Summary: Good movie
Review: this movie is very good, but it is a bit too long.the plot developments are good, but some scenes are stretched out.Basically the best part of this movie is the cast. The cast includes Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett, Kate Beckinsale, Cuba Gooding jr., Alec Baldwin, and Jon Voight who does an amazing job as president roosevelt. If you dont mind a long movie, then i suggest that you see pearl harbor, dont believe the critics when they say its too much of a love story, its not!!

Summary: It was "ok" but I could've been better...
Review: Although it would be a hasty generalization to say that any movie with two (not one, count 'em - TWO) teen heart-throbs (Ben and Josh) would be a romantic blah-blah-blah of any sort, in this case, it's somewhat true. There are several good scenes in the movie in which the tragedy of Pearl Harbor are portrayed, yet they are overshadowed by the red-herrings of fictional love. You could even say that the whole movie is a red-herring of the bombing of Pearl Harbor solely because it goes off on tangents of the stupid kind. This i find rather cliché because i expected more, but I got less. I gave this movie 3 stars because of my following three contentions.

1. The acting-although shallow and vapid, were pretty well done. Cuba Gooding Jr. does a great job and Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett-however aroused I was, deemed great actors all their own.
2. The battle scenes and CGI graphics were superb, as was the score written for them.
3. ...

In conclusion, I would suggest you atleast (or at most) rent this movie. It's not bad, but don't get your hopes up.

Summary: ROMANTIC WAR STORY WITH GOOD SPECIAL EFFECTS
Review: ...With modern sophosticated digial techniques and excellent direction by Michael Bay, PEARL HARBOR was far more authentic in detailed visual effects than TORA! TORA! TORA!. Accordingly, I agree with other reviewers who suggest that the bigger the screen you can get to view this movie on the better ... with surround sound. This is a very big, and very wide movie. From the plot point of view, this is two movies wherein a well acted love triangle among a nurse (Kate Beckinsale) and two best flier friends (Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett) is woven in between the extraordinary action. The acting was evenly balance and visually excellent. But the romance competed with the war story, albeit it was a plausible and even common human war story.

I don't think anyone will be disappointed who spends some three hours watching this long saga...

Summary: Titanic all over again
Review: Pearl Harbor is another Titanic. What could have been a good movie was destroyed by an all to complicated love story. If you hate Titanic you'll think this movie is better. Luckily the love story drops down in the second disc. Speaking of the DVD it is an excellent crisp clear transfer, wth great audio!

Summary: Surely its a parody
Review: America has without doubt the best film industry in the world. It makes without question the best action films anywhere and in more recent times it has been turning out good films on more serious subjects.

This film however is not one of these. It is like a parody of the worst faults that can litter American films. The one redeaming feature is the high quality battle sequences but they only go for about 30 minutes.

The film is basically a romance film based on cliches so ancient they haven't dared to raise their head since the 30's. Man meets woman, falls in love and goes to war. Everyone thinks man dies in war, woman takes up with man's best friend. This results in a bit of sexual tension which is resolved rather brutally towards the end.

From a historical point of view the film is hopeless. It overates the importance of the Doolittle raid to pander to the nationalism of the American audience. It suggests that American air force personel could drop in to England to fight the Hun for a while and then head back to the states to get into the Japs. From memory didn't joing the armed forces of a country invovle a little more commitment?

The most dissapointing aspect however is the artificial and contrinved love story. The dialogue is painful so it rests entirely on the screen magnatism of the leads to create some audience interest. They are physically attractive people but the lines are so deadly the first hour and a half of the film drag dreadfully.

Yet this could have been such a great film. The photography is brilliant, the special effects are wonderful and the caste talented. Should have spent more on the writing.

Summary: This is not about Pearl Harbor!!!
Review: If you are looking to see a modern day picture about the attack on Pearl Harbor - Don't see this. Historically this picture gives you nothing until the last 40 minutes, which that is even wrong. This movie is a love story and nothing else. If you want to find out what happen in the day's before the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor - "Tora, Tora, Tora" is the movie to see, plus numerous books. My rating would have been a negative if it was a option...

Summary: words fall short of describing my dissappointment....
Review: I must say that I was hesitant to see this after many bad reviews. For once, I should have listened. I gave it the one star for Kate Beckinsale the effects ONLY. No homage to the actual event, no great giver of details to the history (some seem rather made up actually), not even a good love story (which is all the movie was - a love story). The dialogue was pure sap, the plot that wasn't predetermined by history was completely ridiculous, the acting was atrocious, the score was even bad. I won't even touch the [unreal] accents. I can't account for Josh Hartnett's previous acting abilities, but I could swear I've seen Ben Affleck in something worthwhile before (although the title escapes me in light of both their disgusting displays of mediocrity). Its as if the entire war were merely an excuse to produce a truly uncompelling romantic melodrama. All in all, I am very thankful that I made the decision to rent rather than make a night of it at the theater because I wouldn't have had the benefit of the [beverages] it took just to get through the [movie].

And just a side note. To top things off, they edited the VHS version so that you have to change tapes right smack dab in the middle of FDR's speech after the invasion. Oy vey!

Summary: Gospel truth, guv
Review: The first half hour of this film is written as almost slapstick comedy. Now why couldn't 'Saving Private Ryan' treat the war in the innocent way it was meant? We also learn that the poor put upon Japanese were victimised by the USA with an oil blockade. Now why would they go and do a darn fool thing like that? No doubt the gospel according to Jerry would explain Nanking over their failure to lend the imperial army a cup of sugar. Alec Baldwin runs away with the cornball dialogue like there's no tomorrow and seeing as the atomic age was just dawning we can't fault him.

Summary: Excellent
Review: This is by far one of the best movies I've ever seen. Its also great for guys and girls. For the guys there are tons of war scenes and Kate Beckinsale. Also for the girls there is the romantic twist and Benn Affleck aong with his co-star new hearthrob Josh Hartnett. Together these three bring to life the story of December 7, 1941 when America was attacked at Pearl Harbor. It has many true events mixed in with lots of great drama. This movie is for everyone!!
