Rating: Summary: Good summer movie Review: I thought that Pearl Harbor, though most say that it is mainly Hollywood, was an excellent movie. Most people going to the theaters are young women like myself, and considering that most high schools don't teach much about WWI other than how it started and ended, they don't spend much time on it. Going in with little knowledge on the subject, I came out knowing more, and WANTING to know more. Not many people know of Doolittle's bombing run after America entered the war. I can't believe people would put down a movie that tried to tell the story of patriotic Americans, and of how we got to where we are today, shame on you!
Rating: Summary: What a great movie! Review: I've read and heard many negative comments about this movie. I went to see it on the assumption that it would be more of a historial documentary about the battle at Pearl Harbor but I got so much more out of it. I never really knew much about what happened and this movie gave me enough information to finally understand how it came about. The love story between Beckinsale, Affleck, and Hartnett was just an added bonus. The whole thing was very touching and sad. From watching the men on those ships perish..., I was in awe through the whole thing. Way to go!!!
Rating: Summary: Titanic vs. Pearl Harbor Review: This Movie should have been a serious Movie! But it isn't! Because of the same thing that also ruined Titanic! Love! It's War and they invent kind of a Romeo & Juliet thing! Why do they have to ruin every good Movie with a Romance between two People!? However this Movie's gonna win plenty of Oscars! That's for sure! Pear Harbor may even be the most sucessfull Movie of all Time! Great Special Effects, no too good Performers and a even worse Script! At least Faith Hill gonna win an Oscar for the great Theme Song "There You'll Be"! That would be great for Faith cause the Song is really better than "My Heart Will Go On" and "Things Have Changed"!!!I guess Pearl Harbor will win Oscars for those Cathegories: "Best Score" "Best Supporting Actress" "Best Song" "Best Visual Effects" "Best Sound Effects" "Best Editing" "Best Directing" and maybe even for "Best Picture"!!! I really don't know where the Oscar-Jury comes from?! Don't they have any Idea of "A Oscarworth Picture"?! However Pearl Harbor is surely worth a Shot if you don't wanna end as an Outsider...
Rating: Summary: ENJOYABLE MOVIE! Review: On contrary to all those bashing Pearl Harbor, I geniunely enjoyed it. It gave me a look at the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Especially after going over WWII in our history class, Pearl Harbor was a great movie to conclude it. I understand that the history is quite vague in the movie, but please keep in mind that this is a MOVIE. I repeat, a MOVIE, NOT another special on the History Channel. It was meant for us to enjoy the new technologies used in film-making and to have a feel of what happened during WWII--the romances, the fate of soldiers, and just the overall impact the war had made on these people. The bombing of Pearl Harbor was the perfect example that NOBODY wins in a war. It is a good updated reminder for all of us about the perils of war. It is a great movie for anyone to watch, especially 10-12 year olds who are not familiar with WWII events yet. Overall, I really enjoyed this movie and I'm sure MANY would enjoy it. Just sit back and enjoy the film!
Rating: Summary: GREAT FILM Review: THE REVIEWS IN THE PAPER WERE POOR. SINCE I LOVE WW2 MOVIES I WENT ANYWAY. AM I EVER GLAD I DID. IT WAS A GREAT MOVIE. THE LOVE STORY PART OF THE MOVIE DIDN'T TAKE ANYTHING AWAY AND THE ACTION SCENES WERE EXCELLENT. RECOMMEND IT TO ALL, ESPECIALLY KIDS AND YOUNG PEOPLE WHO HAVE LITTLE OR NO RECOLLECTION OF WW2.
Rating: Summary: Good War Movie, Not-So-Good Love Story Review: This movie is one of the few movies I have ever seen that both delivers AND disappoints. The war part of the movie definitely delivers. It might not have been historically accurate, but the 45 minutes or so devoted just to the actual bombing of Pearl Habor are impressive. The special effects are done quite well and are worth seeing on the big screen. As is the human emotion that goes along with the attack-on both sides. It even delivered with the part of the movie that was a wartime buddy flick. The friendship between Ben Affleck(Rafe) and Josh Hartnett(Danny) was well done. However, the part that disappoints was definitely the love story. The triangle was both boring and completely predicable. I might have liked it more if either Ben Affleck or Josh Hartnett had any chemistry with Kate Beckinsale. Hartnett and Affleck had more chemistry with each other than either did with Beckinsale. I was more convinced of Rafe and Danny's love for each other than for either of those two for Evelyn(Beckinsale) or her for either of them. This movie might have been better if they left the love triangle out all together. Saving Private Ryan was an amazing movie and not a love triangle in sight. Pearl Habor should have followed that example. For the most part this movie also had great acting. Josh Hartnett never fails to amaze me. He did a great job. Ben Affleck also played a very good role. Admittedly this was not Affleck's best, but he did great with what he was given. I loved the scenes between Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett. The supporting cast was also impressive. Cuba Godding, Jr. gave a brief, but moving perfomance as real life hero Miller. Alec Baldwin and Jon Voight also turned in stellar performances. Kate Beckinsale gave a decent perforamnce, but I can think of at least a dozen other actresses who could have gave just as good a performance(maybe even better). All in all Pearl Habor is worth seeing. Just do not expect a great love story because there is not one. At least not in the traditional sense. The love between friends and comrades is much more interesting and original than any love triangle present in this movie. See this movie for the action sequences and the friendship, not the mudane, poorly executed love triangle. If you know not to expect a grand sweeping romance and just enjoy the movie for the other aspects, you might enjoy it more.
Rating: Summary: Blown Away Review: After seeing it 3 times in the past 4 days and planning on going at least 4 more times this week alone, I admit I am OBSESSED. With the actors? No....the story, the characters, the love triangle, the friendship, the digital works, the re-enactment....the entire production was amazing. I did cry on my last visit to this movie, and it is a sad love story. But the passion and relationships are simply beautifully captive. This is a MUST see for all movie goers.
Rating: Summary: ... Review: This is without doubt the stupidest movie of the year. It attempts to replicate the Titanic formula, in that it wants to re-create an event of historic importance, and tell a love story with an attractive young cast that will draw in the kids. Unfortunately the love story is a bore, and the attractive young cast is largely inadequate to the task of making me give a damn about what happens to them. Ben Affleck grins his way through the film, but Josh Hartnett seems unconvinced that he has to do anything other than stand around and look pretty. Kate Beckinsale is completely forgettable. The only memorable thing about the film is the attack on Pearl Harbor itself. To be fair, parts of the sequence are impressive. But unfortunately, they have come after an extended love story of appalling banality, so that it is rather hard to care about which of the characters lives or dies. Indeed, I rather found myself cheering on the Japanese. Please bomb Pearl Harbor, I thought, if only to wipe these jerks off the screen.
Rating: Summary: SOOOO bad Review: save your money and just see the trailer. those 3 minutes are the only credit the movie deserves. this movie left me disgusted -- the blatant propaganda, the cliched, flat STUPID "love" story (actually, you end up hating all the characters in the love triangle, not empathizing with them), the hysterically overblown production that gives hollywood it's internationally bad name, the b level comic book dialog, the cardboard cut-out characters, and then probably the most grievous of all, the spit in the face this movie is to all who lost their lives and loved ones on BOTH sides. the "triumphant" revenge scene as they fly into japan was full of machismo and bombs with "this is for betty" painted onto their sides made me just about puke. pearl harbor was a devastating event for us, and the aftermath was even more devastating for japan (and others!). to take the cold, violent, craziness of such an event and instead make it into some sick hallmark card was something more than just bad, it's irresponsible and insulting. the fact that they spend 145 million dollars on this is laughable. how expensive is a good writer? that said, maybe the only redeeming value is how unintentionally funny this movie is. in the very beginning of the movie, the two main characters are boys and reaching up to one boy's dad as he flies over them in his farm plane, the cheesy music starts and you're supposed to feel the power of their love for flying and the intensity of their dream. instead you just notice how they just got cropdusted.
Rating: Summary: Best Picture Of The Year Review: All I have to say is that if you did not like the movie because it had a love story I say you are all very stupid. It is very clear that before the movie came out in theater the previews show that there is a love story first then the attack. You have to know the characters before they are attacked. If you just want to see the attack then you just get only fourty minutes of battle and the movie will never be good. I loved the movie it had it all the right actors and the right script to make the best WWII movie ever made. This movie should win best picture of the year and if you have a problem with that you ca all kiss my A$$.
