Rating: Summary: Pearl Harbor Review: I would say that this movie was pretty good. The bombing of Pearl Harbor scene was excellent. My only complaint is that the love story is cheesy and predicitable.
Rating: Summary: Pearl Harbor Review: It's only decent for the 40 minute attack, which I've gotten sick of because I've seen it so many times. The rest drowns in cliches. If you want a good, legitimate study on war, see Black Hawk Down.
Rating: Summary: COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER Review: To be as objective as one can this film has two good things. 1) the cinematography (very likely an Oscar winner in this Dept.) and 2) The Pearl Harbor attack scene. The rest of the movie is so predictible, boring, and not with the high quality acting you expect to see to begin with. You literally don't believe the characters (and their "love" for each other) What I believe killed this from being the next Big Oscar winner is the final scene which has no sense or purpose to the whole movie (except to prolong it for another 30 minutes or so...) At best is worth your seven dollars, but not more. Too bad, could have been a great Epic!
Rating: Summary: Predictable and overblown Review: After watching the movie for ten minutes anyone over the age of ten will easily be able to guess the ending. It's the most predictable film I have ever seen. It's also very overdramatic. You're hit with dramatic wannabe heart wrenching scene over and over, but since the director isn't able to get you interested in the characters or the story the moving images mean nothing to the viewer. It trys to be a cross between Titanic (mostly) and Saving Private Ryan, and other movies, but it fails to approach the quality of either of those two movies. The special fx and the battle scenes are nify. It's too bad they couldn't have been used in a better movie.
Rating: Summary: The best thing about this movie - THE ATTACK! Review: I went into this movie with high expectations because I liked all of Michael Bay's other movies. I liked this movie, but the love story? It was pretty boring! I kept looking at my watch wondering, "where the hell are the Japanese?" Don't get me wrong, you see them every now and then planning out their strategy on Pear Harbor. I guess I just expected more from this movie. The Attack is done very well. The special effects are top notch. The attack lasts at least 40-minutes! You have to wait 90 minutes before the attack comes. I know that they tried to make some story and they had to do something, but they should of thought of something else. Cuba Gooding, Jr. is only in the movie 15 minutes, if that, and I really liked his part in the movie. They really could have cut an hour of the movie and it would have been a lot better. Too bad that this really happened, because a lot of innocent lives where lost. I really felt bad for all the soldiers on the Arizona and all the others. I wish in the beginning they had explained better why we cut Japan off from oil? That came up in the movie for two minutes and that was it. You see, after the attack, how the Americans throw a little surprise attack on Tokyo. I never knew about that. I would recommend you see this movie in a good surround sound theatre. The bullets flying and bombs dropping are impressive. The musical score is very good and seems to go along with the movie very well.
Rating: Summary: A Near Perfect Date Flick Review: 4.5 Stars-Epic and sweeping, Pearl Harbor is this year's Titanic. Romance and hunks for the ladies. Weapons of destruction and the most beautiful woman to hit the silver screen since Grace Kelly in Kate Beckinsale. If they would have shaved about 30 minutes off the length, it really would be a 5 star film.If you liked Titanic, Braveheart or Gladiator, go see Pearl Harbor!
Rating: Summary: It is a great movie!!! Review: It is the best movie I have ever seen. I cried a lot, but it was all worth it. It is a great movie explaining what really happened at Pearl Harbor. Plus, Danny (John Hartnett) is super hot!!!!
Rating: Summary: Pearl Harbor lives up to hype (4.5 stars) Review: The movie Pearl Harbor is anticipated to be a big summer blockbuster. And why not? It has all the elements- a love story, special effects, a story of bravery, tragedy, and an all-star cast to pull it off. Though it is true the movie's beginning plods along as it sets up a love triangle, the actual bombing of Pearl Harbor is spectacular (not just fancy pyrotechnics either!). My one issue with Pearl Harbor is the intention of the movie. Because it seems to be intended for a very broad audience, the intent of the movie seems to be very broad as well. As the movie swirls around the complex feelings within the love triangle, you begin to wonder why the title "Pearl Harbor" is appropriate. Still the acting is superb, as is the cinematography, which allows the moviegoer to absorb beautiful Hawaii and driven aerial combat in the same film. The score comprises of a lush theme that touches the heart. I came away from the [behemoth of a 3 hr] movie very satisfied. A final note: look for Jon Voight as a very convincing FDR.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable drivel Review: If you go to movies for the plot, Titanic was a better telling of the love story in the midst of chaos. No, I am not saying Titanic is a great movie, just that it is better. If you go to movies for the acting, you will also be disappointed. The dialog through much of the movie is so stinted that it takes away. If you go to movies to watch things blow up, welcome home baby. I would love to be an elitist and say this film [was terrible], but watching ships and planes blow up, Bruckheimer style, is so absolutely sweet that it is almost astonishing. This is definitely a theatre movie, as it will be hard to get as absorbed in the action on the small screen. Of course, this is no "Saving Private Ryan", with its gut wrenching battle scenes, but watching a camera track a bomb from a plane to the deck of a battleship is beautiful. If you are thinking about seeing this movie, and can forgive the weak plot (love triangle admist tragedy), see it on the big screen. You'll be glad you did.
Rating: Summary: Immensely Entertaining! Review: After reading some of the reviews by the "professionals" prior to attending the movie, I entered the theater with a certain level of trepidation. However, before I knew it the three hours were over and the movie was finished! This is an incredible, entertaining film and it kept my attention throughout. Kate Beckinsale is a beautiful, young actress and she performs well in this film. Actually, all the actors in this film did a great job in their roles, especially Jon Voight as FDR. The dreaded love story that seemed to distract the professional movie reviewer was a key part of the film, yet it was gracefully intertwined throughout the movie and did not take away anything from the presentation. Certainly, the film was not entirely historically accurate but then this wasn't a documentary either! This is film, entertainment at it's best. If I wanted history in a capsule form, I'd watch the History channel or something. This is one of my top 5 all-time personal favorites. The key battle part, of about 45 minutes straight, was very well done, effective in presenting the horror of war without being overdone and beating you into the ground with gruesome displays of death. Overall, a very, very good film and well worth the price of admission, to say the least.
