Summary: Beats the hell out of Saving Private Ryan
Review: When you view "The Thin Red Line" you detect poetry, originality, and destruction. Saving Private Ryan just had brutality going for it, with the same old fact: war is hell. Thin Red Line looked at war into a new level: how it affects nature. Nothing has ever been so effective, and what can I say? Terrence Malick's Days of Heaven was just a pure joy to watch.

Summary: poecy meets cinematography
Review: Malick's interpretation of the story is certainly unconventional, and that creates a "thin red line" between those who appreciate this kind of filmmaking and those who don't. After all, who'd expect to see that suffering bird caught in a crossfire in one of those mainstream movies? O.K, this is no "Saving Private Ryan" in terms of craftsmanship, but it's nothing less precious; on the contrary, it's much more innovative on a different level. It isn't easy to make an audience identify with a character even when he's welcoming death. This is a "humane" war film. Everything from the flasbacks to the depiction of nature help us form a visual poem in our hearts. Could it be edited down? Maybe, but I never felt I was wasting my time. All the director's choices have served the movie well. All but one: I can't figure out the idea behind casting Clooney and Travolta. Maybe Malick had something to say ironically about the star system of Hollywood, or maybe he thought such familiar faces would add color to the movie, but I still think there's something irrelevant with that. Anyway, I loved walking on this thin red line.

Summary: one of the best movies this year
Review: This movie is one of the best of this year. It is a lot better than than saving "Ryan". The movie humanizes not only the soliders but also the enemy. Beautifully shot and with a very poetic script this is a must of the year.

Summary: This is the greates war film since Apocalypse Now
Review: Not since Apocalypse Now have I been so moved by war imagery. Malick juxtapositions are so intense: nature and war, Americans and natives, life and death. His visions are complex and look at the death of the soul, not simply the death of man. His use of cameos by John Travolta and George Clooney may seem silly, but that is his point. Travolta and Clooney are essentially the same character: one that has a lot of power and look like big characters, but instead are useless and silly. This is filmmaking at its greatest.

Summary: Great film, not for everyone
Review: "Thin Red Line" is an amazing film, very powerful. It is not everyone's film, though: A common complaint is about its lack of plot and coherence. Those who enjoy the film, like me, will probably enjoy it for that very reason. It is a very different war film, and I'm glad it came just in time to wash the awful taste of "Saving Private Ryan" out of my mouth.

Summary: Not very good; I almost turned it off.
Review: Too long, too many cameos, unrealistic action scenes, very little character development or interaction, marginally good acting and virtually no story line. I refuse to believe our soldiers of WWII were such pansies; if so, the war would have been lost. I want my money back!

Summary: One of the Best War Films EVER!!!
Review: wow! when I first started watching this movie I thought oh boy, it starts out a little slow but after that it throws you right in there with the boys in charlie company, you feel like your right there with them feeling their fears and their thoughts, its a hauntingly realistic portrayal of men in war these are,nt super heroes their just ordinary men the boy next door. Private Witt is one of the best film characters ever. When these guys die you really feel it because by the end of the movie you feel as if you know these men. FOr the realism of combat see Private Ryan, for the realism of the combat solider see the Thin RED Line.

Summary: each scene over-dranmatized more than the previous
Review: Although Nick Nolte plays the part of a self- centered commander with intense conviction, there are many holes not filled by this movie. thumbs down!

Summary: Waisting Time movie,Bad Director
Review: Too many flash back. Slow and sluggish Action. Waisting a lot of time to come out to the point of the story. This is a very Thin Red Line indeed and will never ever get an Academy Award. Big Budget Movie but Poor Quality. You see once, felt asleep and never want to see again.

Summary: Thin Boring Line
Review: This movie is slow. I give it 3 stars because my grandfather fought at Guadalcanal. This movie is nothing like the book TTRL, which is a masterpiece. But this is so different! The first 30-45 mins. is crap! It's Not even in the book! But some of the battle scenes were o.k., but it ain't no Private Ryan. Nick Nolte was good in this movie. But the Woody Harrelson death scene was dumb. He pulls the pin...it explodes...yet all it does is blow his "butt" as he says, off. In reality...it would have wasted him! I think this movie could have been about 2 hrs. 2 1/2 at the most...but 3+ hrs...it isn't worth it. Wanna see a good film? See my favorite: SAVING PRIVATE RYAN!
