Rating: Summary: scarface DVD Review: The only thing negative about this DVD was the packaging. I bought this in complete faith that the extra material would be killer. And it it did not disappoint. The making of documentary is completly uncensored and gives great insight into the making of the movie by depalma, stone, pacino, and bregman among others who participated in the making of it. Also, the outtakes are great to have for any collector. The movie of course is a classic and not to be missed.

Rating: Summary: The start of total decadence? Review: I'm sorry, but I saw this film in the theatre and couldn't get by all the swearing. No character could get through a single sentence without saying the f word. Bad language in films was common, but not to this degree. I think this film was a breakthrough and led Hollywood to think cussing is essential. It is not! I don't go to theatres any more and I avoid modern movies so as to miss this assault on my ears. It's no wonder young people talk in this manner in ordinary speech. They use the f word in every sentence no matter who's within listening distance. A sad commentary on the decline of morals. As for the movie, I found it boring, too long and the ending was absurd.
Rating: Summary: My first DVD Review: This is the first DVD I ever purchased - in fact, I bought it months before I could even play it. As always, it's a masterpiece. The video and audio are great, although not necessarily the best ever. The Making Of documentary is very informative, and so are the other extras. The navigation is a little weak - it took forever to find the tons of photographs. I wish, though, that they would have included the extra footage found in the televised version. This is arguably Al Pacino's best role, and a must-have for any fan of Pacino or the genre!
Rating: Summary: So, this and my other DVDs, I can guarantee production... Review: As a huge fan of this film (I saw it twice in the theater, and innumerable times since then on tape, CED videodisc, laserdisc, and DVD), I'm disappointed that the DVD is not enhanced for widescreen TVs, and that the soundtrack is Dolby 2.0. The supplemental material, including an hour-long "making of" and several outtakes, is well worth the purchase price for fans of this film. I can't add much to the numerous rave reviews here, except that as much as I enjoy this movie, the ending seems absurd, to put it mildly. This is definitely not a film for all viewers; the intense violence, combined with the extremely frequent use of the "F" word, is realistic, but not entertaining for everyone. Still, for those who enjoy gangster films, this is mostly first-rate, featuring a host of scintillating supporting performances to complement the star turns by Pacino, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Steven Bauer. Giorgio Moroder's soundtrack is one of the most memorable original scores of the last 20 years.
Rating: Summary: Twisted, Dark, Roller Coaster Ride Review: This movie is certainly not for everyone. If you can get past the excessive violence and strong drug use, you'll find a compelling movie with sturdy characters, truthful plot, dark themes, and one hell of an ending. Al Pacino and a very young Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio both give amazing performances. Although Tony Montana is a drug kingpin and he kills many people throughout the movie (including his best friend in one powerful moment), when the end comes, and all of those Cubian assassins come into his mansion, you almost hope that Tony will be able to fend them off. It is definetely saying something as a writer and director for Brian De Palma when he can make you feel sorry for a drug dealer.
Rating: Summary: My first DVD Review: This being my first and currently only DVD title (I bought this months before the player!), I cannot compare the screen quality with others. However, I am very pleased with the features! I've noticed things I've never seen before with the widescreen format, have had fun reading the subtitles to figure out what characters have been saying all along, and the extras are great -- the Making Of documentary, the outtakes, etc. One drawback: I would have liked to have seen the extra footage included in the televised version! Otherwise, this is a fabulous disk, and arguably Al Pacino's best role and acting to date! Absolutely recommended for all Scarface fans.
Rating: Summary: Excelent Movie OK DVD Review: Ok this movie was great! When I first heard about it I thought it wouldn't be that good because it involves the Cuban Mafia rather than my favorite Italian Mafia. But I was pleasantly suprised it was realistic, gory, and had a lot of swears. It seems to portray the time period's problem with cocaine. I would recommend this movie to all who are interested in the organized crime topic. The DVD picture quality was not that great but the extra features and widescreen format over rules the poor picture quality. But I was not that surprised because the movie is 20 years old.
