Summary: I read the book
Review: I read the book to this and it was much better (Of course), but it's about time I see Wesley Snipes play in a movie that's actually descent, and not some super hero (blade). He needs more good roles like he had in "New Jack City", and even "Jungle Fever". But this movie was really good. He did an excellent job in this one. Saana Lathan did a wonderful job too. I like her. I hope she does more movies in the future.

Review: I think that this could've been a better book if they stuck more the storyline of the book. The book has the story taking place in the 80s. Also I never pictured Wesley Snipes as Franklin. I think there should've been a younger actor portrayed as Franklin.

Summary: Mis-cast...
Review: I tried to dig the movie, but I couldn't get over the way HBO mis-cast Franklin. I am sure those who read the book prior to watching the movie will agree. I can see where hbo was trying to go with this, but they sadly missed the mark.
Sanaa as usual, was a joy to behold...

Summary: Great Chemistry
Review: I was really pleased to see this movie on HBO. Wesley Snipes and Sanaa Latham are great together. They give off just the right energy to portray the tedious edgy love affair they have in the movie. Franklin (Wesley) is great as a hard working blue collar worker who falls in love with a beautiful mocha brown uptown girl, Zora (Sanaa). Franklin's character has just the right amount of anger as not to make him seem abusive and overwhelming. He comes across more misunderstood. Zora comes across well as a woman who loves her man deeply but may not always understand the sensitivities that make him who is. An XLNT movie to watch. It is good a second time.

Summary: Desperate Acts
Review: I won't give a long drawn out account on why this movie was bad for me, but one thing sticks out in my mind. The characters tried too hard to me. I love Sanna Latham, but it seems like she was forcing herself to convince us that she was really romantically involved with Wesley Snipes. With all the ups and downs of their relationship, I was praying that they just chalk the relationship up as a loss and move on.
After awhile it just get tiring ,you know, like a real relationship.
I much prefer the book. This movie doesn't hold a candle to the book. The book is as real as it gets. Pretty much how things are today.

Summary: Wesley Snipes was a BAD choice for Sanaa's co-star...
Review: I'm not a huge Snipe's fan anyway, but I actually found myself turning away during their love scenes. Wesley just doesn't have the appeal that makes it believable that Zora would fall for him in the first place.
Other than that, I thought the movie was okay. I really felt for Zora, I think Sanaa did a good job portraying the emotions and frustrations of that character. But again, it was hard to believe that she would fall for Wesley to begin with!

Summary: Disappearing Acts
Review: If you've ever been in love with someone who was perhaps a bit out of your league and you foundd yourself constantly trying to compensate for that, then you know the rest. Wesley Snipes gives a powerful performance as a man who is a bit over his head and in love with Zora (Sanaa Lathan). Things heat up when the stakes get higher. Zora is pregnant, Franklin's out of work and their class differences become even more apparent when Zora just wants a night out on the town and Franklin just can't seem to get his act together. When the going gets tough, Franklin does a disappearing act of his own and Zora's on her own....this sounds like a familiar scenerio. The story is familiar but the ending is better. It looks like the family will make it after all. That's one for single mothers. If you're looking for a good black lover story, then "Disappearing Acts" is one that will leave you with a warm feeling inside and a positive feeling about love relationships.

Review: It is happening that when African Americans make films depicting themselves you get outstanding performances! Gone are the days of jive blackened white movies. Kudos to Wesley Snipes for a job well done.

Summary: Great movie lots can relate to...what happened to Wesley?
Review: Now I didn't read the book...but I saw the movie...but I am sure the book was better...but I still liked this movie.
I feel that so many people can relate to the characters in this movie, it's like at times I could see some of my friends in some of the characters as well as myself.
It really touched my soul on the characters, Zora struggling to do her music thing then frustrated about the man she loves...getting 'jerked' by Q-Tip's character trying to cut her demo...I know sooooo many people like that, black and white. Frankyln struggling to get a steady job trying to get into the Union that's the realist right there!
I really felt for him at times...not having a big education at times can be a b*tch...and this lack of education at times crossed over into the way he acted and thought. The same way I felt sorry for him was the same way I was mad when he was taking out alot of unnecessary frustration, anger and ignorance on Zora. Zora was trying to lead a semi perfect life drama free, Franklyn was far from perfect but he had a good heart...he really taught her some lessons for life in that small space of time they were in love. The movie showed that sometimes life doesn't go the way we plan...and that sometimes the greatest things to happen for us aren't planned.
I liked Wesley Snipes in this movie as far as the "acting is concerned"but I don't know why he looked like that.
I didn't even know it was him at first...he looked bad sorry to say...he looked like one of those African face masks you find in African American museums...wasn't he supposed to look younger? He looked like one of those oldschool guys that hang around the pool hall no matter what time of the day it is with a constant half cup of vodka in one hand a cigarette burning down to the filter in the other and talking about sports....aka "Ned the whino" aka "Bobby Brown". I don't mean to be insulting but my friend wasn't so kind and was wondering why they got Snipes in this flick for Franklyn, she said in this movie he looked like one of those "shrunken heads" african warriors wear on their waste band.
The whole skinless look thing didn't work..they should have gave the man a goatee or something. But what we all forget is that Snipes Film production company "Amen-RA" also contributed and he was executive producer....it was probably all just an excuse to kiss the beautiful Sanaa Lathan...overall they coulda got someone like Tyrese or Mekhi Fipher or something.
