Review: I really enjoyed this movie. The violence maybe a little much for children but it also gave the movie its realism. I would recomend this classic epic film to any true movie fan.

Review: First, this is the greatest film, known to man, al pacino's strongest role,and charactor, aside from carlito, in carlito's way, another film i'd recomend, anyways, this film, is amazing, the extras are great, but universal, did a horrible job with the picture quality, get the widescreen edition, on v.h.s. for the best picture, it's THX, this transfer is sorry,and it brings tears to my eyes, I got dvd, so I could see pacino, light the screen on fire,and this, sadly I can't recomend this version, because pacino needs to be seen, in a digitial transfer, this has alot of artifacts in the picture, be aware if you purchase, but I can't say it's horrible either, your decision, but this is the movie, to see it was the movie of the millenium, right alonside carlito's way, if you wan't to see some films, that will make you love, film,and life itself, these are it.

Summary: Great film! Not so great DVD.
Review: In short, "Scarface" is a great film! It is probably the single best gangstar movie ever made. I wouldn't even think of looking at the original version with Paul Muni. Who in the world can play Tony Montana better than Al Pacino? It's a question without an answer. I would give this 5 stars had Universal Studios put more effort into the picture quality of this DVD. The picture quality stinks! The sound is good for Dolby Surround, and I liked the extras. However, either the tranfer was so poor in quality that the DVD represents the images as best as it could, or Universal sacrificed picture quality for the extras. Who knows? It's watchable, but if you sit close enough, noisy video artifacts will show. It's not as bad on other DVDs. Oh well, it doesn't take away from the quality of the film. I watched this DVD, annoyed at the picture quality, and I still enjoyed the movie. I would recommend the DVD for the extras, the sound, and the small size of the DVD, not for picture quality.

Review: It really amazes me how SCARFACE has acquired its reputation. Sure, it has all the right elements; direction by the terrific Brian dePalma, Al Pacino in the lead role, and screenplay by Oliver Stone. Somehow though it just never gels. I bought this video in a box set with CARLITO'S WAY, much the better film. I haven't seen the original, so I won't make comparisons. The story is long-winded, and speaking honestly, it shouldn't run for nearly three hours. Perhaps they could have fit it into two. What worries me is that dePalma, like in some of his other films, like DRESSED TO KILL, especially, just tries to be controversial for controversy's sake. The excessive use of violence and swearing was unnecessary. But that's enough of the bad. Pacino is good. Like deNiro, he finds it difficult to lose the " gangster " label he has acquired, but he equips himself well to the role. The plot too is fine. Obviously in the 1930s version, a gangster couldn't be a hero, he has to fall, but it's good that this message is used in this film. It shows the excesses of capitalism, a world of greed. It highlights the faults of the American dream, where the world is yours. Some have given SCARFACE top marks, but I can't agree with that. It's alright, but never reaches the top level of gangster films, such as Goodfellas or Godfather Part 2, which I consider to be the two greatest.

Review: Brian De Palma's Scarface is a colorful, realisitic and undeniable crime classic that inspired everything that came after it-- from Miami Vice to innumerable Golan Globus knockoffs to the work of John Woo (Bullet in the Head) to King of New York, New Jack City, Sugar Hill and more. A three hour masterpiece, it is also De Palma's best film (his second Carlito's Way teams him with Scarface star Al Pacino and more Latino characters). In Scarface, De Palma tells the story of Tony Montana, a dirt poor Cuban who arrives in Florida, sees other drug lords earning fortunes then begins his own rise to the top. The first act details his slow climb to meeting the boss. The second act details his dalliance with the boss' girl (Michelle Pfeiffer in her debut role), which leads to a Shakespearian "usurping of the throne." The final act details the reality of the late boss' life, the partnerships with drug lords even more ruthless than Montana and his "little friend," the M-60 machine gun (seen here in its cinematic debut, grenade launcher and all). Ignore the critics: they hated it upon its release, but today, agree that Scarface is a must-see.

Review: This has to be the best movie that I have ever seen. Not only because Al Pacino is such a great actor but also because of the great fighting scenes.

Summary: HEY TONY! MAGNIFICENT CHARACTERS MAKE A MAGNIFICENT MOVIE
Review: The chainsaw scence has got to be one of the nastiest scenes I have seen in a movie. Al Pacino comes accross excellently as Tony Montana, and Michelle Pfieffer deserves to have an oscar for her performance. This movie also reaches high for the number of times the characters say "fock", yu know what i mean if youve seen this already, if you havent, go buy it immediately!

Review: I've seen pretty much all the great crime movies (The Godfather Trilogy, GoodFellas, The Untouchables, Carlito's Way, Pulp Fiction, etc.), but I gotta say that this one takes the taco. It's my favorite movie of all time and has been for the past 3 years. Critics don't know jack. I can't believe Leonard Maltin had the audacity to give this movie one star. Is he nuts in the head? Probably. He also gave Taxi Driver (another great film) two stars. Yet another point in which why you shouldn't listen to critics on movie reccomendations. Look at all the other reviews about this movie. Everyone seems to love it, despite a few rotten apples in the Amazon.com review bunch. Pacino is my favorite actor and after seeing this movie, you might understand why. De Palma is a highly underrated director. He doesn't copy off of Hitchcock like so many people say. De Palma copies off of De Palma. The synth score kicks and the ending sequences explodes with intensity and excitement. Great buy for Pacino fans, crime movie fans and movie buffs alike should get a kick out of this overlooked masterpiece, despite what an ignorant man like Leonard Maltin has to say.

Review: "Scarface" is one of the greatest of all mob movies. It's an epic crime drama done with style and care. Brian DePalma presents a film that ignites the screen with a great screenplay by Oliver Stone and an amazing performance by Al Pacino. Unlike "The Godfather," which was more about family and relationships between father and son, "Scarface" is an exhilarating and intriguing journey into Miami's mob underworld, seen through the eyes of Tony Montana, a Cuban refugee with some of the greatest lines in movie history. The degree of excess here is brilliantly done and adds even more realism to a great work. DePalma shows a wonderful touch of style in the sets, costumes, cars, even in the violence. Look at the brilliant eye for composition he shows in a scene where an assassination attempt is carried out on Tony in a nigh club. The movie is full of that Latin style and intensity. The screeenplay By Oliver Stone is brilliant because it's complex in the way in which we are not just interested in the action, but characters and events as well. We really care about what happens with these people, least of all Tony. Pacino gives one of the greatest and most intense performances, always believable. He steals the show entirely through his accent and facial expressions. The action sequences aren't dim-witted, but smart and stylish. "Scarface" vibrates with style and realism like few gangster dramas have. It stands as a masterpiece. One of the greatest crime pictures of all time.
