Summary: Movie 4 Society
Review: This is one brilliant film!! Just like it says on the box, 'Boyz 'n' The Hood' and 'New Jack City' were never this real. O-Dog iz 1 crazy mu'f~@£er. The scene at the beginning in the store is real hot and the crazy Dog keeps the tape to watch! You gotta see this film.

Summary: The Best Hood movie
Review: Powerfull and Dramatic yet bloody and gruesome, this movie is without a doubt the best hood movie of all time. It shows two totally different sides of life in the hood. Caine is trying his best too make something of himself and get out of the hood. His friend O Dogg is a thug who likes to brag about the men he kills. The film starts as Caine and O Dogg go into a store to buy a bear. The Asian clerks fear that they may steel so they hurry them. The male clerk tells O Dogg that he feels sorry for his mother so O Dogg kills both of them. There are some especially bloody scenes. This is a must see for fans of Boyz N the hood and Friday.

Summary: Menace II Society
Review: I felt that this movie was very educational, becuase it showed the harsh realities of not using your own good judgement, and having negative people in your life can do to your own personal growth. I felt this film reached a lot of young guys, black guys espceially, becuase it allows them to see how stupid trying to be the badest thing out there does to you. After veiwing this movie it made me a much stronger believer in the saying that what comes around goes around, becuase even though cain was choosing now to make the right decisions in his life he had done so much in his past that he could not go on.

Summary: a sensational experience from the Hughes brothers
Review: right from the opening shots of a simple trip to the liquor store gone horribly wrong, I knew I was in for a wild and emotional ride. the directors (brothers Allen and Albert Hughes) have made a very powerful movie about life in the 'hood. it could also be a coming of age movie, as a man realizes that what he's doing is wrong and tries to turn his life around.

Caine (tyrin turner) turns in a very good performance as a young man trying to find his way through life. O-dog (larenz tate) is his best friend and a very bad influence on caine; not that caine was that good to start off with.

as the movie progresses, caine seems to put himself into deeper and deeper trouble. in the end, he wants to lead a normal life... but it may be to late.

this movie was extremely graphic and violent when I saw it. the scenes of bloodshed had me going "ooohh" and "damn"... it was that visceral and unpleasant.

the late rapper, tupac shakur was suppose to play O-Dog but lost his part because he apparently punched one of the directors. the hughes brothers also have stated that this movie should just be taken as entertainment. it's not a view of a group of people living in a certain area. it's just a story about these two young men and their experiences.

still this movie is very good. I have lived besides caine and o-dog; it was fun and exciting at times and at other times, it was just scary. after watching it, I'm sure you will not forget it.

with the dvd version, I noticed a couple of 'mistakes' in the movie. during the liquor store scenes, you can clearly see the camera crew in the mirror in the ceiling of the store, if only briefly. also, the violence didnt seem as brutal, cause the blood letting seemed to have come slightly to the side of the actors and not in front or on them. when a man supposedly gets his head blown off, the blood sprays from beside him, not from him.

Summary: A work of art
Review: The Hughes' brothers depiction of inner city life is graphic in nature, but that's what they use to make their point. It's a vivid look at the lives lead by the youth of America's inner cities. It looks at how these youths, particularly the males, see the glamour of hustlin', but are blind to the repercussions of leading such a life. The movie's main character, Caine, finds out all about these repercussions in the worst possible way. This movie is not a glamourization of gangster life as many people believe. It is a realistic portrayal of life and death in the 'hood. Bravo!

Summary: Menace is just so real
Review: Menace II Society is a film which grips you from the beginning. My first viewing of it was at a friends house but after watching it I simply had to instantly buy it. Tyrin Turner and Larenz Tate portray two young homeboys living in the ghetto perfectly and I am looking forward to similar titles with either of those two actors in. The video cover says it all: "This is the truth, This is whats real" The storyline is magnificent as is the soundtrack to "Menace II Society" I recommend this film whole heartedly 99%

Summary: Brutally Honest Film!
Review: This brilliant, realistic, insightful and tough film is a painful look into the black ghettos of Los Angeles. Very naturally acted, and with realistic situations, lots of guns, profanity and violence, but that is the harsh reality that some people have to face. There are no heroes and enemies in this movie, it's just a look into the lives of desperate people who are deep down looking for a way out. Great film. Also see the similarly themed 'Boyz N The Hood'. Extras: watch for Samuel L. Jackson in a small role. From a scale of 1-10 I give this movie an 8!

Summary: the hughes brothers are ghetto scorseses
Review: this is one of my favorite movies. it really shows that the hughes brothers know what they're doing. the drive-by scene with the mac-10s is particurlarly well shot. this movie really reminds me of some scorsese hits like goodfellas. so if you like goodfellas, and you listen to rap music, you'll definately like this title.
