Summary: Bravo, Julia and Mel CAN act!
Review: I never thought I'd ever see these two actually act. I mean did they get paid good or what? Julia, like Mel has a history of same-old, same-old movie making. Prior to 'Conspiracy Theory' both Julia and Mel had made a career of mediocre movies...with the possible exceptions of Mel's 'Mad Max' flicks, except they got pretty formula after number one. Up till now, Mel's forever stuck in the 'Lethal Weapon' mode and Julia had been stuck in the 'Best Friend's Wedding and Notting Hill' mode. The long-term effect of all this mediocrity has been Julia's turning into a human stick figure...which just accentuates her huge mouth and liver-like lips. With Mel, the effect has been to make his up till recently charming Aussie accent to fade away. He now sounds like a farmer from Iowa. But this movie vindicates them both. Never have I seen Julia actually 'act' before and Mel, my god I almost died when he didn't get the Academy Award for 'Actor showing most promise' in a starring role. I theorize maybe that strategically putting Patrick Stewart in the movie as the corrupted Government Bad Guy acutally cowed Julia and Mel into earning their pay. Patrick was, after all, the only one with a B.A. in acting from an accredited acting school in Britain...where it all began...so that paid off. Oh, the plot was okay, and the action was so-so. But, oh, I am just so happy that in my lifetime I got to see them both act...and together in a single movie.

Summary: Superb Entertainment.
Review: Looking for a massively entertaining thriller to watch on a Friday or Saturday night? If so,look no further. This film has it all:romance, action, suspense, romance, and comedy (which are all blended beautifully). The plot concerns a paranoid New York City cab driver named Jerry Fletcher (Mel Gibson) who realizes that one of his conspiracy theories is true and an organization is out to get him. One of the things that makes Mel Gibson's performance so powerhouse is that Mel is a real-life conspiracy theorist. Another piece of info,Patrick Stewart's character,Dr. Jonas, was inspired by the Canadian psychologist Ewen Cameron, who did MK-ULTRA experiments on his patients.

Summary: Conspiracy Theory
Review: Super-action star Mel Gibson and well-known actress Julia Roberts star in an electrifying film from Warner Bros. and director Richard Donner. New York cab driver Jerry Fletcher (Gibson), an insane conspiracy-believer for years, has his worst nightmare and his long-time prediction come terrifyingly true when a conspiracy is discovered, in the middle of it all Jonas Fink (Patrick Stewart). This film is not only a suspenseful and action-packed adventure but a hilarious hit with unintended romance. Produced by Joel Silver (Lethal Weapon saga, Die Hard saga, The Last Boy Scout, Executive Decision).

Summary: Fantastic film
Review: Conspiracy Theory is a terrific film. Its drama a powerful, yet it manages to have very funny segments. For the funny parts, thereare numerous examples. For example, (I'm trying to not give anything away, so this isn't gonna seem like a big deal, but...) when Jerry is wheeling around in a wheelchair, screaming "Now he nose! Know he nose!" Plot twists are unexpected, but they make perfect sense. At the moment between the next to last scene and the last scene(again, it's tough to give useful information, and not ruin the plot)you will find yourself holding your breath, and time will slow down for you. It is a bit of a complex film. I can't say it enough, this film is fun, and isn't hard to understand. I recommend this film unconditionally, 5 *s isn't even enough, this would need a few million stars to adaquately rank it. Oh, by the way,I don't even like Patric Stewart, but he was terrific as Jonas. Also, remmember that the MK technology refered to repeatedly in the film, is REAL.There WERE a series of projects undertaken by the CIA (and later by semi-rogue segments thereof) like MK-ULTRA, MK-DELTA and MK-SEARCH, so don't write this film off as being "unrealistic" because it is entirely realistic.Oh, if you compare this movie to similar ones, like the Parallax View and the Manchurian Candidate, there is no competition. Manchurian Candidate was good, but lacked real people that you grew attached to beyond the most superficial of levels, and Paralax View is a bit too unrealistic, I mean, this group set up a really complicated project, because somebody MIGHT do what they wanted, you know, I mean they didn't really take any measures to make sure the protagonist did what they wanted after initially setting him up! Anyway, know that I liked both of these films, yet Conspiracy Theory was immeasurably better.

Summary: Great Movie
Review: Conspiracy Theory is a great movie. It is one of Julia Roberts's best acting jobs. Mel Gibson is great. The opening credits are hilarious. Definitely watch this movie. You won't regret it.

Summary: " One you may have missed, but shouldn't..."
Review: I am a little unsure why this film didn't receive higher critical acclaim. I found it to be excellent. Mel Gibson's character is introduced to you as a bit of a mystery, but it is quite obvious that he has some ploblems. Extreme paranoia and stalker tendencies being a few of them. Julia Roberts is with the justice department, and is the object of his affection. The story as it unfolds reveals more and more of Jerry's (Mel's) past, as the dark side of government forces start to hunt him down. I won't reveal too much of the plot because it really would spoil it. The movie has an excellent cast, just the right tone, an intriguing plot and a surprise ending that fits this unusual film perfectly. I am not a huge Mel Gibson fan, ( I need to say this to give credence to my opinion) but he deserved an Oscar nod for pulling off this very difficult performance so believably.

Summary: starring the OTHER Mel Gibson...
Review: I am at a loss to explain why Mel Gibson, an excellent actor in the right role (Braveheart, Mad Max) continues to do this goofy, phony self-concious acting, made infamous by his Lethal Weapon series. All I can think of is, 'That must be one heck of a mortgage Mel...'

Summary: Great stars, action, characters
Review: The critics panned this because of action/thriller cliches. I don't watch many action movies, so this wasn't cliche to me. I loved the characters and their chemistry. It's just goofy enough to be fun and not too serious. Great viewing when you just want to get away from it all!

Summary: Fantastic In Every Way
Review: 1. The story is unique, exciting, and well-constructed. You don't know whether Jerry Fletcher (Gibson) is really a kook, psycho, or all of the above until the very end. It is an inspired moment when we finally find out. True 'suprise endings' are rarely well-done in Hollywood, (not since THE STING), and this one rocks. 2. Mel Gibson's acting amazes me again. I was never a Gibson fan until TEQUILA SUNRISE, when Mel dropped his Aussie accent and impressed many. Then, BRAVEHEART, became my all-time fav (what a great story of courage, etc.) 3. The unlikely romance between Jerry and Alice is breathtaking. That a total loser like Jerry can overcome himself and win the heart of this woman inspires us all. You will cry at the end. 4. Finally, the production and SFX will impress even the most jaded moviegoer. It is peculiar how fast we became bored with gigantic SFX and CGI technology, but these action sequences are really well done with a flair that relies on ingenuity rather than just throwing money at the audience.

Summary: A fun exciting movie with a nice surprise ending...
Review: A fun exciting movie with a nice surprise ending just short of Sixth Sense and Usual Suspects endings.

Background:

I am a 24 year old male engineering and computer science student living in SC. I do have a large humanities background.

Overview:

I have seen this movie twice now. The first time was at the movies and it was one of the best movies I have ever seen. The second time was on HBO and I don't know if it was because I have already seen it, or if this is a movie that needs the big screen to show it off. It is not as amazing as Titanic, or Saving Private Ryan or anything but the interrogation scenes are just hysterical at the theater and are just hilarious at home.

Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts were great together. I even enjoyed watching the relationship develop as they began to trust each other. I think the casting of the villain was great too, even though I will always think of him as Captain Picard from Star Trek.

The action-adventure elements were outstanding. I loved the interrogation and the apartment scenes. The hospital escape episode is really good also. You will love watching Mel outsmart the spooks time and time again...

I enjoyed seeing who was really who, and learning what was really going on. It is not the best movie as far as this goes but it was still good.

Thanks.
