Summary: Horrid, inaccurate piece
Review: I am stunned. There are no other words to discribe how I feel after seeing this movie. It is boring, unromantic (even though it relaly is an attempt at an old fashioned wartime romance) and historically inaccurate. I mean come on, the Japanese brooding over whether to attack? It's quite obvious that Disney has once again put too much concern into whether they're going to offend a small group of people. Disney is obviously concerned about Tokyo Disneyland ticket sales dropping. Remember them changing "Pirates of the Carribean" to get feminsts off their backs? That is the same type of revisionist junk they've done here. Avoid this movie. Avoid, avoid, avoid!

Summary: WOW!
Review: Although my favorite war movies were Glory, Thin Red Line and Saving Private Ryan, all I have to say is that if you are into war movies mixed with a little love story, this is the one to watch. This flick is full of emotional rollercoasters and I haven't felt like that since I saw Glory! The special effects were awesome but not as graphic as Saving Private Ryan, but good enough! Ben Affleck's performance was really good. Cuba Gooding Jr's role was disappointingly small, but significant. The story line was really good, but they could have kept the story line at Pearl Harbor instead of dragging it longer to another battle sequence. But above all, it was really good for the 3 hours I spent at the theater. It's a must see at the big screen, and don't wait for video!

Summary: good simluation of pearl harbor attack
Review: Loved the computer graphics, but the plot was stretched too thin. It falls somewhere between the Titanic (3 stars) and Saving Private Ryan (5 stars)

Summary: just a bad film
Review: sorry to say that although the movie is full of amazing affects and stunning action sequences, its really just one war-movie clitche after another. the actors are incapable of actually acting emotions or character development, so the film makers have the characters saying "i feel this", "he does that because".

the movie is far too long. it is really two movies. in their effort to have a happy ending [ie, the american's score a victory], they have to take an extra hour to tell the tale of dolittle's raid on tokyo. it clocked in at just over 3 hours and could very easily been cut to a more reasonable length. the movie would have had far more power if they had just stopped after the bombing.

its a shame that the survivors and those killed at pearl harbor didn't get a better movie to tell their story.

Summary: My thoughts
Review: Brilliant movie. The effects were amazing, the bombing of the Harbor was a longer scene then I thought it would be and it was brilliant. Had a few "Titanic" like qualities such as the scene with Josh Hartnett and Kate Beckinsale amongst the parachutes and Kate with Ben Affleck on the side of the ship. It was a 3 hour flick, which I did not look at my watch once and I am a notorious clock counter. I thought the development of the relationships early in the movie was important because we could really feel for the characters and underdevelopment is a problem in many movies. I also felt the movie was very "PC" and very kind in their portrayal of the Japanese (any coincidence to the fact that Titanic raked up a fortune in Japan, hmm). Anyway a film that is worth the money and the sound and the graphics make it a must see in the theatres.

Summary: One Great Movie
Review: I thought this was one of the best movies this year. I am gonna see it one more time today. Besides the awesome action sequences, the love story has not been more tearjerking since Titanic. This movie is the "Karate Kid" of all historical based war movies. I recommend it to anyone who has a taste for great movies!

Summary: Could have been good.
Review: Pearl Harbor is a dissapointing film that plays out more like you average soap opera rathen than the high budget film it is. The story is that of a basic love triangle. Two young pilots fall in love with the same girl. I would have given the film 1 star if it wasn't for the battle sequence that lasted nearly an hour but even that was disapointing because since the filmmakers were going for a PG-13 rating they could not accurately portray the brutality of what went on. To say the least I was very dissapointed with the film. Save your eight bucks and go see Blow if you havn't already, it's a brilliant piece of filmmaking.

Summary: Good for what it is.
Review: In a nutshell this film is half love story half action thriller. The second half is the only reason to go see it. The very sappy "fake" love story between the dashingly dumb Ben Afflek and the lovely Kate Beckinsale is somewhat palpable. If you can sit through this, the true reward and stars of this blockbuster are the CGI artists who did an amazing job bringing together what can possibly be one of the most exciting action sequences ever. In a nutshell... very good film, but more historical accuracy and less cheesy fictional melodrama. Worth a night out.

Summary: Pearl Harbor is a bomb
Review: If you want to learn anything about the attack on Pearl Harbor, don't bother with this movie. Tora, Tora, Tora is FAR superior. The film is a pastiche of bad Hollywood romance and historical inaccuracies (to my knowledge, there is no record of Kimmel ever railing against Washington's apathy). The special effects are basically computer generated (i.e., unreal) and as such make the 'real' ones in Tora, Tora, Tora all that much better!

Summary: This is so stupid that it will win 7 Oscars
Review: I saw a sneak preview of this film last Wed. night and I have to admit that I am in total awe: the sheer scale of crap that Bruckheimer and Bay attempt to reach is totally inspiring. This movie is literally like four really, really bad movies in one.

The characters are so flat that they are non-existent. The love story between Affleck and Hartnett, and Kate Beckinsale was so trite and predictable that I was able to tell what was going to happen to these "characters" (I use the term VERY loosely) at least 2 hours ahead of the story. The "romance" had the feeling of a grade school level of melodrama (actually, the entire movie had a grade school level of melodrama). In fact, the love story just seemed more like a two hour long 1941 version of the beginning of Armageddon! I kept expecting Bruce Willis to come out and chase Affleck around the air base!

The only bright spot of the whole film was the constant "side story" of the Japanese invasion. However, the time between scenes of training Japanese soldiers and plotting officers is SO long because of the childish romance of the movie that I was completely unable to care about that 1/4th of the story. I imagine that what Bruckheimer and Bay intended with the scenes of the Japanese preparing for the invasion/attack was to bring on a sense of anxiety. It's too bad that the time between these scenes took so long that the effect does NOT work at all: all it really helped to do was to remind me that the title of the movie wasn't 100% inaccurate. As with Titanic (another Monument piece of CRAP), the only thing of worth in the whole film is the special effects. Unfortunately, special effects are not able to carry the weight of any film.

Like I said at the start of this review, Bruckheimer and Bay reach new inspirational levels of crap with this movie. Volcano was really stupid, Armageddon even more so, and Pearl Harbor doesn't disappoint at all. I don't know if I would say that this ranks high in the pantheon of cinematic crap (meeting the [non-]expectations of someone like Ed Wood), but one can really tell that massive amounts of time were spent nurturing and loving this piece of crap until it was able to bloom. It is so stupid that the public will absolutely love it, and it will probably be one of the most popular films of the last 10 years winning multiple Oscars.

In closing, I have to say that after watching the heights of crap that Pearl Harbor aspires to, I felt like I reached out and touched the face of God only to find out that he's Carrot Top.
