Summary: good movie yes, but a bit over rated
Review: This movie is really good but I think it gets a bit to much hype. I know that the movie Blow is a lot more recent of a movie but it's a lot better I think. If you like these kind of movies blow is knid of the same think, but not as violent. So I guess Scareface is a bit different then Blow. Scareface is great considering it is an old film I just can't believe all the hype that is still around it. It's obviously worth owning I myself own it. Check it out it IS a good film.

Summary: Perhaps One of the Greatest Films of All Time
Review: Many people, especially critics and those of the priveleged class, misunderstand this film, which is of great significance to many places in the United States, especially Los Angeles. Scarface is a work of art through and through, with Al Pacino giving an excellent and inspired performance in one of his best roles. He is utterly convincing in the role of a Cuban druglord, not only in his passion, but also in terms of his accent and mannerisms; he seems quite authentic as a Latino. The story, which is rooted in true history, is of Tony Montana, a poor Cuban immigrant who comes to the shores of Florida via Mariel boatlift in the early 1980's and, through the circulation and distribution of cocaine, rises to the rank of drug kingpin. Besides being a classic rags-to-riches story, the film is an excellent example of character study. There are numerous subtle clues that indicate the difficulty Tony encountered most of his life, being that his father left him and his family when he was still growing up as well as the fact that he had holes in his shoes at the time of his arrival on U.S. soil, a symbol of his poverty. Besides this, he has other strikes against him: he is a Latino, a person of color who speaks English with an accent, and he is marked by a scar on his face, causing society to presume that he is a criminal; this is evident by the opening scene, in which he is immediately interrogated by the police and locked up in a cage known as "Freedom Town." Getting a green card was also a difficult feat for him, involving brutal foul play. On top of that, his first job is that of a dishwasher alongside his friend/partner/brother Manny Ray, an occupation that only pays the bills if one is lucky. It is obvious that Montana represents the underclass as a whole. Given all of this, it is no wonder that he chooses to become a part of the cocaine empire, which exemplifies something which many people can respect: Tony Montana came from nothing, and he rose all the way to the top-- this is the main reason why many gangsta rap artists respect and empathize with him. Unfortunately, he brought himself down in one major way: getting high on his own supply. Scarface is loaded with many complicated elements that make it a great film, and all the while, the audience is cheering for Tony; this is largely out of empathy for his difficult past, as life has really backed him into a corner, but also because he embodies morality in many ways: he is loyal, courageous, and a man of his word. Another interesting tidbit is that despite the roughness of his trade, he never kills innocents. Al Pacino certainly outdid himself with this one, but his is not the only memorable performance; Stephen Bauer is perfect as Manny Ray, and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio manages to convey a haunting innocence as Gina, Tony's younger sister. There is no bad acting throughout the film, and the balance of realism, drama, comedy (there is a certain humor present in Tony and Manny throughout most of the film), and action, of which there is plenty, is well-maintained. Yes, Scarface is a very bloody film, but it is a reality for some. All should view it; it is definitely an eye-opener.

Summary: Scarface...warts and all
Review: Maybe I bought the wrong version. When I got it at BB there was only one version I think. I believe I got the full screen version but not sure now. All I know is I saw this on an import (bootleg?) dvd a couple of years ago and it looked terrible on a 32" 4:3 crt. About half the screen was blocked out due to the original aspect ratio and the crummy transfer. Well at least with the full screen version there is no letter boxing or blocking but the aspect ration is still screwed up. It didn't look right on my 60" Sony no matter what WIDE mode I was in. I ended up watching it in Wide Zoom and still got some picture distortion on certain angle shots. Also, there are some really fuzzy grainey scenes from time to time throughout the movie.Never really got the buzz this movie was about when it came out. I get it even less now. It is dated to be sure. FX's were not that good for 1983 and look worse now. Guns and gun handling looks pretty good though. At least no one is trying to help the bullets out of the gun or trying to shoot from slide lock. No sex really. A couple of exposed breasts and one nipple. Lots of blood and guns and piles of coke. Michelle Pfeiffer looks pretty hot. Mary Mastrontonio looks like Rosanne Rosanna Danna and Al Pacino has a bad accent. That's about it. I guess it's one of those movies you have to see at least once to see what all the fuss is about and this is the best looking video release thus far, warts and all.

Summary: Pacino rules
Review: This movie is so much fun to watch over and over again. Al Pacino gives a mesmerizing performance as a drug lord in Miami. My favorite scene in the movie was near the end after he killed his best friend. There he was in his office with all the money and power he could possible have, yet so unhappy!!! That look on his face is just captivating!! By the way, I read that some viewers complained about the 1980's music soundtrack in the movie. What do you expect when a movie is made in 1983???? HELLO????

Review: A bit boring in the beginning, a bit bloody in the end. The middle of that journey was the best. But it doesn't really matter, Tony failed eventually. That all did finally consume him, he lost control of himself. Hence, the world is not yours nomore. I'm about to order this dvd now... OKAY (king)

Review: When I first saw Scarface, I was just completely blown away by the acting thanks to Mr. Pachino as Tony Montana and how he became the top drug lord, and was taken down from power.
Tony Montana is a poor Cuban who comes to the United States to escape from the Socialist rule of Fidel Castro, and once he gets to Miami, he says one of my favorites lines in the movie: "Miami, it is like one big giant p***y ready to get f****d.' Now this is before the 80's; before the drug boom in Miami and throughout the urban US. Now Tony Montana starts to slang (dealing drugs) and now he is one of the highest drug lords in America; he lives in a mansion, nice cars, and everything you can think of. Now as Tony's empire gets bigger, the DEA does a sting on Tony, and they try to bust him, but no luck. Now he knows that there are people willing to kill him to get where he is, but he is lucky to get away with his life.
Now he is in deep water, and a rival drug lord goes head to head with Tony Montana (the movie is called Scarface because he has a scar on his face, duh!) and now he is fighing for his life. This movie I recommend is NOT FOR KIDS! There are 182 f**ks in this movie, I counted, and this movie shows you that when you are a drug lord, you dont stay at the top forever.

Review: This is without a doubt one of the most classic mob movies of all time. Not your ordinary mob story, Scarface is about a Cuban man who becomes one of the most rich and powerful people in Miami. Al Pacino is in it, so come on, it has to be a great movie. I would not recommend this movie if you have a weak stomach or do not like gratuitous violence. If you are not one of those people, than this is an awesome movie to watch!

Summary: Great character piece.
Review: I usually like movies that focus on character development. Even though there is a lot of action and violence in this film, that action and violence is interesting because of the people involved. You get to know and judge the characters because of how they act and what they say. Oliver Stone wrote this screenplay and he did some field research on it, talking to people not only Miami but in South America where the drugs are made. There is a gritty realism to the film so you get the feeling this really could have happened. Of course, some of the facts may have been made up but generally speaking it seems historically accurate. The movie draws the viewer in right away, the first 30 minutes might be the best. It is so long that it drags a bit in the middle, but keeps moving enough to keep you interested. Definitely you can see the ending coming a long way off, but it is still like an awful car crash you can't take your eyes off of. I wouldn't put this on my top 10 all time list but it is pretty close. I definitely wasn't disappointed.

Summary: Scarface: A Classic
Review: This movie truly symbolizes the "struggle" as it is so often put. While some believe that this movie glorifies the "gangster" lifestyle, I for one believe this is simply a wonderful insight into the rise and fall of a man hungry for power and wealth. Although Montana sold and used drugs and was a very ruthless killer, he was also a victim in a way. He simply wanted the "better" things in life and given his background he saw only one way for him to do it and this thirst for power and money engulfed his very being and eventually led to his downfall.
I recommend the anniversary edition to everyone but it isn't a must have. Only the movie itself is. The rappers giving their take on the movie was a very nice touch but i thought that there could have been other individuals featured who could have had just as good insight into the movie just from a differnt perspective. All in all this movie is a must watch for any one who loves movies, not just for "gangster's".
