy world.

Summary: A beautiful timeless movie loved by people of all ages.
Review: Meet Me In St. Louis is a lovely film, based on episodes in the life of a large family living in early 20th Century St. Louis at the time of the World's Fair. Judy Garland and Margaret O'Brien are both amazing in this film and are very strongly supported by the rest of the cast.

My 6 year old daughter is hooked on it too now (and I guess that's about the age when I first saw it) and we often watch it together for a treat. I have watched it countless times and am always happy to watch it again.

Meet Me in St. Louis is essentially a "pastoral" musical that celebrates the values of small town America, a popular theme in MGM musicals, especially those directed by Minelli. The so-called delights of the big metropolis New York are exposed as undesirable and compared unfavorably with the simple "purer" family life of St. Louis - which is a big city too but "doesn't seem big, out here where we live".

But it is not just a chocolate box movie, in spite of the beautiful music, romantic theme and gorgeous costumes and photography. Of course it is full of great musical set pieces - such as The Trolley Song and Skip to My Lou - but it has many "dark episodes" as well. The best is when Vincente Minelli borrows very sucessfully from the horror genre for the Halloween scene, and the dark disturbing scene when the snow people are decapitated by Tudy who would rather destroy them rather than leave them behind for strangers. Also, I'm not sure what the two nuns at the Fair mean in the final scenes, but I'm sure they are significant because the camera focuses on them rather than the lead characters who are actually talking in that scene. Maybe I'll need to watch it a few hundred times more to decide.

Summary: This is a MUST-SEE for all ages!!!!
Review: I love the music. The dancing and the romance. The costumes are one of a kind and are so beautiful to look at. I wish alot that we as women weren't into the whole women's lib thing. Yes we are equals to men but boy-oh-boy they sure knew how to dress to catch a "beau's" attention then. I myself love to lounge around in sweats and watch TV but I'd give a pretty penny to be wined and dined in one of those dresses Judy wore. (The green and white striped one with puffed sleeves) with the 14 inch waist. It's so old-fashioned but so romantic. Men knew how to treat a lady THEN but seem to have lost the knack. Overall I give the movie a 20 out of a 10. I love it and so did my daughter.(She's all of 11 going on 30) I'm trying to teach her that guys don't have to wear the baggy pants and 500 earrings with a tongue piercing to be "cool" It's oh so wonderful to be treated as something special and never to lose it.I want what every mother wants for ALL of her children: Above all peace with GOD and a family to be proud of and be cherished by the people you love most:i.e......your family!! Thanx for listening

Vic
