Summary: It has all the makings of a classic mobster movie.
Review: Al Pacino does it again! The performance by both Al Pacino and Sean Penn are fantastic. The plot really thickens in this soon to be classic mobster movie. I loved it!

Summary: The great lost gangster movie
Review: A character driven piece on trust and loyalty with some explosive DePalma action, this is a real emotional ride, thanks to Pacinos tour de force lead performance. Unlike some of his other characters, you really care about this guy and his need to go straight. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Sean Penn exceeds at making his lawyer a repulsive whiny slug. Just sit back and watch these pros work a great story. Anyone who loved the Godfather or the Untouchables will love this, too. The DVD offers a great widescreen picture plus a trailer, but nothing else. The movie speaks for itself, though. I also love how it doesn't milk its 70's time setting. It's totally natural and real.

Summary: One of the best De Palma movies ever made
Review: When people will look back at De Palma's career besides the films Blow out, and Scarface, this is the film which will standout. This is one of those undiscovered gems, those films that never succeed initially at the box office but have true staying power like Raging Bull. One of the best acting performances ever captured on film is Sean Penn as a coke snorting lawyer. De Palma is also on in terms of directing (he can move that camera like no one else), and the movie contains one of the better, intelligently written screenplays to grace an action/drama movie in recent memory. Al Pacino is good, but slightly flawed as a Puerto Rican, you can tell he was still caught up in the Scent of a Woman character while this movie was being made. Still he is very dynamic, and at times brilliant. I would give it four and a half stars but the ratings don't allow it.

Summary: Carlito's Way is fresh and original, a winner of a film
Review: Al Pacino's most underrated performance as Carlito Brigante, the reformed gangster who found new meaning to life. Sean Penn, who plays David Kleinfeld, is unbelievable. His performance was worthy of an Oscar nod. Director Brian Depalma uses crafty camera angles and colorful characters in this powerful drama about life, loyalty, and love.

Summary: Al Pacino, Brian DePalma where can you go wrong?
Review: Over the years Brian DePalma has directed some very good movies and some very bad movies. But overall when he collaborates with Al Pacino, usually is a great. This movie shows the stark realism of how hard it is to fly straight. The movie takes place in the late 70's and is about a ex-con name Carlito Brigante (Al Pacino) who tries to get out of a life of crime and into normal life. It also stars Sean Penn as the greedy lawyer David Kleinfield. The movie is a beautiful transfer, and includes a great theatrical trailer that makes you wander why no one went and saw it.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: an early 90s classic
Review: Pacino is spellbinding. This movie is dark and very atmospheric, with a good, although unpleasant performance by Penn.Pacino is as cool as ever and strangle-holds your attention. His performance is the highlight of the film.
