Review: If you happen to be a pseudo-intellectual. Ignore the comments about "getting" it, there's nothing to "get". Any attempt at a thought provoking scene is usually thrown in where it isn't wanted, and the same images are thrown at you at least 12 times each throughout the film's 400 hours. Like that flashback to the guy's wife? Like it the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th times? And the historical inaccuracies are truly annoying. So unless you get some sort of twisted thrill in bragging that you've seen the nonexistant "deeper meaning" of a hackneyed film, avoid this piece of crud like the plague.

Summary: This was the worst movie I have seen in more than a year.
Review: I would not recommend this movie to my worst enemy. It was an almost incomprehensible storyline, with little or no action. I kept watching and hoping that it would eventually "pick up the pace". I love many of the stars, but I would recommend that they find new agents before accepting any more scripts in the future. This was a VERY poorly written film, and it definitely deserves "two thumbs down"!!!

Summary: Too much of a good thing.
Review: The movie was beautifully filmed, the actors were well-known, and the writing was superb. The only problem is that soldiers did not comb and spray their hair before an excursion, the average day did not have a spectacular sunset, and war is not poetic. I really wanted to like this movie, but the many loose ends within just were not tied together. When too many variables of a movie are made to be perfect, some aspects of reality are lost. I watched this movie and just had a terribly hard time believing it. Play this movie for a war veteran and most, I think, would tell you they had little time to ponder the questions of life presented within it. This movie is like too much sugar in a cake... It makes it too hard to swallow.

Review: "the thin red line" - either you love it (and "get" it) or you hate it. simply put: it is one of the best films ever made. actor portrayals were brilliant, direction beautifully shot, and overall a masterpiece. there's no use in comparing it against "saving private ryan" because the movie isn't just about war; it's about the psyche behind it. about how each man deals with their own personal situations and "fights their own war". in the end, it's very enjoyable with oscar worthy performances by sean penn, jim caviezel, and ben chaplin.

Summary: This movie reveals a lot about the folks who liked it!
Review: In considering TRL, one must admit to the movie's great cinematography. No one can argue that filming coconuts, lying in the surf on a tropical island, followed by long shots of green grass blowing in the wind and close ups of red, tropical flowers is not technically brilliant filmmaking. Imagine the extraordinary patience it took to film the coconut lying in the surf scene. Add to that the original concept that war is bad, folks get scared, and yes, even a few die. Well, we have a real liberal blockbuster here. You see, the folks who loved Saving Private Ryan really were the same folks who were able to believe in real valor and honor. The TRL crowd were those still evolving to discover truth. The vacuous value system they possess draws them to pseudointellectual movies like TRL, where they can interpret and overinterpret the obvious. This movie was too long, dull, boring and laughable to make any mark on movie history. Sorry folks, this one is a loser.

Summary: The most memorable movie made to date
Review: I've read many of the positive and negative comments about this movie and have wondered what makes me think this is the best picture ever made. I've seen the movie a few times. It appeals to my senses. I don't think its a matter of level of intelligence whether you "get" this movie or not like some have suggested. I do think though that those who love it have a spirit, a deeper soul. Those who love it probably also like mellower music rather than heavy metal or hard rock. I would suggest to those who did not like the movie to watch it again in five years, you may be at a different point in your life than you are now and you will appreciate this movie for the masterpiece that is is.

Summary: TRL: A movie making triumph
Review: A film that was as hauntingly surreal as it was combat authentic, The Thin Red Line juxtaposes heaven and hell with remarkable artistry. The lush tropical paradise so beautifully captured in this film combined with the dream like recollections of a soldier's moments back home with his love, serve as the antithesis to the nightmare of war. Introspective yet gut wrenching, this movie captures the war experience like none before. The only thing wrong with this picture was the year it was released. In the shadow of the greatest modern day film and tribute to the veterans of WWII ("Saving Private Ryan") many viewers unfairly compared the two movies. TRL could have been set during any war, at any time in history. It was not intended to be a vehicle designed to honor our uncles and grandfathers who fought and sacrificed (like Ryan), but because the movie was also set during WWII, the temptation was too great for scores of moviegoers.

Review: This is a truly brilliant movie that works on many levels.Deprived of the kudo's by the inferior'Saving Private Ryan' this is special.The acting was breathtaking-not only by the great Sean penn but by the support cast.The direction was also immpressive giving one the feeling that you were in the film.The way nature was intertwined with the almost spiritual direction added to the cinematography.Quite simply whilst Steven Spielberg piled on the gore to try and imprress the Academy the Thin Red Line mixed humane beauty with war to have an ultimately bigger impact.This is a challenging film and when it finishes it stays with you.Hans Zimmers soundtrack also adds to the mood of an almost unfaltable film.It is frustrating to watch such a great movie go unnoticed.It challenges inferior film makers and directors alike:'Where is your spark now?'

Summary: The most unbias and true movie
Review: This movie is an awsome drama capturing the realism at it best. It is the fisrt time any movie shows you what is happening in opposite camps, and your camps instead of machoism. After some time you realized that you are not different than the others. If you are "warriors" then they are too, and if they are "barbarians" than you are too. I don't expect many people liking this movie, because again this movie is based on trusim instead of heroism. The irony is that this movie could have gotteng 12 academy awrads if it would have showed "HOLOCAUST" in it. May be "intellectual critics" still try to understand the movie.

Review: I rented this movie, but was thoroughly disappointed at it's blasse, War is hell message that everyone has tried to do in the past 70 years. I am truly stunned at those who found profound meaning to this long, dull movie. It crossed the line and wasted my time. Those who found meaning here were either starved for something to do, or simply creating something in their minds that certainly didn't exist on screen. Bad movie.
