Summary: Magnificent!
Review: Marvelously done movie. Leonardo Di Caprio was perfect for this part. I don't know what he's like personally, I don't care, but acting he does very well. This movie has a great story. Keeps a good pace. Great casting, so many talented actors and actresses in the same show. An innocent man locked in an iron mask not knowing why. And the valliant musketeers help him attempt to reclaim his identity. I own this video and have yet to watch it on dvd and read the book. Beautiful scenery. Romance, good action, comedy and very entertaining. D'Artagnan's my favorite character. Not one bad thing I could say about this one. Two thumbs...way up!

Summary: Why Di Caprio?..........
Review: I really enjoyed watching four excellent actors but, ý hated to see Leo with these actors. Why God why, did they give Di Caprio an opportunity to be on the same movie with these actors? I think i'll never get it... See the movie, if you even hate Di Caprio it's a real classic a must see. And even Leo acted well in that one. Don'tmiss it.

Review: it is a pity that hollywood does not like to stick to the books when they make these movies. there is a reason the three musketeers etc are popular as books and this is often lost on filmmakers. the film it's self is very watchable. some of the actors do a very good job of their roles and do make it worth the watch. the clothes are amazing and very impressive to look at. there is a massive lack of any sort of decent swordplay which is a pity. if you like musketeer films then you will find things to enjoy in it, also if you are a leo fan you will find it an enjoyable watch. however it just keeps falling short of greatness.

Summary: Underrated Movie a Pleasant Surprise
Review: The only reason I rented this video is because the new releases I wanted to see were checked out. To begin with, I'm not a big fan of period pieces featuring performers speaking in an accent appropriate for their role. Even if the performer masters a particular dialect, I still find it a distracting affectation. Also, a little of one accent goes a long way, especially if you're not too fond of a particular accent; I like a french accent well enough, but am still glad the whole cast didn't speak in one. I found it refreshing that the performers in this film weren't required to speak in a foreign accent, or more precisely, an accent foreign to them. I don't think it took anything away from their characters' authenticity; all the actors were very convincing, even moreso, without an affected accent.Since I'm not a big fan of swashbucking, action type movies or romantic movies, I wasn't attracted to the subject matter of this movie, nor to Leonardo DiCaprio's face on the jacket (although I'm not on the Leonardo-bashing bandwagon; I don't think he deserves all the bashing he gets). I hadn't even heard of Gabriel Byrne or the supporting actresses, but had seen Malkovich, Irons and Depardieu enough to know there would be quality acting in this film. So, having grown bored with browsing, I rented it, having no idea that I was in for such a pleasant surprise which would bring about a few first time experiences for me. My first "first" was that I wanted to see it again - and again & again! I don't ususally want to see a movie again (especially within a short period of time), but this movie more than just impressed me, it enchanted me. I thought every performer in it, even those with bit parts, was outstanding -- yes, including Leonardo DiCaprio. Although he lacks the special magic that Gabriel Byrne, John Malkovich and Jeremy Irons bring to a performance, Leonardo DiCaprio still handled his dual role well by effectively conveying the differences in his characters - not only in tone & affect, but by the way he could change his eyes from the "sad puppy" eyes of Phillipe to the cold, steely eyes of Louis. I also found the story interesting (not having read the book first, I wasn't thrown off by the affair) and thought the scenery, costumes, makeup and hair was great (except for D'Artagnon's hair, severely parted way over to the side for some reason, which was a very unflattering style for him). The music was so appropriate and moving that I even bought the soundtrack, which is also something I've never done as a result of seeing a movie. And, another first: In all my years, I've never been as captivated, not only by a character (D'Artagnon), but by an actor as I am with Gabriel Byrne. Seeing him for the first time in this movie has prompted me to see more of his work, and I've come to realize that there's something in him, not just his characters, that touches my very soul. I never expected a video I halfheartedly rented one evening to be one of the best movies I've seen in my life. I wonder why "Titanic" got 11 awards while the people involved with this film didn't get nearly the credit they deserve?

Summary: BRIEF COMMENT, AND SOME TRIVIA
Review: The plusses and minuses in the movie have been covered by other reviewers, so I will only add two comments and some trivia: First, Gerard Depadieu is a real hoot, though I wonder why he looks skinnier here than he did in "Cyrano". Second, this is one of those movies that deserves wide-screen treatment, and I was disappointed that I could not find a wide-screen videotape. I mean, who wants to watch the two-and-a-half musketeers charging? Trivia: This older Athos is played by John Malkavich, a role that was played by Jose Ferrer in "The Fifth Musketeer." Malkavich has since played another character previously played by Ferrer in a French-Historical movie: In "The Messenger: the Story of Joan of Arc" Malkavich plays the Dauphin, a role previously played by Ferrer in "Joan of Arc" with Ingrid Bergman.

Summary: Love those Musketeers
Review: DiCaprio was adequate, but I really enjoyed d'Atargnan, Porthos, Aramis, and Athos (in that order). Athos could have acted a little more European. Favorite scenes: The charge at the end ("if WE must die ...") and d'Artagnan hurling his sword at the would-be assassin toward the beginning.

Review: hey, leonardo! although you may not be the first pick off-screen, in this film you capture two characters-twin brothers-magically, one defiant and cruel, one gentle and caring. love, suicide, murder, and action all rolled into one-not to mention it doesn't stick to the book too closely, making it suprising for everyone. a real tear-jerking adventure.

Summary: One of the worst films I have ever seen...
Review: Well, I just tried to watch this film on TV but I couldn't make it all the way through. This is one of the worst films I have seen in years -- I found myself unintenionally laughing and cringing throughout. Malkovich, Irons, Byrne, and perhaps Depardieu should be ashamed for taking part in such a lemon of a movie. Di Caprio is the worst part of course as he is totally miscast as the King. In all, the entire film is a highly melodramatized piece of rubbish that should be avoided at all costs.

Summary: I expected a lot less; got a lot more
Review: Although I loved Three Musketeers (1993, with Oliver Platt, Chris O'Donnell, and Tim Curry), and it's probably my favorite movie of all time, I didn't go and see this one for one or two obvious reasons: it was a sequel, and Leonardo Dicaprio starred in it. Now, I didn't really mind him in Titanic, but I thought he had gotten that role, and this one, by being a "pretty boy". Several people would die if they heard me say that, but I did think that was true. Anyway, a friend of mine was going to sleep over at my house one weekend, and we both had some cash we wanted to use. So we rented a couple of movies, and solely based on the aforementioned favorite movie (and maybe on a really good Dru Hill video), I picked this one. We ended up watching it after midnight, but we were able to stay up and watch the whole thing. And it was a lot better than I thought it would be. I was especially suprised with Dicaprio. He play such different characters, and managed to get me to love one and hate the other. It was a lot better thatn I would have given him credit for. The writing was very good; all those litte twists that had such major consequences. The only things I didn't like were some of the inconsistencies from Musketeers to Iron Mask, and the fact that John Malkovich (he is a good actor, but I just didn't like this) sort of acted on one level; he didn't seem to change his tone at all through the movie. This really was a great movie; I know that cause now I want to read the book and watch Musketeers and Iron Mask back-to-back. :o)

Summary: Jeremy Irons is awesome, but DiCaprio...ick
Review: I just saw this movie a few days ago, and I still have a lingering bad taste in my mouth from it. It's all right to veer away from the original book's plot, but I can only take so much. The twist at the end was just too much to stomach. DiCaprio was a horrible casting choice, sounding very much like a 20th century brat rather than a spoiled French king. He was better as Phillipe...I guess he just doesn't play royalty well at all. The only glimmer in this movie were the familiar old Muskateers, Jeremy Irons in particular. He's always brilliant, so I tacked on one more star than I wanted to, just for him. DiCaprio may pull in an audience, but it's the Muskateers the put out a quality performance. Too bad this movie was such a waste of their talent.
