Summary: One of the best Gangster Classics of All Time!
Review: Hailed by movie critic, Roger Ebert, as one of the best gangster classics of all time alongside "The Godfather", and "Scarface", "New Jack City" is an instant and extroardinary classic. Though many movie critics in the past and now have failed to see the true art of this film, other movie critics have understood the film's powerful message about the crack epidemic that became rampant during the late 80's. In addition, this film not only struck a cord in Hollywood with it's shocking message, but helped to establish the careers of actors Ice-T and Wesley Snipes and definetly put successful black films on the map, which helped to usher in the new black film movement paving the way for other "hood" classics that would dominate the screen during the early 90's. Moreover, director, Mario Van Peebles, though never given any credit for his work, is an excellent filmmaker doing what he does best by displaying his excellent camera work while, at the same time, teaching the African-American youth the dangers of drugs and how it leads to a person's downfall. The message of this film was plain and simple: Crack can lead a person nowhere in life and can damage the lives of others. If we do not continue to fight the war on drugs, then drugs will continue to destroy our country. This message along with the film, itself, should deserve mention in any film that has a positive message, and "New Jack City" will always be an extroardinary gangster classic that will continue to teach people about the choices that we make and how it will determine whether or not we will reach our downfalls.

Summary: Compelling With A Gritty Anti-Drug Message.
Review: "New Jack City" is one of the best gangster films I have ever seen. This movie works almost like "Scarface." It's wonderfully gritty with style and great performances. But "New Jack City" also has a great, graphic, hard-hitting anti-drug message. This movie doesn't hold back and shows reality with a great plot, characters, situations, and some well-done action sequences. Wesely Snipes is great as Nino Brown and is always convincing. Movies like "New Jack City" are rarely seen today and more should be made. This is a powerful film that's sylish and gritty. I highly recommend it.

Review: "New Jack City" was a real movie, that didn't water down or sugar coat urban streetlife. I loved this movie, and Wesley Snipes has certainly outdone himself with his spectacular performance as drug kingpin Nino Brown. It was action packed from beginning to end, and I loved every second of it.

Review: 10 years ago, Mario Van Peebles released a movie that would launch a new wave in Black cinema and would put then up-and-coming Wesley Snipes on the Hollywood map. Although not without its flaws, "New Jack City" is a highly entertaining film about the so-called war on drugs and drug lords in NYC. Snipes gives a charismatic performance as Nino Brown; props also go to Ict-T and Allen Payne, and Judd Nelson is...well...Judd Nelson. It helps that the film also has a pretty good soundtrack. Although the film seems to glorify the drug scene a bit, and despite some dated outfits and trends (love those flattop haircuts!), this film is overall a keeper!

Review: A gritty, realistic portrayal of the crack scene in the early 90s. Wesley Snipes is absolutely brilliant as Nino Brown. To my mind, this is his best acting performance. It set the standard for Black gangsta movies. Although it paid homage to Scareface, New Jack is actually a superior movie with a better storyline.

Review: Ahh..... New Jack City, what a classic. The tale of a man who runs the streets of New York selling crack, the overly agressive cop who wants to kill him himself, and the funny and funny-looking crack addict turned good. Ice T plays a cop who wants to shut down Snipes' business and watch Snipes die with his own two eyes. The loving part of the movie includes Chris Rock as Pookie, the crack addict who decides he is done with crack tries to help the cops but ends up being killed. The action in this movie in unbelievable. Wesley Snipes and his crew are one of the meanest in film history ive seen. He makes Al Pacino and Robert De Niro look like pussies. This is definitely a must see and a must own.

Summary: Rock a bye-baby!
Review: don't forget Pookie. Let's face it, Chris Rock is a natural crackhead and performs brilliantly and classically in this movie. The scene with him smoking up with the american flag shirt is probably going to be the longest lasting image of this film, also very symbolic of the anti-drug campaign of the eighties. Also, the chick, "I WAS PROM QUEEEN." Ice T is great, Judd Nelson (like one other reviewer noted) is useless, Snipes is great, the images are great, and the soundtrack is great. Vanessa Williams is crazy, and it's her lines that I quote in the title of my review, when she comes up on dread to take him out and then G money's talking, "Now That is how you kill somebody my brother, you come right up on the mf, and you do it in BROAD DAYLIGHT!" and I remember that from wathcing this movie years and years ago. Weaknesses are that its pretty cliche. I think that's a problem with most of Mario Van Peeple's work.

Summary: Are you your brutha's keepa??
Review: Fool, this film be the bomb, and I don't mean it bombed. Few movies touch me, but in New Jack City, the message was loud and clear, 'Keep it real and don't get caught'. Nino Brown had it all, and I mean he ruled the school. The problem was he got greedy. He makes deals with undercover cops, he wants to take down the mob, and his gang is falling apart. Plus he drops a decent looking ho for a real skanky looking ho. It funny to see the size of cell phones back then, but the hair styles were pretty ridiculous too. Ice T is no Slash, but he can wear a top hat in the rain just as easily. Judd Nelson has a race problem in this movie, He can't tell the difference between himself, a white cop, and Pookie, a black crackhead. He finally settle the matter buy proclaiming he is 'Poor White Trash Pookie'. In the end though, the message is clear. "If you've lost everything, you might as well cut loose and run. You never know, the libraian you shot may have a son coming to take you down." Or another moral of the story is "Avoid crazy old men on the stairs when you leave the courtroom."
