Rating: Summary: say hello to my little review Review: Scarface" has grown into the realm of cult status since it's original release, it is one of those films which was not a blockbuster smash upon release, instead it's value and importance was determined with the passage of time. This is the case with many great films, while "Titanic" isn't talked about as much as when it first came out and broke records, "Scarface" is always a popular favorite and is always cited as an influence on the popular culture. The story is the criminal angle of the American dream: Tony Montana (Al Pacino) arrives on Miami's shores with the large wave of Cuban immigrants who arrived in the early 80's, soon he makes contact in the world of the cocaine trade and rises in it's ranks, ending-up taking over his boss' organization (and mistress played by Michelle Pfeiffer), but the world of lavish excess is also the instrument of his downfall. "Scarface" remains a stylish, vibrant movie, it is one of those few crime pictures where the set design and story work side by side. The screenplay is by Oliver Stone, who himself was living in the world of cocaine-snorting in Hollywood and wrote the script as a goodbye to the vice, is fascinating in it's exploration of the criminal underworld and at the same time tells a highly entertaining, well-crafted story of a man's desire to find success and his downfall brought by the excesses of that success. Director Brian DePalma films the movie with energy and craft, with vibrant colors and a pacing that makes the movie long, but not slow. Al Pacino delivers one of his great performances, he is always on the edge, intense and incredibly convincing. Some have accused the performance of being over-the top, but that's where these characters live. The movie was also first attacked for it's violence, and today some still consider it pretty heavy, but the violence the movie portrays is real. Anyone who watches the news or keeps themselves informed knows the violence in this movie is an everyday reality in the world of the drug trade. In the years since the movie first premiered, "Scarface" has proven to be highly influential, the new DVD edition features a fascinating documentary on the movie's influence on the hip-hop culture who apparently uses this movie as base for ethics and style. For movie buffs it's a great story that's well-made and expertly performed and written, just look at the great ending! "Scarface" is a bonafide American classic.
Rating: Summary: SCARFACE......who hasent seen it? Review: You've seen the movie you know what happens and if you havent seen this movie I suggest you pick it up and see what everyone is talking about. I own both editions of this movie. I have this edition which just recently came out and the previous one released years ago. This one has a lot of bonus features but I've never been one to get all excited over bonus features. All I really care about is the movie it self and this is one that no one can afford to miss.
Rating: Summary: Scarface - An extremely powerful silver screen masterpiece! Review: "Scarface" is, simply put, the ultimate gangster movie of all time and oddly enough it doesn't even involve the normal gangsters as they usually involve Italian Americans and such. In the final analysis, "Scarface" delivers on all points from superior acting on a superior script to direction on an epic scale. While this film was delivered to the theaters in 1983 it is one of those timeless films that still draws' an audience that includes people that weren't even born when it hit the theaters. While Al Pacino will always be remembered for his performances in "The Godfather" films it is "Scarface" that first comes to mind when his name is mentioned! To date, his performance in "Scarface" is and probably will always be his strongest and most memorable performance. Just as "Scarface" is the film that took Al Pacino beyond super stardom it is also the film that brought two of Hollywood's most acclaimed and extravagantly beautiful women to the forefront in Michele Pfieffer and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio! Both actresses' performances in this film are extremely strong and it is somewhat hard to think of the films they starred in down the road not having them had they not been fortunate enough to secure their respective roles in this film. The one surprise of this film is Stephen Bauer whose career should've been launched into super stardom by his incredible performance in this film however, over the years he's rarely ever exceeded the character actor role. What else could one expect of Director Brian De Palma other than an exceptional film as "Scarface" was one of those films that seemed to come together from a synergistic force from the very beginning through its script by Oliver Stone to its producer Martin Bregman to its director and its superior cast! The Premise: Tony Montana (Al Pacino) is one of many criminals that Fidel Castro has cast from his shores to America to alleviate his prison system. As Tony comes to the states he brings with him his voracious desire for money and power and not to mention, his ruthlessness as well. When given the opportunity to use all of these talents to better his position within the Cuban mafia scene in Miami, he excels on all points. Along with his insatiable need for power and money he has an overwhelming need to take care of his younger sister in Gina (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) which could later lead to disaster... "Scarface" is a film that tells the powerful tale of one mans insatiable need for power but also plays well to the fact that no matter how big a fish gets, there's always a bigger fish in the ocean... I highly recommend this film to any and all fans of films in this genre. Fair warning to those that are not fond of violence and harsh language as this film may not be for them. {ssintrepid} Special Features: -Def Jam Presents: Origins of a Hip-Hop Classic -Scarface: The Rebirth -Scarface: Acting -Scarface: Creating -Scarface: The TV Version -Deleted Scenes

Rating: Summary: This film is funny, tragic and exciting. A true cult classic! Review: This has to be one of my all-time favorite movies. Al Pacino is masterful in his portrayal of Tony Montana an immigrant cuban criminal who comes to Miami in the early 1980s to live the american dream. From beginning to end the movie keeps you glued to the screen and Pacino is hilarious as is Steven Bauer who plays Manny (Tony's right hand man). This is a film that you have to watch even if you dont like gangster movies. The dialog and scenery is also impressive. Also it comes with some interesting behind the scenes look at the making of the film and some cool interviews. Don't miss this 5-star cult classic.
Rating: Summary: where am I going to get a scar like that [...] Review: Tony Montana (Pacino) is a political refugee, washed up from the beaches of Cuba to reign over Miami's cocaine empire through the 1980's. Filled with passion, gore, back stabbing and murder Pacino and Pfeiffer deliver the most dramatic tale of a drug king and a marriage lost.Tony Montana (Pacino) is a political refugee, washed up from the beaches of Cuba to reign over Miami's cocaine empire through the 1980's. Filled with passion, gore, back stabbing and murder Pacino and Pfeiffer deliver the most dramatic tale of a drug lord and a marriage lost.Scarface is not for the faint of hearted, as this cutting edge film has so many controversial scenes that some of them ended up on the cutting room floor as Scarface originally achieved an X-rating. I believe the critics loath the portrayal of 'Montana' who kills his way to the pinnacle of the Miami drug rings, because the scary thing about this movie is that it may well be extremely realistic. i am a big fan of films, especially gangster flicks. I saw a film once, it was the best. Scarface is a film with so much involved in it that it perhaps covers all audiences of the world. The film has been banned or segregated throughout television and media voices insisting it appears to be too violent for any sane mind. I am not one of these voices and believe any film fan must watch it. This is definitely amongst Pacino's best films and I think if you compare his portrayal in this film to films such as the 'Godfather', 'Carlito's Way', 'Dog Day Afternoon', 'Serpico' and 'Heat', you get a idea that he is a very versatile actor. 'Scarface' will challenge your beliefs whether it is on America, on the legalisation of drugs, on morality or on material values. This is what makes this amongst the best in its genre as you will get more out of it than just mere blood and guns.In the end it's all a matter of taste. It isn't perfect, but it's vivid, incredibly outrageous, and invites multiple viewings. It's no Oscar winner because it's far too enjoyable for that!

Rating: Summary: GREATTTTTTT Review: I love this movie and everything about it.I love the atmosphere, the sun-baked,palm infested sandy Miami atmosphere.I love the fast pace that this movie moves at.This is without a doubt the most exciting and action-packed of all gangster pictures and just about every major film person evr has something to do with it. Oliver Stone writes it,Brian De Palma directs it,and Al Pacino stars as brutal, profane, and ambitious Tony Montana.Great movie I LOVE IT.
Rating: Summary: Teaching the World Review: Scarface is a movie full of violence and narcotraffic but also full of lessons to teach the world. One of them is that money and power is not enough for someone to succeed. There must be passion, reason to live and entusiam, that's what living is all about, being able to give your best to others around you!The movie shows how immigrants try to succeed in a completely different country full of bureaucratic matters. For example immigrants are not able to get really good jobs because they don't have employment authorization therefore they have to get basic job such as cleaning, chef and this time of things, when they get tired of it they enter into the world of drug dealings and assassin, that's exactly what Scarface shows us. The ambition of a better life can cost your life. The production of the movie was good, although certain parts were too obscene. All the main caracter developed their parts very well. The sound effects were well placed and I believe that it would be good for others to watch it as long as they get the full meaning out of it.
